Medal of Honor: Airborne is a first-person shooter video game, developed by EA Los Angeles, and released worldwide on mobile phones in August 2007, on Microsoft Windows and Xbox 360 in September 2007, and on PlayStation 3 in November 2007. It is the 11th installment of the Medal of Honor series, and uses a modified version of Unreal Engine 3, In the game's single-player mode, players assume the role of an American paratrooper in the US 82nd Airborne Division who is airdropped with his squadrons. While in its online multiplayer mode, players can choose to fight as Allied soldiers that parachute into the battlefield, or as Axis soldiers who defend on the ground.
Unlike previous games in the series that employed a linear style of gameplay in its single-player mode, in which the start point and direction is already laid out, Airborne employs a more nonlinear gameplay style in both modes, in that players can start their game anywhere in the map that they land in and complete the majority of a mission's objectives in any order.
The game has received more favorable reviews for the PC and PlayStation 3 versions, than its Xbox 360 version. While the game was planned to have versions made for PlayStation 2, Wii, and Xbox, these were later cancelled, with the first two consoles having Medal of Honor: Vanguard as an exclusive title between them instead.

You're right, but, correct me if I'm wrong: I can't recall them being captured by an airborn assault(*), just surrendered by default as Berlin fell at ground level.
(*)Rem: which, given they were heavy AA emplacements, would have been a very unpractical way of assaulting them; it's one thing to take a B-17, with its speed and flight ceiling, up against these defenses. Quite another to fly a DC-3 in there. They would have been blown to shreds.
Which, as an aside, is why Market Garden almost worked: all the heavy AA had been withdrawn to Germany itself. The reasons Market Garden failed were: 1) there were more and better reserves in the area than intelligence had suggested. 2) it took longer for Montgomery to link up to the bridgehead than expected, because of 3) the allied command hadn't fully grasped the implications of the flexibility of the command structure within the German army, given they were often under supplied at the best of times. That only really clicked at the Battle of the Bulge, at which point it also became clear the Red Army had known about this for years and just hadn't told the allies. One of the seeds of mistrust and the cold war right there.
I don't know, I'm probably alone in finding this stuff fascinating, but there you go.

You can actually remove the scopes from the guns like the stg44, but I don’t think you can do that for the bolt-action rifles
Also, that “death tower” is actually a real thing built by the Nazis and you can actually visit many of these to this day, so it isn’t that big of an issue considering they existed in real life

Yeah, while I liked the 2010 game when it came out, after playing Airborne, it made me wish the devs stuck with the formula they established in European Assault and evolved it, the game could've been something special.
But EA being EA, they had to follow trends, even though they're completely tone-deaf and always miss the mark on what made those trends work in the first place. It's always at the expense of the games and the developers, with the execs behind the stupid decisions getting away Scot free. Hence why we ended up with the reboot being the MW2 clone that it is.

@@DinosaurFan88 heck its even before the 2010 game that MOH has already fallen from its roots. From what I remember before trying to be COD, Medal of Honor was its own thing basically it was kinda like 007 set in WW2. instead of taking part of huge battles beside a key events IE: Normandy and Market Garden. You were going behind the front line playing as a secret agent doing things from blowing up a secret Nazi bunkers, assassinating Nazi General gathering intelligent as a spy in disguise while stealthy making your way through by showing appropriate ID either stealing or killing the officer that's holding it. all that fun stuff behind the scene. I prefer MOH to be dead. EA would completely destroy a new entry by pushing hard greed crap like microtransactions or loot boxes. And likely rewrite history and openly disrespect the people who fought in the war like they did with BFV to push certain politics agendas.
No thanks, bro. I'll stick with the old games and hope one day someone makes a spiritual successor thst recaptures the magic.

I really enjoyed Airborne, to the point I'd say it's the best MoH game second only to Allied Assault. Only issue is as they've gone for a "land anywhere" approach, it stops them from really doing any scripted events as fluidly and more of a reverse horde mode.

@Gggmanlives there are a few mechanics that you seemed to have overlooked (not to detract from the review, which was good). Played through 100% last month, might as well share.
    1. You actually can take off the scopes from the rifles like the STG. Not the bolt actions like the Springfield or whatnot, but there is a feature for it that's assigned to a button.
    2. You can actually hold your breath by holding down Space (default) when aiming down scoped weapons like the Springfield, and zoom in/out via scroll wheel. Makes a difference in accuracy, so technically, you actually can pick off enemies when you drop in, like in Operation Varsity, to make your life easier early-mission.
    3. You can lean *even further* by holding down A or D WITH Q and E. You can also lean forward and backward with S and W to pop out vertically from cover.
    4. Your teammates aren't *that* useless. I've seen them killed as much as they've killed some enemy soldiers, although it looks pretty goofy, I'll admit.
That's about it for me, lemme know if I missed any other stuff.

