Well thought through video. Pretty much covers the most invasive aspect, but the eternal battle for most collectors with their significant other. Also consider most chooses statues over other things, which could be more important, as all addictions can be about escapism.

The Overwatch D.Va statue is so far the most expensive statue that I own. I thought that was expensive enough and there is no way I'll ever be spending thousands on these crazy expensive statues. Recently I discovered an expensive Motoko statue that was sold out almost everywhere. After hours of searching I found a place that still had it in stock and was selling it for its original price, so I pre-ordered it... for 1100 euro... And now I'm considering pre-ordering the Prime 1 Gally statue. And I'm salty that I missed out on the Prime 1 2B statue. My mindset basically just did a complete 180 in how I see these expensive statues, completely out of the blue.
Man these things are dangerous. One moment you're just casually browsing the web, then suddenly you see a statue or figurine that you really want and before you know it your money goes yeeeeeet.
How's the hobby going. I bought that NieR:Automata 1/4 diorama from prime 1 studios around a year ago and have had it for a while and it's an amazing work of art.
I also have the creation studios A2. (The more recent one)
And I also have pre ordered the prime 1 studios 1/3 2B deluxe.
Statue collecting is expensive but I'm only a fan of NieR:Automata and the series in general so at least my spending is locked to 1 franchise.

Soooo addictive... I've been collecting mostly small gaming statues for the past 5 years and until I started collecting 1/4 scale last year.. I couldn't stop.. Like almost everyday I look at statue photos and stuff on the Internet.. Rabbit hole has been dug and its deeeeeeep

Ive got more PO’s going then statues that I own. Said I was sticking to batman only...then I just seen queens studio wonderwoman 1/4, then J.L Blacksuit Superman 1/4 then...ahh you know the story. Shipping fees gotta be #1... I wouldn't mind paying 1k or 2k for the actual piece but 600 for transporting it is a tough pill to swallow.

I’ve had over 2000 transactions on eBay as both a seller and a buyer (two accounts). I’m not a Power Seller, just a personal collector. Have bought and sold tons of statues myself (Bowen statues and Horizon Kit models were the rave then). Been at it since 2001. You just to be real good as to whom to buy from...and if I get a buyer with bad feedback, I cancel the transaction and place him on my Block Bidders/Buyers List. I only had a couple of negative transactions and one really nasty one in 19 years of doing business there. I’ll take those odds any day.

I'm only new to collecting and told myself I wouldn't spend more than $1000 on a statue regardless of what it was.
Today I purchased the 1/3 doom slayer by prime1.
My rule has been broken and now I fear of this slippery slop. Also do not regret purchasing it by any means
DAMN.. you broke that rule then pissed on it, and killed it.
everytime you break such rules, you get more reckless and lose respect for your money

i know we dont know each other but for me you are the best youtuber that exists very symphatic and likes every comment,you seem to have very fun at your hobby,i own now only 2 Statues a Sasuke Susanoo from Top Studios and Infinity Studios City Hunter Predator,back in the Years i owned Darth Vader from IS Legacy Replica and Leatherface Premium Format and Freddy and Jason,Chucky Lifesize and Annabelle Lifesize i selled them and regretted but this is collecting.

I'm not a statue collector but hope I can have one extreme batman statue, but I can relate to most of the reasons you pointed out because I'm addictive to Hot Toys, I'm already thinking in expand my collection into the living room.
You could do an educational top 10 list on best/worst/most common materials statues are made of. Sideshow lists a whole bunch of materials I’ve never even heard of (ABS, POM, Vinyl, PC, other plastics like PVC). Then you have polystone, cold cast porcelain, polyresin, fiberglass, metals like bronze or steel, mixed media of different fabrics, clay, and even freaking rubber. It would be nice to know the pros and cons of these materials, and which ones are more durable with the most longevity, since last thing you want is your statue crumbling or cracking or melting after so many years, $3000 later.
Plenty of information on the internet. But it would be interesting to hear how, say, a rubber statue compares to a polystone one, or if resin lasts longer than porcelain, or if a cotton cape wears out faster than a velvet one, or if dust collects more on certain materials, or even if paint applications fade or thin faster or look better on certain materials.
New member in your amazing YT Channel 🤩 I want to take the step to collect statues, but I am very concerned about their maintenance and especially the appearance of the paint. Is it complicated ? Have you ever experienced paint fading on your figures due to heat? Humidity? This really worries me
I haven’t. Been collecting awhile. You dust them regularly and keep out of sunlight and you’re good.

#1 is very true. I was stopping after an additional 2 pre orders done last December and then 2 more pieces just went up for PO that I had to have. But after this I can definitely stop whenever I choose to.......................

