  • If you are new to the statue collecting hobby, I wanted to put this information out there to help you understand the ins and outs of this hobby. There are so many things you have to learn as it's often times very overwhelming to grasp what's going on, so I wanted to put this guide together to help the new collector. These are by no means "rules", they are simply a reflection of my past experiences in the collecting hobby. In this statue chat we discuss statue companies, statue costs, statue terms, shipping, exclusive vs collectors edition, collector boxes, collectible insurance, and much more! I hope very much that this helps and inspires. Thanks for watching! Chris

    I found this to be phenomenally explained. Even better than your other one. The one thing I liked on the old one is how you had the stores actually pop up on the screen. For collectors like me, maybe expían some budget options like Diamond select or chronicle collectibles (which may be leaving business sadly).

    A word of advice...patience. I think this would be a good topic but in my experience, the date that companies say it will ship or be ready to ship always seems off. Maybe it's the type of statues I collect but always seems it takes longer. Maybe its do to shipping from overseas? I think it would be interesting to hear some thoughts and have possibly a video as to why?
    Also, with social media everyone can share their opinion on a particular piece. If you yourself like something, dont let others influence your opinion. If you enjoy it, that's all that matters!

    The #1 rule is that if you don't have the money don't buy!!! Only if you can afford! I have seen many guys who buy statues and then don't have the money to support their families...
    #2 rule is your wife!!! If she really loves you (very very very much)then she ll understand! If she has problem that you give your money to Statues (toys for her) then be ready for a War!!!! I know many guys who hide to other places their statues for this reason....
    #3 rule buy only what you really like a lot!!! Not what is《grail》or 《a must buy》. You don't care what the others think! Buy only what you love!

    Great informative video Chris. As a newer collector I appreciate it. One thing that wasn’t mentioned that I’m curious on is owning statues with light up features. I heard not to keep batteries in them too long because they leak over time and can damage the statue. What would be the point then to having a statue that lights up, but can’t display it?! But then I read an article that lithium batteries don’t leak. The Energizer Lithium Batteries even guarantee no leaks. Would you trust this? I would hate to try it out on a $1000 statue, only to find out it doesn’t work.

    I've bought into moducase, and their amazing its a bit expensive but you can buy through sideshow, and not have to go though all the hurdles with moducase, and sideshow only does one size, it will fit 1/4 scale which I believe is the largest scale that will fit... but moducase has larger and custom sizes its just more money....

    The main piece of advice I would give to a novice collector is buy whatever you like, whether It's a statue, bust, action figure, Funko Pop, figurine etc, 'yours' is the only opinion that matters. Don't buy into the hype that surrounds certain pieces, don't fall into the 'fear of missing out' trap and most importantly, please don't get into any debt, collecting is supposed to be fun, not detrimental to your life! As far as displaying your collection look into getting a craftsman to build a bespoke system or build your own if you have the skills.
    Chris, sorry but your definition of maquette is totally inaccurate. Maquette means;
    ' a model or preliminary sketch for a larger piece of sculpture, created in order to visualise how it might look and to work out approaches and materials for how it might be made' It has absolutely nothing to do with detail, size etc of a finished/production piece. Sideshow use the term purely as a means to charge extra! The term is French and It's derived from the Italian word 'macchietta', meaning sketch. Nothing to do with 'old Hollywood' whatsoever!
