Thanks for watching, yall! Do you think you would ever make bottle bricks?
No, I would not make plastic bottle bricks. In my mind, plastic should be recycled, not dug into the earth. I see your point of replacing the cob. It's not a new idea, and it works, but scrap pieces of wood would work just as fine. I really hope you are planning to cover both ends of the plastic bottles. UV light from the sun will make the exposed ends brittle in no time. But I guess you already know this. Nice video by the way. The garden is looking really promising!
I love it Great Excellent Solution to an Ever growing Need.
SUPERB 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤
@@sidekickbob7227Knock it Off... You know these 2 will cover up the ends with something whatever they want to do ❤
I wonder what the sun will do to the plastic bottles if you don't cover them. Right now they look exposed. Just a thought...
How not to rush cut glass bottles at medium speed 🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚🪚
Its getting better and better and beautiful, guys my niece in Brazil built her whole house with plastic bottles and filled them with sand, she is living in that house for almost 10 years now and she is loving it
Building codes in Brazil are way different. 😉
@@jewelssylva3738 yes it is, this kind of building is getting very popular over there, including the adobe and hiper adobe and all kind of sustainable construction, if you are interested please google it and you will see how it is
Use a few pallets as a workbench in order not to mix the cob on the ground level. Your back will appreciate it
I love that you guys are making pretty much an entire home out of trash, dirt and rocks.
Don’t forget cob
There are paper shredders that shreds plastics, staples and paper clips as well and it shreds them into little confetti. It would make your brick making so much easier and faster
It's great to see couples work together.
You guys must have tremendous patience because everything that you do requires a lot of tedious effort.
As a landscaper of 30 years I found that having a garden cart with two wheels is a whole lot easier on your back. As time goes on using a wheelbarrow with a lot of stress on your back and knees.
I'm 64 with chronic fatigue so I prefer a garden cart with four wheels...
Its getting there. Love the personal touches and the uniqueness of your materials. Anyway you know what they say "Dome wasn't built in a day". 😊
Good afternoon to my favorite Dirt Bag Couple. Great job on the shed and the bottle bricks. Definitely a great idea. Keep cool and hydrated.
Thanks! Will do!
The bottle brick stuff is very interesting. I'd like to see more stuff like that
Hi Jess and Jim, I also agree with looking after your backs when preparing the cob. I use D handled shovels as well as the long. The D handles are less strenuous to you lower back as you can’t grip any higher on the handle. I have a back problem and will use long handled shovels when unloading a trailer, to slide the extra length but don’t lift at the longest part of the handle due to the multiplier effect. I hope you get my meaning. I am enjoying these updates. Thanks for continuing to share.
Making bottle bricks in the heat of the day is a good idea. They are a great idea and time saver. That's brilliant. They look good with the end showing, another special feature of your build.
That was intense. I really like the bottle bricks period. I wish you had an easier way of grinding up the plastic and then funneling into plastic bottle. You are the most wonderful hard-working couple I've ever seen.
I love that idea, taking care of the garbage.
I try to keep as much stuff as I can but my husband gives me a hard time about it. I once made a dog house, I used, for the paper/plastic to wrap the plywood was all dog food bags
I will have him watch this video....haha
Thank you
Jessica, I get that your method of filling bottle bricks could be relaxing however, in a rush you might consider cutting the bottle in half after removing the label. Fill both Halves then slice small skits on the edge of one half press it into the the other half. Use the label to secure the two halves with a dab of superglue or hot glue. It will go together faster & less stressful in a pinch.
Glad you guys are getting some monsoon rain, here in Fountain Hills, we've had 5 minutes rain so far this summer.
Jim I hate to say it too, but I’m afraid of the sunlight hitting that plastic will get so brittle and just fly away
Love your hard work and dedication to live the lifestyle you want. Keep using your awesome imagination and creating works of art to surround you. May lught and love always fill your days.❤
Apologize? I think it was a great idea, saving the landfills, recycling at it’s best.👏👏great idea and the look is very unique. It has added an artistic dimension to your home. And I’m sure it was a bit of a relief from some of the more manly, muscle building
contributions that we’ve all seen you mastering alongside your husband. You two are proving that people can still be responsible for their own lives. 👏👏thank y’all for sharing.
That's it I'm not going to pay for a new propane refrigerator. It seems to be a common theme. Everyone I know has a broken one. 😢. I love that you're given such great information on what to do with all that plastic waste!!! Awesome.❤❤❤
I LOVE HOW MUCH YOUR CHANNEL HAS GROWN SINCE I'VE STARTED WATCHING. ❤❤❤
Jess is kicking butt on conning the inside of the dome
Wow it's looking amazing you both are such hard workers I really enjoy watching your video Rosa
Thank you so much
You can't leave the "plastic bricks" exposed to daylight or they will rot away...just like the earth bags, just a bit slower.
Get a heavy duty blender and pulverize that plastic waste rather than cutting it...save a ton of time and makes it more consistent.
