@@quinn9667 because Opaline lied and exaggerated about Twilight’s reasoning to get rid of the magic (to take it for herself), so it would only follow that she exaggerated and lied about other events from the past.
Vinyl Scratch not talking is partially because there was such a popular VA in the fandom for the character, that they were pretty much the only voice the fandom would accept for her, so instead they kept Vinyl silent. Vinyl and Octavia being roommates is directly from the fandom though, as is Lyra and Bonbon's relationship, as well as Derpy and Doc.
Yup. Exactly this. I believe there was a character (my brain says Derpy/Ditzy but I'm not sure) that when they spoke the first time, people were upset it didn't sound EXACTLY like the fandom VA, so it was a smart move. They did keep the Fandom British Octavia though (which is funnier to me now after hearing my friend Scribbler play her more often than Ellie did XD)
Although during a podcast where we read out the offical MLP books, Vinyl does have lines (although she texts them to people) I gave her a voice like GLaDOS cause I thought it'd be funny and I can no way sound like Nowacking did XD

Doctor Whooves and Assistant is super nostalgic, just like all the Lyra Bon and Octavia x Vinyl. I'm pretty sure there are some fan fic videos with millions of views lol, like the one where Vinyl and Octavia are on an island, so the fan content absolutely couldn't be ignored.

That's why I love watching reacters :) There's always something that I might have missed and someone else didn't. Or someone can have a totally different perspective on the episode that I would never thought of, and watching his or her reaction allows me to see it from that perspective too. Or sometimes change my mind about the episode.

Basically, the 100th episode was a big love letter to the fandom. Because the fandom were the ones that basically took a lot of the background characters and added a lot of personality to them.
Like Derpy and the stallion friend she has because of his design he looked very similar to a pony version of David Tennant doctor.
The fandom made stories of Doctor Hooves and his traveling companion Derpy.
That’s why he kept talking about traveling through time a lot.
Lyra heartstrings, was seeing all the time in the background sitting up, like a person on the benches alongside Bonbon,
So fanart and fanfiction basically had the two together, and because of the way that Lyra was sitting, the fandom, gave her the quirk of being very interested in the mythical creatures, known as humans,
Especially in their hands.
And the funny thing is in EQG the fandom swapped it. And the human version of Lyra Hartspring is interested in unicorns.

"Slice of Life" is considered to be one of season 5's most memorable episodes to this day! It was such a treat that the writers decided to give the shows background characters their own focused episode, And while everything the Mane 6 did was happening in the background for once.
All of the hijinks and shenanigans of this episode were just the best! In fact it was after this episode that people in the fandom started getting suspicions about Lyra and Bon Bon actually being a couple rather than just being best friends. Hell even I thought so too. lol
And it was also nice to hear Derpy talk again and her interactions with Doctor Hooves were some of my favorite parts of the episode, Along with Octavia and Vinyl Scratch AKA DJ Pon3!
Anyway, I loved that the episode ended with Cranky and Matilda getting married!
As for "Princess Spike" it's considered to be yet another one of Spike's worst episodes of the entire FIM series, I mean I for one found at least some of the stuff that Spike did to be understandable. Because at first he was only trying to help since Twilight really needed some sleep, But then he went from doing that to taking advantage of Twilight's princess status in order to get free stuff.
And in the end Spike's actions caused a total mess, But at least he learned his lesson.

Slice of Life! The 100th episode I like to call “The Chrysanthemum of the Fandom.” Whether you notice it or not Scoots, Hasbro will deny they looked into the fandom. But the many references involving these minor or side characters speaks volumes that they utilized them here!

Some shows are forced to be more subtle about their LGBT couples because the execs want to play it safe. I don't know if you've noticed, but Hilda has one as well. Here this kind of doubles as social commentary as well, since they put a lot of emphasis on the "best friend" thing to make sure you don't miss it, and the whole episode is about a heterosexual wedding.
Anyway, episode 100 is the "love letter to the fandom" (episode 200 is a love letter to the voice actors, but we'll get to that). It includes so many little ideas and memes and fanfics that became popular among the fans over the years. Like, Steven Magnet's name was just a random thing that CZcams auto captions came up with when the first episode was uploaded here, and everyone just started calling him that, and now they made it canon. There's some stuff they put in there that isn't even kid safe, like the "I cooked them up and ate them" line. They just had to get it all out of their system. If you want, you can look up this episode on TV Tropes and see the full list of all the references.

Giant Gay Serpent had a point, though! Everypony dropping their lives and putting on stuffy clothing to watch two donkeys get hitched, the wedding BETTER be worth the trip. Especially with the princesses coming, too. I know the wedding day is supposed to be about the couple, but the couple has a responsibility to make it worth the trip for those who have to travel. Plane tickets aren't cheap, after all. And on top of that the couple expects presents and money? Then the wedding IS everything.
Or you can have a more intimate wedding and not having to care so much about such stuff ;> Let's say I'm talking from experience ;)

What I consider to be a part of a fandom is to watch the show and maybe watch some fan-made stuff on it too. That way when a show does special things like the 100th episode of MLP, you'll understand the references
Slice of Life was actually a real event in its time. When the Fandom was at its peak, it was made as a love letter to the fans.
It is an okay episode on its own, but it was amazing in the moment. A real had to be there when it dropped.

