Hi!! A black ocean is when not even 1 person in the audience turns on their lightsticks for an artist, it is consider one of the most horrible things to happen to a performer in the korean industry because it actually has sort of a meaning like "I don't support you" but the background of that video is that this was done to BTS in their early days because people did not want them to succeed (you can also see that in their videoclip of we are bulletproof the eternal when the animation of a black wave is after jungkook), so armys decided from that moment on to always cheer artists with armybombs even if they are not BTS because they went through it. Somwthing very wholesome in the fandom not gonna lie
I think not only BTS but almost every artist have experienced Black Ocean atleast once in their career which is very sad, but their are always some good people who may not make any difference but their effort is everything.

Of course, many artists went through it, I was just talking in the context of that video in the compilation because I’ve seen the original on tiktok and they mentioned what happened to BTS so thats the story I’m familiar with… I’m glad that there are fans not trying to bring down other performers even if they’re not their ult.

In BTS' case it was at an award show & it was at a time when they were getting bigger as a group from a small company & i think this was after their or during their first daesang, so it was to show the disdain against the success & no particular reason. They hadn't even done something wrong.
@@DEE-305 True, groups are victims of this irrelevant stuff just because they are climbing towards success. I wanted to point out that, not only BTS but many groups went through that for various reasons.
To Waleska and Efra, black ocean is a term used when no one in the audience turns on or just show their light sticks, so it will look dark and it seems like no one support the artist that is currently on stage. It is very sad to see, but well in that clip one army bomb still waved for them. I hope this helps.
9:29 a black ocean means that nobody is turning on their lightsticks for the idols performance therefore saying that aren't supporting the performance, this can make the idols feel sad. In this particular case I think it is saying that the only lightstick you could see was a BTS army bomb when twice got their soty award

Dude. IU's concert is THE BEST. And if you go to her concert in Seoul, you're guaranteed to meet so many celebrities from top idols to top actors/actresses.
IU's encore lasts longer than her concert set list and we all love it.
BTS was making video for students who was about to appear for the most competitive exam in korea. giving them support and all, but Suga was like "exams are not important, if you fail no problem etc.." so RM had to cut him off. Suga was always like that, he never says anyone to study hard or something, he always say spent your energy and hardwork on something you love, studies are not everything in life, as he himself hasn't gone to a proper university (he is attending online college, doing masters in visual arts, i am not so sure), still he is successful. In asian countries there is extreme competition and pressure in studies, and in korea suicide rate among studies is one of the highest in the world.
i love yoongi for his mindset when it comes to academics. in highly competitive country, like south korea where students literally put their lives on the line to get great academic results, yoongi has always encouraged studying for enjoyment and not to the point of stressing yourself out. the man doesn't care about exams, but he's one of the smartest ppl ik. he knows so much of general information on things that the commoner wouldn't know and i think it's because he truly enjoys studying. when he said "exams are not important" in that video, namjoon had to cut him off cause it was supposed to be a video wishing luck to south koreans that were about to take their exams😭😭

That day both BTS and TWICE won their first daesang(grand prize) of their career...Both of them received a Black Ocean(when the people from the public turn off their lightsticks just to show that they don't support the artists on the stage)... To give context to Yoongi's comment about "exams not being so important", he meant that if you fail it's not the end of the world.
He does think studying it's important, and he goes to college (virtually), but at the same time he always tries to express that studying and going to college it's not the only option or the "correct one". That if you don't have a degree, it doesn't mean you are going to fail in life.
And it's amazing he keeps saying that knowing the extreme pressure students have to deal with in Korea, where the university you attend can sometimes define your value

The black ocean is when other fans turn off their lightstick to show they don´t support the other artist that are performing or in this case that they don't like with the fact that group won an award. The black Ocean is something that can be every artist’s worse nightmare and that can make them feel pretty bad and lose confidence. Some of the groups have gone through black Oceans several times like BTS, SNSD, Twice and Seventeen.
In that tiktok that you didn't get it, the thing that happened was that Twice won an award and got a Black Ocean by many fandoms and army were the only ones with the lightstick on supporting Twice because BTS had gone trough that a lot and they know how that feels