Howdy Jess and Jim. Finally getting some rain. Glad to see your video again. It’s great how you used plastic bottles that way. I was wondering if you could mix the plastic with sand, but again, it would be very tedious just to fill them. Just a thought. The shed looks great. Jess, your garden looks so healthy. Jim, always working hard. Wish I was younger, I would try doing so many things differently. You guys are an inspiration and setting a good example on how to come out ahead, no matter what challenges arise. Great job. Blessings to you all.
Glad to see the rain! We've only had one good gully washer in Albuquerque this summer, so far.
This was a great episode. Loved getting to see one project to completion.
Never mind I spoke too soon. You’re already using the sand. Good job great minds think alike.❤❤❤
You two do some amazing things with mud look good thanks take care keep cobing.
Hooray for rain!
Much Respect to both of you guys for living like this Thank you ❤😊God Loves people that love the Earth that He put them on.
Excellent job Jim, thanks 😊
You work so well together, that's awesome.
Wow, thank you!
Great idea and a good use of plastic bottles as something that holds the sand in place. Love the little bird feeding her little one and cleaning the nest, the plant area is looking great nice and green. We are having a little too much rain here in the UK at the moment no watering needed most of the time but the moisture loving pest are out on the rampage. Thanks for this great video showing your progress.
Such a cute couple! Good job!
Jessica, you're a very hard worker, Jim you're a very lucky guy!! You both work hard. And I see you are Soul Mates 💓😍
Way to gut through it guys! Looks great!😊
I think the bottoms of bottle bricks may experience a quickening of plastic off-gassing & embrittlement in direct sunlight - and you may need to cob over them.
That’ s why they are usually hidden i the wall’s core, laid i the middle.
Hey guys how you guys doing hey hope everything is fine you guys have done a great job but make sure get everything done that needs to be done correctly. Mistakes but hey they make a mistake once in awhile but hey are you still doing a good job keep up the good work God bless you guys❤❤❤❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤
Jim you are one patient man:)
I think I would use a cheap crosscut shredder on the plastic. Shred the different types, then mix the right mixture. As long as the opening of the bottle is large enough, which they seem to be, a course funnel should make filling them much easier.
I think a heavy duty pulse blender after the crosscut shredder would make it much easier to pour through a funnel.
the threat of rain affecting your new cob walls is not over.......a hard down-pour will do quite a number on it. Get some overhangs over the walls and get better protection.
Thanks for the bottle brick tutorial, y'all are awesome.
Hallo!! So happy to see you guys working. Jess is so artistic. She will think of a plan how to highlight the bottles.
I really like how you guys reuse everything, my late wife and I used to do basically the same but not as good as you guys do. We are finally getting some rain to up here in Southwest Minnesota, glad you are also.
Such a great idea, wonderful way to have them be useful and not be in a landfill
😊TY for the VIDEO ❤ PEACE
Not to be a negative Nancy but those plastic water bottles are going to break down pretty quick with the IV rays of the sun. 😮 You can however cover them completely to prevent the breakdown. 😊
Plastic Bottles are a major 💰savings for me in Florida 🏖here. I Hava a Cilynder Block Home, & very little insulation in my attic; so I put about 2 feet of crushed & caped Lexan Bottles in my attic. Cut my electric bill in half. My next idea is to fill them with water & cover my roof, & berm the outer walls, in a cobb/ bottle mix. UV light will break down any plastic, yet if these bottles are shaded or have water in them they will edure. Stay cool😎 love all these ideas ! 💡 🐕🐎🐥🐦🐤
Awesome job team 👏 who would have thought that bottle bricks would be so time-consuming, great recycling tho 👍👍 nice to see the solar shed filled in 🕊❤💙
My only concern with plastic bottle bricks, is the exposed plastic would deteriorate in the light over time. Just curious if you will eventually cob over the bottles to protect them?
to fill the bottles faster with sand a kitchen funnel would make it go faster.
Yes, I believe they are going to cover all the bottles with cob.
Bottles filled with sand/soil has less insulative value than plastic filled bottles.

Says who
That’s interesting thanks
And you could make a funnel by cutting off the top 4 inches of one of the bottles …
Hi, I like your videos and the progress. An Eco wall can also benefit you by using the first 1/3 of a bottle's top halve. You cut the tops off, leaving you a cone (The cap side till the end of the first bend). Big side goes outside facing and cap side goes inside the wall, thus creating a airflow through the wall which converts hot air into cold air in summer, and in winter you just put the caps on, thus stopping the airflow. All the best wishes and keep living the Good Life!
I guess Crew is exhausted from making bottle bricks 😂💐🙏😊
The bottles are very attractive I must say.
Looks great you guys !! Keep up the amazing progress 🙌 we are also using and recycling plastic bottles but we are putting sand in our bottles before adding them 😊
I can envision a "bottle brick rig". Basically start by coming up with a shredder that will chop up the filler like confetti. Then have a hopper to put the confetti in, and a simple twist valve, like the cereal dispensers at Whole Foods. So you fill up the hopper with the plastic confetti and start filling bottles. I'll bet you could process a lot of plastic in a hurry with such a rig. The challenge is the shredder, but I'll bet someone already makes one that'll do the job.
