Caravan Off Road Adventure | Redbank Gorge, Gosse Bluff and Palm Valley | Episode 24

- We continue to discover the amazing places you can visit being able to take our caravan off road. In this episode, we complete the western section of the West Macdonnell Ranges, NT.
After exploring the picturesque Glen Helen and Redbank gorges we continue on to find a free camp. After pulling into the awe-inspiring Tylers Pass lookout, we decided that would make a great overnight stop, with tomorrows adventure in the distance, Gosse Bluff.
The next morning we set off to explore this incredible and ancient landform, the remnants of a meteorite strike millions of years ago. After hiking to the lookout and we're back in the car and making tracks to Palm Valley in the Finke Gorge National Park.
After leaving the black-top just outside Hermannsberg we air down and enjoy this incredible 4wd track into the campsite. Nothing too challenging for the caravan as we work our way through this stunning scenery.
We were just getting started though, and there's plenty more off road action to come!

Love the morning drone shots over Tyler's Lookout Cant believe you had it all to yourselves.
Us too! It was an incredible overnight stop to have to ourselves.
I am just rewatching these west mac episodes, researching our easter trip :D Thanks for such a great resourse legends!!!!!
Hope you enjoy!
What a great few days you have coming up. Palm Valley is on my top list in both beauty and memories. I've been there twice and the first time it was to watch an eclipse of the moon. Laying on our swags on the ground looking up at the full moon as it slowly went black will be a memory I will never forget. I hope that you guys have many special memories, for there at Palm Valley and on your trip. You are right, your down to earth and aren't afraid to take your van with you for your experiences. I so love the banter between you both, I get a good laugh along with the story. :) Well onto the next episode.
That's so good to hear Paul, thanks for the sub and thanks for your kind feedback!
Honestly,Your family is Inspirational,Travel safe,and God bless.
Thank you so much!
You guys are always real but also I think you connect because your set up is more realistic and achievable. Yes you have a Zone, but you are pulling with a Ute like most of us have! We all watch as we wait, plan our own trips without having any expectations of a Modified 200’s, F250’s etc, which are just a fairy tale land or Lotto win for most!! ✌🏼
Thanks Wayne, we appreciate that. Everyone does it differently but you can do it on just about any budget.
I treat your vids like a special bag of lollies that I try make last, for as long as possible! Sometimes I delay watching just cause I can, with anticipation building! So enjoy and so happy for your efforts. My google maps has a lot of green flags thanks to you in Sth Aus and Nt, again thanks folks👏👏💫💫
Oh thank you! That's so nice to hear. Glad you're enjoying it. 👍
Awesome work ... really enjoying your episodes. It is great that you are using softer background music as it blends in well and makes viewing very enjoyable ... nothing worse then loud fast bass/dance music that loads of others have been doing. Keep doing your thing and keep them coming .
Thank you very much!
We watch a lot of this style of show and you guys are the best. Keep it up. We love it.
That's so great to hear thanks, Graham.
Enjoy seeing other people's pleasure in some of the places we visited 25 years ago and look forward to seeing them again in the next couple of years, it is a magic country we live in.
It sure is, Peter. Glad you enjoyed it.
Lovely scenery...
Thanks!
You are doing an awesome job the filming around Tyler Pass and Gosses Bluff was great. In May this year we camped in the gravel pit between Tyler Pass and the Gosses Bluff turnoff, we had the company of camels overnight.
Thanks Peter, it's a pretty awesome part of the country and quite unexpected. 👍
Sundowner's with Simon how quick was that I reckon you should even just once a month. Both of you are fantastic and like you said I sit watch and chill out thankyou
Thanks, Allan. Glad you're enjoying it mate.
Love your Humour 🤗🤗🤗

Sundowners with Simon. Yep I reckon that would work😄
Another great video. Let loose with Liz🤣.
Thanks guys for doin it real. Cheers 🍻
Our pleasure! We'll see if the new segments make a comeback 😆
Sharing the love. Love your videos.