Being a part of a fandom isn’t necessarily chatting with fans on forums. Most just do it by liking fanart, watching fan videos, reading fan fics/comics, or other kinds of passive support. I’d go as far as to say passive fans make up at least 50% of every fandom, if not more. Being part of a fandom is just enjoying what fellow fans create, and that support is really all that matters ^-^

My top two favorite non-Mane Six ponies are Vinyl and Octavia. I play the piano, so musician ponies are my personal favorite that relate to me.
Vinyl doesn’t speak at all, but before this episode was even created, she actually spoke only in fandom-made videos by an individual known as Nowacking. No one else can do Vinyl justice, so Hasbro made her mute.

In Spike's defense (bc kinda a Spike fan myself), while what he did was obviously wrong, we have to remember he's technically just a teen who is almost always ignored or not taken seriously. I can see how having finally somebody listening to him like that could get to his head quickly. At least he realized the mistakes he made at the end, yet still I really wished ponies would treat him with respect TwT
He's not a teen, he's a baby dragon. For me he's like a 5 to 8 years old kid. That's why I can't really blame him for his failures.
@@uralink3485 ngl i kinda wish they had like actually given him a clear canon age in the show since the fact he was born when Twilight was still a filly, yet he's still referred to as a baby dragon, yet _[season 8 spoilers warning]_ in that one episode of s8 he kinda goes through puberty (?) and he's also supposed to be a similar age to Gabby and older than the CMCs (that are also kinda inconsistent age-wise) makes the entire situation so unnecessarily complicated TwT
@@BUGFlower413 he kinda aged and literally growned when he was becoming greedy in that episode, so maybe he's just aging a lot slower than normal or at least his body because they didn't let him, although he was getting pretty big really quick, and we saw teenager dragons in that other episode where spike follows the dragons so idk.
Maybe if he grew with the other dragons they just let the younger ones have more treasures based on their habilities or let them keep the ones they find themselves and thus growing in a more natural pace.
I love that even someone who has no knowledge of the fandom and didn't even recognize Lyra can see her and Bon Bon interact for the first time and realize something is going on there lmao.

Spike did nothing wrong during the first half of episode 10, it was only when he decided to do every one of Twilight's tasks for the summit where things got out of hand.

Funny you mentioned the episode being all over the place when you did. Just moments before, when Vinyl's stereo on wheels made that big jump over a hill there was a stuffed shark laying in the road. The staff literally jumped the shark.

I agree with Scoot, if Spike keeps messing up big time for a lesson, he shouldn't show up to big events anymore. Spike is constantly called a "BABY" dragon, being only what, little less than a decade younger than Twilight, meaning he must mature a lot slower. I get that as Twilight is a fresh princess, Spike's responsibilities suddenly skyrocketed, so he has a lot to learn, but theres a point where the kingdom is a bit TOO forgiving of his mishaps. The worst part is though, since he is so young, he'd 100% take it personally if he was told to stay home, and probably would end up sneaking in to prove everyone wrong.
Someone once mentioned that Spike's lessons are always on the backs of the other Ponys, and I could never unsee that. His centric episodes always have everyone else nerfed so he gets a chance, instead of letting him show his worth in his own way. There are a few that work differently, and IMO those are big hits for me because they fit so much nicer, but in general its frustrating to see. I am in no means a Spike hater, but I just wish they had aged him up and stopped calling him a baby dragon. Once again, I understand the logic of dragon ages vs pony ages, but story wise its frustrating. Either have Spike be a baby, and do baby things (annoying but understandable), OR have spike be a teen, and have responsibilities. The mix just makes it feel weird because they put so much emphasis (that dies down in later seasons but still randomly pops up) that hes a baby, but also has...a full list of chores to do daily and is constantly thirsting over Rarity. Idk, it's always annoyed me.

How derrpy became every ones and apper is people noticed her miss alined eyes which was originally a error and they also here favorite food is muffins so the people who worked quickly chought on to this so in ever mlp episode you can find derrpy either some form of interacting whit the mane 6 or just on the back ground

But don't worry they would create the opposite episode where the song Flawless occurs where I'm sure the writers were able to complain about things people would gripe about (the one that I remember the most was someone going "Twilight was better before she got wings" which was something I saw a lot online at the time XD)
Have you not been watching the series up until this point? This entire episode is inside jokes for the fandom. Lyra and bon bon sit with each other in almost every episode. The fandom shipped them so hard that they eventually get married in the show.

Octavia and DJ Pon3. the most popular background characters of all the serie. and the relation of Lyra and Bon Bon was happening on the background all most since the star of S1. and their personality and history in this chapter was basicaly made by the Fandom.