All good reason! How about how custom statue can be a hit or miss to your collection or why do custom statue cost so much. I have seen many customs with great digital concept design but the final product doesn't come close to it's digital design.
It's all about the print on the proto. I've seen the more successful custom makers pay to have it redone as they won't accept the sub standards quality.
I had to watch this video again because my spending is starting to get out of control.

Luckly I haven't found my items that would be my grail. Either they haven't been made yet or haven't seen them yet, lol.
I've slowed down quite a bit, I tried to stop but I 'm really selective now.
I think I mentioned this on a previous video recently, besides the money, space is an issue for me. Display space. I currently have that problem with just some 7" NECA & Diamond Selects (movie figures like John Wick and Ash Williams), Gundam, etc.

Well, the main problem is keeping focus and choosing a theme for your collection. If you don’t do that, the rabbit hole will keep on growing until is completely out of control. Also I have to give bonus points for the K’s Choice reference!

Search Amazon. Lots of options. A non-motorized 18" is about $20 that can hold 50 lbs. Then you can get more fancy with bigger, automated, more weight capactiy, etc.

Greetings Mr.X! Yeah, statue collecting is addictive and space is a huge issue, but also one other reason is keeping or trying to keep the statues free of dust. Fortunately, I don't have a huge issue with dust, but it is a concern. I would ask you, since you have waaay more statues than me is how do you keep your collection clean? Have a good day Mr. X.
As I redo displays (which is often) I dust. I also live in an area where it's not as bad and have air filtrations sytems.
I have one eBay alert on and that is a statue I would pay 2-3x the money above retail. Sadly. Love these top 10s from your channel. It's like crack.
That’s why I collect Mezcos. 300-1500.00 every so often or in reality every month, is kinda nuts.

No. I recommend staying away from those as they are 99% of the time recasts

Yep. The Cenobytes from the Hellraiser movie invented this hobby. I would add to be sure you get the statue's dimensions and see that you're not being given the artbox or shipping container dimensions.

I still can't decide if I want to buy the venom vs spiderman marquette $700 piece on sideshow. I really like venom, and I like the overall look of this piece, but some channels have been skeptical about it. I've also never bought a collectible yet of that price range.
For me it was a pass as I didn't dig the pose. I would say this, wait till you see some in hand. There will be some in stock for sure.
When I started (about 30 years ago) there was a bare handful of companies/sculptors I would buy from. Even with my experience your ideas are l.

I totally agree. I wonder why its so addictive. I go through cycles of thinking I dont need statues. Then I'm scrolling through new releases and I've 3 new PO's. The thought of getting rid of my collection is also like cutting off a limb. Why is this? Mental.
No. 1: It’s ADDICTIVE
You also lose interest once your PO hits the 1-2 year mark. By years 3-5 you want your money back. Beyond that, you simply accept defeat.

I don’t have problems with multiple lines as I only collect Alien and Predator. All that other stuff, superheroes, animé, etc, don’t really interest me. Mind you, I appreciate watching other people’s different stuff. Having said that, even in my limited line of interest, my Alien/Predator collection is non-stop. I keep wanting more. But aside from that, chipped, partially broken statues, especially from the secondary market, does not bother me as long as the seller is honest and describes all the imperfections. My main pet peeve is lack of free space for both statues and the damn boxes...especially those damn boxes. My basement is full of boxes...can hardly walk through there. But unfortunately, you have to keep them in case you want to sell them later...as that styrofoam is a must if you want to avoid breakage during shipping. And I have a rather small man-cave. Imagine if I had Mr X’s numbers, I’d go insane.
Hi Mr X . Can you give me some advise on what display case to get for the upcoming predator big game jungle hunter statue? It’s 27” tall and want it to be lit. I’d like it to be displayed at eye height so could be placed on a unit or perhaps there’s a large display case that’s got two levels to it? Was thinking of displaying the statue at eye level and below it some predator memorabilia like the steelbooks, comic etc. Any advice would be great !!! 👍🏼

Statue collecting works best when you exercise discernment! Also, space isn't an issue if you don't buy those massive statues, quite frankly they're ridiculous. Remember, collectibles don't have to be high end to be good, there's a load of great pieces at reasonable prices that are just as good, if not better than those mega bucks statues.
I received a Sweet Tooth one from Twisted Metal. Arrived with broken fingers, since I never had one like it before I was floored by how brittle it is and a little mad. (Still looking into ether a refund or a replacement).
I won't be getting any future statues, I move around too much and prefer things of more durability for my travels and relocations...So not for me. lol
It is better that not many people can afford it.. This way it stays unique and you see a lot of different lines
Yeah collecting sucks and it doesn't matter what it is. Do you have to complete the whole line, do you only buy the things you like even if they don't make sense? Buying what makes you happy should be key but sometimes that key just keeps turning and turning and turning its hard to stop lol.