Thanks so much
Love your work guys! You both seem incredibly down to earth and I love your little family. You are both very natural in front of the camera and Simon has a way of saying a lot of words but I find myself listening to every one! I sit here 1.5 weeks out from having our first child, and cannot wait to do what you guys are doing in the coming years. My 89 Pajero and 74 Viscount will keep us going for shorter trips, but when we do our lap both will likely get an upgrade! Keep doing what you are doing guys!! AB
Thanks, Andrew, that's really nice of you to say. Simon has never had a problem with running out of words 😆 you should see the amount that gets edited out 😉 Congrats on your baby!
Shalom Shalom Guys, great content,
Thanks, Robert 👍
Awesome guys can’t wait to get our Zone Base 053 out there
Cheers, Mark. Watch the soft sand 😆 (ours is ZB054 btw)
fabulous episode
Thank You!
Really enjoying seeing you lot do the rounds in what really is a unique way that, I'm guessing, a lot of ppl can relate too. We tried coming into Palm Valley from Hermensburg but we weren't able to do the second crossing over the Finke River as they had a lot of rain and it was too dangerous. Maybe next time. Thanks for sharing .....
Thanks, JIm. Appreciate the feedback 👍
Mate, you guys are why we watch.Natural and down to earth .I just enjoy chilling out and watching and also like your choice of music. We're all learning with you.Funnily enough todays Pat Callinan episode was the same places before watching you guys.
Cheers, Michael. Appreciate that. Glad you're enjoying the videos. Obviously Pat copied us 😆
Enjoy the natural edge and freshness you bring to your content, keep it coming.
Glenn & Sandie.
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Great videos guys.
Me and the better half are heading to the West MacDonald Rangers in July/August this year. Your content for this area now has me wishing we were already halfway through the year. All the best and safe travels.
Regards
Dave
Cheers, Dave. You'll have a great time in the West Macs, it's fantastic. If you've got time make sure you visit the East MacDonnells as well 👍
You guy's are great with your down to earth videos and you make us laugh at times which is great. Stay Safe and enjoy.😄😄😄
Always 👍🏻
🙌
Look forward to each of your posts, brings back lovely memories of our travels while in Aussie. Great times with the boys and memories that will come back to them in time. NZ based
It's our pleasure bringing it to you! Thanks for watching
Fantastic episode guys, love seeing the rangers. Love relaxing on a sunday night and dream about doing a trip with my family. Before another week at work. 👍😄😃
Thanks for watching, Wayne. Glad you're enjoying it.
Luv your content, Keep on keeping it real.
We appreciate that. Thank you
Nice job guys well done. 👍
Thanks 👍
Very down to earth and real with a touch of humour, that's what we love so much about your videos. We look forward to seeing you every Sunday. 9.9 out of 10, you'll get 10 out of 10 if you can even out the volume of the music and your voices.
Thanks so much Paul. We're working on it! Let me know when we get to a 10/10 😆
Loving reliving the West Macdonnell Ranges; we did the loop (including Mereeni Loop) back in 2012 and it is one of our highlights. When you mentioned Roma Gorge I had a feeling it was the one that we skipped too... So I went back and checked my photos, and sure enough.... It was on our itinerary, but I think we were just all gorged out (I know... how can you get gorged out!! lol), and had the Mereeni Loop out to Kings Canyon to get done that day. Anyway, definitely have Roma Gorge on the list for next time. Cos there will be a next time!!! We are planning a round Australia trip in a hybrid van in the next few years once we retire.
Just loving watching your trip, giving me lots of ideas and also taking in all the useful tips. Happy travels. :) Kerryn
Thanks for sharing, Kerryn. It's a favourite of ours as well. We also need to return one day as we've got some unfinished business!
Doing good work - keep it up, thanks
Thanks, will do!
Great vid guys. Love your humour. We have done that area and you are right it’s just amazing red rock out each window. When we did Goose Bluff it was very dry and there were signs up warning about bees at the taps. We had lunch there in our camping trailer and our dish cloth got covered in bees. We had to seek refuge in the front of the ute to eat our lunch. Then afterwards shoo away the “Killer Bees” as we called them and quickly pack up the kitchen. Every time we think of that area we thing about our near death experience with the “Killer Bees” 😂
😆 What a great story. It's amazing how different your experience of a place can be
Doing a great job so far guys liking it
Cheers, Gary 👍
We were at Palm Valley in August 2021. It looks like you camped in the same site as us. Love watching your videos as we are now reliving our trip.