It would take way too much time to explain all the references in "Slice of Life" but it is absolutely brilliant how they tied everything together. Lots of shows do nods to the fandom or thank the fans for watching, but this is the only instance I know of where the writers made an entire episode based on the fanbase.

Vinyl Scratch is not the character's name, as there is literally no official source that uses it. Every piece of merch that uses the name Vinyl Scratch is fan-made. The character's _actual_ name is DJ Pon-3, but apparently the fans dislike it so much that they've convinced themselves the fan name is also canon.
This is unlike Derpy Hooves, which while also made by the fans, has been officially used at least once by Hasbro. Though the current name for Derpy is Muffins, since they got a bunch of backlash for supposedly being "ableist" by naming a disabled pony Derpy. That's why all Derpy merch uses an image of a muffin in place of a name.

Episode 100, what a blast. Yeah people already covered the fan nods.. but do need to comment ath yes "Bugbear" is an actual, legit thing from folklore. Though less a concrete, specific creature and more just a general term that is kind of interchangeable with other terms like 'goblin' 'gremlin' for just a generic malicious mystical critter.
Then we get Princee Spike and..... it's a Spike episode... what more do you need to say? Though... this one kind of does even worse then average because the whole lesson is meant to be Spike was abusing his authority for his own ego.... except everything that went wrong in the end? Those were the result of things he did while carrying out exactly the duty he was explicitly given. Not a result of him abusing his authority.
I love how he keeps calling Lyra and Bonbon best friends while chat is screaming “LESBIANSS” “BEST COUPLE” “GAYS”

I feel like people forget that Spike is basically a kid if not a baby, and is a dragon which are instinctually suppose to be greedy and prideful. It doesn’t justify every bad thing he does, but it’s understandable in some cases. Makes me kinda sad to see comments saying to get rid of Spike, he isn't my favorite but he’s a special addition to the show for me. More of his flaws are in episodes centered on him and overshadows the good stuff he does.
But chat fr was making me kinda mad that episode. It was a bad Spike L episode, but chat saying to get rid of him was annoying as heck.

How’d we get to the hundredth episode already? Wow, I keep forgetting that people can now go through years of episodes in a manner of months. You’ve seen Bon Bon before, she was with Lyra in Rainbow Rocks and before that, they could be spotted together in the background of the show. The 100th episode was pure fan service. From my memory of the fandom, I’d say to participate in a fandom you’d have to consume and interact with the original media, fan created content and interact with other fans. Bronies had all of this on a massive scale, there were Brony conventions too. You’ve seen fandom content ie. Lullaby for a Princess, Moon Rises, Smile HD, etc. There’s tons of content and a lot on background characters because people took even the tiniest details of characters that could be seen in the background and made full blown theories and stories from them. Example, Lyra can be seen in the background multiple times sitting like a person and not how the ponies usually sat and from that people made theories that she was obsessed with humans and has been to the human world, example 2, Bon Bon throughout the show, whenever she spoke she had a random different voice and probably because she was a background character with no set voice actor, however people came up with the theory that it was actually because she had multiple personas and was probably a secret agent/spy, the fandom also used to call her Sweetie Drops and this episode made that canon. There were well known fan creators, people who paid attention to every detail of the show, there were general fan created popular headcanons of practically every single pony and many of those headcanons were nodded to in the hundredth episode. I feel like you should react to ‘Bronies React MLP-FiM Episode 100’ just so you could get some sort of an idea of what the fandom and some fans were like. Bronies React consisted of fandom reactors and well known fandom content creators. (I don’t know if there are any controversies about them, I hope not but there are some things that are offensive and dated).

I remember the princess spike episode making me annoyed at Spike but it was always fun to see the characters anyway. It’s always a treat to see areas outside of ponyville and seeing Twilight doing princess duties. I enjoyed the hijinks, there were some ponies with cool designs in this ep too.
Man it’s honestly funny watching the utter confusion. I was neck-deep in the fandom when this came out and I understood EVERYTHING and my sister and I were practically hyperventilating during the entire episode. So much of it is niche and fanmade and I totally get not understanding it when you only watch the show, it’s still a goofy episode tho
Yeah, you're not wrong about the fact that back then they basically couldn't have same-sex couples in cartoons. Sure nowadays practically every new cartoon has at least one canonical gay or bi character, but this was the early to mid 2010s we're talking about. This is back when Korra and Asami holding hands at the end of Legend of Korra was considered scandalous, and was basically the gayest thing seen on TV. This show was the watershed for female-led cartoons becoming popular again, and Steven Universe was the watershed for queer-representation in cartoons.

Spike in the earlier seasons pissed me off as well, a lot of people make the argument that because he’s a flawed character that makes him a good character but idk. All of the mane 6 have their own flaws as well but none of them pissed me off like spike did. I feel like spike is just straight up annoying sometimes 💀 But I think he gets better as the series goes on
Everything in that run to the church including the flashes are inside jokes to the Brony community.