It looks amazing. I like the look of the bottle bricks.
On behalf of the Earth, "Thank you both, for reusing/upcycling those plastics." I'm lovn the spirit!!!
One idea that might help speed the plastic bricks is to take a razor knife and cutting the top of the bottle off and stuffing the non-biodegradable plastic in them, then pop the top capped lid back on using heavy duty gorilla tape or grommet tabs. The only thing I was thinking about as far as bottle bricks solving a better use for our plastic waste is: Should we consider the chemicals contained in the different bottles? If there is a fire and the plastics melt together, would it make toxic fumes? What numbers on the recyclable plastics should be kept separate when coming up with recycle reuse methods? Ali Sly
Maybe you could plaster over the bottle bricks to keep them from deteriorating in the sun.
You guys are such hard workers! 🎉
❤️🙏🤗🙏❤️
❤ that wall looks amazing. So worth it.
For the future, Get a pvc Pipe that you can thread onto the end of each bottle, now Scale it up a couple of sizes, using couplers, to make a rudimentary, Hard funnel.
Now, you can stuff quite a bit of material into each bottle, semi rapidly, for something like 10$.
Use a stick to jam it all in there.
What a great use of plastic! Kudos!!
Would it still work if you chopped up the plastic up finer, like in a grinder and used a funnel to fill the bottles?
looks good. that's putting your time and energy where your mouth is.
Awesome 💯 job🎉🎉. Jess you rock girl 😎👍
Good job guys!!!😊🎉❤
Thank you. For my lazy way, I would flatten the flimsy bottles by wadding the air out of them, put the cap back on, then you have a plastic rock for building.
Love it keep it up as always 💘
This is awesome to see!!
🇺🇲💯✌
Collecting one plastic waste bottle bricks from ONE family per month from a whole lot of residences to build a common utility structure for the whole village would revolutionise the way we address the plastic pollution.
another brick in the wall, ALL stay safe thank you!
Hey Jim, that's a cold winter night kind of job to hide from the elements. Y'all got this.
❤ it looks great, but I keep wondering: if it's just mud and straw, and you guys get so much rain, how does the surface hold up to the rain? Won't it wear away? Or the bottle ends break down from sun exposure?
Thanks for another great video.
This was a fun video for me to sit back and lazily watch. You guys are an inspiration In many ways. Your grit and determination, your relationship with each other, your sense of humour, and your optimism.
Brilliant idea!
Looks good
Jess,great idea bottle bricks
Good job!
Looks nice
You must have a very high loam dirt there, I have heard of Adobe, Cobb , and Caliche I am guessing the difference of them all is the loam it has? Your project looks great! I think the ends of the bottles makes a great pattern. I had no idea that making the brick bottles would take so long to make my hat is off to you both!
Looks super good guys!!
Thanks for sharing 👍😀
Looks nice you guys !
Bottle bricks look awesome. I wish we could get some rain here. Maybe one day, and yes I want that slow rain.
Cut the bottle just before it starts to taper to the neck. Fill the bottle then replace the top with the neck facing inward and glue in place. It will act as a plunger and remove the restriction for filling the bottle.
Excellent work always
A good idea I saw in a UTube video I saw
Self watering pot made from Coke a Cola bottles
Wick design..
Looks like it will cut down on time watering plants
Enjoy
here in Brazil they fill the bottles with their own land, you could make a detailed video showing how you do to purify rainwater for consumption
Hi there looking great.
You guys work so hard and it's paying off. Thank you for sharing!
I use a funnel to fill my bottles, for both plastic waste and sand, saves a whole lotta time. You can make one from stiff paper or plastic , or even an aluminum can, if you don't have one in your kitchen. Jut cut out a cirlcle and roll..
Thanks for your vid 😇💟💟💟 Love and bless you guys.
it's a good way to recycle your plastic that you've accumulated. With all of the used tires in the world, people should shred them to reuse them in a useful way too.
We have excellent soft and firm plastics’ recycling facilities in France. This isn’t applicable everywhere, so check locally what use is the most environmentally friendly
Perhaps you could improve the process by using some sort of plastic grinder? Chill the plastic then grind it into confetti/pellets and then pour it into the bottle? Your earthbag home has a lot of benefits when it comes to fires as it is somewhat fire resistant, I'm not sure how the plastic would behave in a fire. I think the bottles have their benefits in putting up non residential structures quickly and I suspect that they are probably reusable.
Bottle my emotions up.
I have been talking to everyone about the lies about recycling plastic. We ship it to 3rd world countries & they still eventually end up in the rivers & oceans creating massive Islands of toxic plastic waste gathering in our oceans. 😢 😡 So if we can stuff plastic bottles full of plastic waste to bulk up cob structures, I'm all in. I'd start stuffing bottles for y'all now, except I don't have a plan for transporting them to the Arizona desert.
Jess, I love how your mind works❣️
Might be an idea to use a shredder of some sort to get smaller parts plastic to stuff in the bottles.