Haha, there you go! Thanks for the feedback 👍
Great series. Very relaxed and feel like we are there with you. We did the kings creek camp on the way to alice springs back in sept 2021. Great experience and we have a similar caravan in design to yours. Your series takes us back to our trip with good memories. The time there is gold. We should have done it when the kids were young. Will have to drag the grand kids instead next time. Keep the episodes coming. Love the relaxed style you both have on camera.
Great to hear! Thanks for watching
Love all your videos and the natural and no nonsense way you present them. Love Lizzie .. such an enthusiastic and loving lady. You have a wonderful family there. Enjoy it, as we are enjoying it watching you. Thanks.
Thank you so much, John! Glad you're enjoying it.
We love your content. Love the Zone hope to see you on the road.
Cheers Tim and Trish.

Thanks guys, so good to hear you're enjoying it!
Love the NT
Yep, it's incredible. We loved it as well.
Great for putting out these fantastic videos,as the content is of value to us, as we are planning the same trip early next year. We enjoy the remote areas as much as you guys do. Thank you again.
Our pleasure, glad it was helpful! Thanks for the feedback 🍺
Nice work!
Thanks for the visit
We are loving your Videos. We really enjoy the realness. Great work Simon and Liz. 😊 We loved Palm Valley when we were there in 2004, can't wait to go back.
Thanks so much! 😊
Love it, enjoy how you present it each week. And I love the bloopers......
Cheers, Cheryl. Glad to hear it!
Once again a fantastic episode. Sundowners with Simon a definite addition to your wonderful journey.
Many thanks, Yvonne!
Another good one guys! keeping it real and just doing what you love. Beautiful scenery so thanks for taking us who can't get there, through! ching ching!
You're welcome Dan. Thanks for watching
Hi guys good stuff my goodness me haven't those spots changed since we went to those spots in 1980 when we lived in Alice. Pick our new van up at Xmas hope to be up that way in the supposed winter thanks Mark &Janelle
It's a great region to visit. Less well known but no less spectacular. Enjoy the new van.
Another great episode. Love how you appreciate nature Liz and love your down to earth way of showing how it is. Keep up the great vids!
Thanks guys! That's the plan 🙌

You guys rock - love how you guys are so chilled and keep it real 🍻👍🍻👍
Thanks, Tracey. We do our best 😉
Great video guys. You keep us in the loop. We really appreciate your input and knowledge of the spots you visit. You did well getting out of the bog. Still waiting on our off grid hybrid. Looking forward to the travelling north. 😀
Thanks, William. All part of the adventure.
Another great episode. will highly recommend your channel to a few of our mates. Love your down to earth attitude. 💖
Much appreciated, thank you.
just found this channel, love the music bro. Our family does similar stuff, enjoying the great outdoors.
Welcome aboard! Thank you.
Bloody awesome guys keep it up 👍🏻 🍻🍻🥂🥂
Cheers, David. Will do!
Enjoying the channel guys and was surprised tonight when the wife and I were surveying the Kingdom spotted your set up at overnight stop over in Geraldton. Keep up the good work.#ZN689
Thanks, Michael. You should've stopped in and said hello. We'll be back in town tomorrow morning to meet some other future Zoners if you're around and would like to say hi? Send me an email simon@thelifestylepioneers.com
Awesome episode as always guys 👍🏻👍🏻
Thank You! Glad you enjoyed it.
You got it now you have to do the new personal whinge sessions, will be a great insight to family life on the road and living in the van. Cheers.
See how we go 😆 Thanks for watching, John
Nice work keep it going
Thanks, Patrick. We're planning on it 👍
Whoops you only do it once or maybe twice 👍👍🇦🇺
It's the first for this trip, but not the last 😆
Keep cruising mate and Merry Christmas to you and your family 👍👍🇦🇺🎄
Great work as always guys, the content you put out is 👌. Look forward to every Saturday. Would love to do the big lap ourselves. For now it’s only remote touring a few weeks at a time. One day.