So, for a game focused on airborne ops, it thematically fits very well as the final challenge.

Also, sad to say, this game was built from the ground up to be played with a controller w/ analog triggers and sticks. The entire aiming and shooting system makes no sense on a mouse + keyboard. It's the only FPS I use a controller for.
Airborne is definitely flawed, but it's also quite misunderstood. You're meant to replay the levels like an arcade game, hitting all of the secret landing points and attacking the objectives in different orders.

The 'death tower' you describe was a so called 'flak turm,' multiple of these towers existed as part of the German air defense network. These fortresses still exist today as they are way too massive and difficult to demolish. Continued allied bombardments did little to harm these towers. The towers were so solid and well-build some of the last resistance of the Third reich were held up in these things. They had everything from hospitals to living quarters, kitchens to storehouses. Taking them by force was nigh impossible, instead the enemy had to wait until the inhabitants ran out of supplies.

And yes, many games weren't all that good and I'm more nostalgic than I should be but atleast Frontline and rising sun told an believable and enjoyable story, I had walkthrough books which also explained the real history behind the missions, weapons etc. Fun stuff, you don't get that nowadays.

The last good MoH. Damn, I miss this series. In Airborne there is one
thing I don't like - upgrading Gewehr means you got damn scope.
Thankfully you can take it off from STG44. Even these guys with MG42
didn't bother me. Well, maybe also it was kinda too short. Also this
game looks like it was designed to play on hardest difficulty, because
it doesn't feel ridiculous like in other games.
Also you can walking while aiming through sights. Hold Shift and you will start moving. You can even lean and then hold Shift and you'll walk tilted.
Ah, and useless teammates is something I really miss in modern shooters. I really don't like when AI can "beat" the game for me. It's game for player after all, not movie to watch.
And about that lack of memorable characters... or just any characters. That's just classic shooter design. You vs bad guys, that it. Now it sounds bad, boring, whatever, but after the years I remember every level from every MoH game I played (except Pacific Assault, this one is pure garbage) rather than story or people. This is just action shooter. Go from A to B killing and destroying things on your way.

    • @robert357900
      @robert357900 Před 5 lety +2

So what it has good narrative (where story for me was meh)? This is shooter. Gameplay - this what the matter after all. In MoH 2010 it feels like point and click (just like any CoD game). In older games from series enemies were mobile. They jumping around, moving behind cover etc. Here it just, like CoD... Boring. It might have better sound effects, models than CoD, but it still feels like CoD.
Speaking of MoH:PA, watch review on this channel. This should explain why I don't like it. From me I'll add that PA tried to be more tactical but same AI and shooting mechanics from Allied Assault make it just frustraiting to play. So it isn't tactical shooter neither action shooter.

I always liked this game, but even by 2007's standards, it felt like a relic from a bygone era. That was the year we got Modern Warfare. F.E.A.R. had come out two years prior. That was also the same year we got games like BioShock, Uncharted, Crysis, Assassin's Creed, and Mass Effect. There was no way Airborne was going to be received warmly when it felt like a game that would've followed up Allied Assault, not a game made for then-next-gen consoles. I remember booting it up for the first time and being wowed by the openness of the environments and the gorgeous graphics, but it just didn't play the way you'd expect a next-gen title to play.

It has semi-regen hp. If the whole bar doesn't deplete, it will refill back. Basically, more damage you take at once, the lower your max health pool will be unless you can grab few medkits to refill the bars. I think its an unique and fair mechanic, in between being stuck at low hp in old ww2 games and making further progress extremely tedious, or having fully regenerating health that barely punishes player's dumb decisions.

I had this game for over 10 years and it wasn't until last year that I realized you could press RB (Xbox 360) to remove the scope on the STG44. Amazing game!

I've been wanting to play this on my pc for a while. My introduction to it was from the mobile version on Sony Ericsson which was downright badass.

Those enemies with gas mask firing panzershreck are great attention to detail. Panzershrecks warheads propelant was still burning for 2meters and would burn the user if he didnt have gloves and gas mask. It was a must equipement

Ggg big fan of your videos and I was hoping you could do a review of a game called "25 to life" It's not that great of a game but I played the hell out of it when I was a kid back in the day and it would be cool to get your opinion on it.

Hey buddy. I appreciate your attention to detail about the Springfield 1903. they do in fact have to be loaded one at a time

MoH Airborne is one of my favourite WW2 games. The shotgun in this is one of the greatest shotguns in all of gaming history.

The Springfield rifle scope is to the left side offset so loading with stripper clip isn’t a problem
