Testing out my new Diawa Saltist inshore rod at the Back bay. This rod got me a nice 19'' Fluke near the docks behind the inlet. This is not a rod review, I will make a separate video about it.

You rigged the jerk shad upside down
“It has to be perfect”
Looks like a nice setup! Solid fluke too!
I been killing it with this combo. Thanks for the comment bro.
Love that rod, I have the 8'3" medium light. Have caught king salmon close to 25 lbs in decently fast water. Such a strong backbone on that thing it just doesn't give up.
I agree this rod rocks.
Nice video brodie, the set up is fire!
Thank you
I took my brother for the first time fluking and he caught a 20 incher right there where you caught your fish and he was using the same white swimming mullet LOL ! , everyone else were using killies and he’s the only one who caught a keeper!
Nice catch Ray and thnx for the video !
That’s awesome your brother got a keeper on his first time fluking. That Gulp is deadly to fluke if you know how to use it. Thanks for watching bro.
How well does that 9' load with a 1/4 head and a small plastic? Can you get good distance with it?
Great stuff. Subscribed! Do you think this rod would be overloaded casting a 1/2 oz jighead with a 6inch jerk shad or should I go with the 9'6" medium? Thanks again.
I have that same exact rod I loved it so much I went and I bought two of it. Best rod best backbone hands down. I've carried 7 lb of weight at the end of that rod without it breaking. I have mine paired up with a 4k Saltist. it is for everything fresh water salt water it's the best
It’s been a great fluke and light surf rod for me so far and super light for 9ft rod.
Hey. I got a 9’ footer in a medium. I have a question for you? I was fishing over this weekend. I noticed the fourth guide counting down from the tip is kinda bended forward a little bit. They not normal like the last three guides. Do you have the same issue? Can you please check for me and let me know. Thanks
Nice keeper
Thanks Karl
The JDM finesse surf rods are becoming really popular. All of a sudden Its nearly impossible to get 1 of these rods.
Hey how do you like those VMC Boxer Jig Heads? As I see you been using them in some of your videos here for Fluking this summer and was wondering are the hooks strong on those? As I've been wanting to try them out too....So what Color heads and Sizes do you normally use in those for Fluke? as they come in a few different colors (White, Red, Chartreuse, Plain, Etc) and Wts 1/4oz and 3/8oz models?....Thanks, JD
VMC jig heads are very strong and sharp but sometimes the eye will fall out. I normally use led color and 1/4 to 3/8. Thanks for watching brotha
@@TriboroFishing Hey no problem your welcome as, I just ordered some of those in the (White) color (1/4 & 3/8) to try out with the Gulp as, I tried the VMC (Hybrid Style) Jig Head (With the Spiral Corkscrew type hook holder on them) but the hooks on them just don't feel strong enough imho for Saltwater use although I did hook a big fish off the beach last weekend on a 5/16oz Head with Gulp (Never seen what the fish was) 🤷♂️ but the hook never broke go figure but I'am gonna try those Boxer style heads next time out, as they just look like a more stout stronger Saltwater type of hook on them....Thx and Take Care, JD
Let me know how it goes
@@TriboroFishing Ok buddy sure np Thx again and Good Luck on the next trip out ok! 👍🏻
been thinking abt getting that rod for flke. Now I'm gonna get it I think
It’s a good rod for fluke.
How do you like this rod? From your videos was considering this vs Tsunami trophy 2. I'm looking for a rod that is sensitive enough to use for fluking and also I can use for surf casting for stripers. Thoughts?
I actually own both models there two very different rods. The Daiwa Saltist will be better for fluking if your going light as I am 1/4-3/8 jigs with gulp. Daiwa Saltist will handle schoolies and small bluefish. The trophy two is a good rod for surf fishing for any size striper and blues and cast sp minnow with more accuracy then the Daiwa rod.
@@TriboroFishing Subbed. Thank you for the response. Tsunami has a 10 foot rod, Medium for lures 1/2 - 2 oz. In addition to surf casting for stripers,do you think this can be used for fluking? I'm wondering if it is sensitive enough as it is also for 1/2 oz lures?
If your using a chicken rig or hi-low rig the trophy 2 could be good choice but not for light jigging under 1/2 oz. You could miss a lot of bites like that and you really want to hook set fluke when you feel them bite if your using single jig method. You want something like 1/4 - 1 1/2 lure rated rod and 7-9 ft rod depends where you using it.
Thanks for your reply! Enjoying your videos...
@@gerryb8879 It depends on what you throw. Surf rods with a lower end of 1/2 are plenty sensitive if your throwing a half ounce. It's just that they wear you out much faster then a lighter standard inshore rod. Jigging world makes a lighter surf rod called an Onyx that's only 100$ and people like em.
How do you think about this rod in 9’m or 9’6’’m for king salmon?
Not sure never fished for salmon before.
Is it a 50/50 two piece or a 70/30?
It’s a 50/50 split. I have one available new if you want one. I’ll give you a discount on it.
Why using #20 braid/leader on a UL rated rod (overkill IMHO) ?. I’d go to #10 braid and #12 leader-especially if I’m fishing a 1/2 ounce jighead or less. In fact, I don’t use over #15 braid even when ocean fluking.
I use 20lb and 20 leader because i fish in different situations like rocky jetties or piers sometimes I need to flip the fish over and from my experience anything under 15lbs leader will brake off for me.
@@TriboroFishing I fish rocky and very sticky areas out on the reefs for fluke all the time with #15 braid…only difference is that I swap out the #12 leader for #25.
I’ll use 15-10 lbs braid and 20lbs leader if I was in the ocean to reduce drag.
Is this in North Jersey?
Yes 🙌
Do you use a sinker?
I don’t use a sinker, I use 1/4 or 3/8 jig head. I recommend not using more then 1oz Sinker on this rod. Good luck.
@@TriboroFishing I meant in general. You don’t use a sinker at all or only on this rod?
I don’t use sinker when I’m fluking.
@@TriboroFishing do you use a sinker for strippers?
I only use a sinker when I tautog fishing at the jetty.
is the rod sensitive?
Yes it’s sensitive. I could feel 1/4 oz jig head bouncing at the bottom
So... do you like the rod?
Yes!! I have more Fluke videos coming out using this rod.
@@TriboroFishing Awesome. Any idea on the weight of the rod?
I have exact same rod and it weights approx 4.7oz
@@casanoba77 cool thanks
Now we’re talking….dinner to
Damn son you gotta quarter pound jig lol 😂 you
Going light to better feel that bite. 🙌