Thanks for the feedback! Any time in the outback is time well spent. Cheers 🍺
Awesome vid mate, love seeing the ranger (something other than 200s and y62s) getting out and about on the tracks. We have a ranger though need to update due to being over GCM & GVM if towing at big van which we hope to get in 23 when it's due! Hopefully the Next Gen Ranger has some good stats! Awesome music too!
Thanks 👍 Have you watched our video on towing weights and how we make it work with a Ranger?
@@TheLifestylePioneers yeah we did and loved it! We have already weighed our ranger and it will be over when towing because of the front and rear bar work! Will just have to upgrade when the time comes as the Ranger doesn’t owe us anything anymore!
Haha no hate from us, although the beer choice is questionable… 😂keep up the good work. Good tip about hanging on to the screws. Our Zb is due in mid jan, can’t wait. Safe travels👍
Cheers, Martin. Thanks for watching.
We loved Palm Valley. The palms are amazing and so rare to only be in that valley. Doing a great job in the ranger and Are you heading around the Meeranie loop?
Thanks Mark, we loved Palm Valley as well. We'll return to Palm Valley via the Meeranie loop. 👍
Great videos! We’re planning to do our lap when our kids are around the same age as yours so taking notes! Loving the music you’ve got, been making a playlist of them where are you finding the songs?
Awesome! Thank you! We subscribe to Epidemic sound to licence all our music for social media. There's a link in the description of our videos if you're interested in taking a look. 👍
Another great ep. 👌🏻
It's great to see a different area rather than the mainstream same-old stuff most YT's are dishing up. And I get it there are the iconic places everyone wants to see. It is just good to see different places to add to our list.
Did you record all the previous episodes before this one not really knowing the feedback? I've always wondered about the buffer needed between real-time and CZcams episodes. Is it a couple of months for you? Did you plan it this way or did it just happen this way due tour travels?
Cheers Annette
Thanks for the feedback. We love getting off the beaten track as much as we can, but like you say, sometimes you've got to visit those iconic places.
Yeah we recorded for a long time before we started editing and producing videos. This was for a few reasons but mainly that we wanted to adjust to our new lifestyle without too much pressure. It really depends on your style and workflow how much gap you need between the episodes and real-time. We'd like to reduce it a little but it's just the way it's worked out and it allows us to have some time off.
Great work guys, so real, interesting and informative. We are also heading off in a Zone RV early next year and will certainly following some of your footsteps. Can you tell us what hats you guys have, seems like a silly question but a good is hard to find. Keep up the great work.
Our pleasure! You'll have a great time in your Zone! Our hats are both Akubras, Liz's is a "Traveller" and Simon's is a "Riverina"
@@TheLifestylePioneers Thanks Heaps Guy's, hope to see you on the road one day.
Hi guys, I’ve got a Zone off road and have the same table problems. All good
Cheers Tim. Not a big deal and it hasn't happened again since despite plenty of rough roads. 👍
Hi guys. Just a question about the Ford ranger you had. I've got a bt50 (same motor). Did you use 6th gear when towing the van ? I've been told not to by the dealer. How about you. Cheers. Top vids.
No, we didn't use 6th when towing. I'm pretty sure it's in the owners manual not to.
Great Video - do you recommend the Ford Ranger ? Keen to hear more how the vehicle handles the roads on and off or what vehicle you would recommend ie 4wd or 2wd that way us watching your vids of where you have been will know what is doable in a 2wd SUV. Thanks
Thanks! I'd stick with the 4wd. It's been great. You might find this video useful where I share my thoughts on the Ranger... czcams.com/video/NoeVkjeW7VQ/video.html
Happy with the Rangers tow ability?
Yeah we are. It's comfortable and capable.
Very real and good vid but music too loud. Thank you.
Thanks Quintin. We'll look into it. It might have something to do with what device you're viewing on as only some people seem to have trouble.
Very nice footage and appreciate that you remove your Sunnie'
s when speaking to us on camera.
Eye contact makes it so much more personal, Thanks
Thanks so much!
Does "Let Loose With Liz" involve a couple of schooners?
You'd think so 😂
Who is the male singer in your intro soundtrack pls?
Hey Scott. It's Mattias Tell (Venertian Blinds)
@@TheLifestylePioneers Thankyou
