CAMEL needs more recognition as one of the greatest Prog. bands ever! ☀
Amazing band that gets overlooked too often, I totally agree.
@@switchflow5405 ...Indeed!. Probably because half of their albums are just ok, but the other half are absolute masterpieces! That might be confusing for some... I guess... 🙂...Cheers!
Preach!
The Peter Bardens years were fantastic plus the later Rain dances.
Nope
They were okay
Not "great" sorry
Camel is that band so popular with musicians and prog rock fans heard on FM radio on a Sunday night but not played for the pop masses to make money during the week. Highly underrated, as many of us would put them in our Top 20 favorites.
One of my favourite long tracks from an underappreciated prog rock band - great musicianship and structure!
Camel always takes you on an adventure..Love it....Latimer is one of my favorite guitarists and Camel is always on my playlist.
More prog rock is needed and Camel is a great if left field option
Love this song !! Congratulations from Brasil !!
I bought "Mirage" the first month it was released back in '74 and still listen to it at least once a month. Their album "Snow Goose" is even better...
I bought Moon Madness and Nektar "Remember the Future " for a dollar each in 1974. Two of my favorite bands ever...
@@molotulo8808 I picked up my first copy of "Remember the Future" at the same time, under similar circumstances. I've burned through 2 copies on vinyl and 2 copies on CD since. They finally put out a CD release that was true to the original recording, which I ripped to MP3. That one is right up there with Snow Goose as one of my top five favorite albums of all time...
I give you props for at least trying a true Progressive style group. Now you know how us Old Folks do not have a clue what today's to us boring music is, as this style from most bands was what we enjoyed and dug deep into.
The longer prog tracks demand that you take out some time to sit and listen, its not instant gratification or a background bop to driving, Its more like sitting down to watch a movie or a TV show, the whole progression thing is part of the enjoyment and is essential for a track of that length. Andrew Latimer is a truly great guitarist in the mold of David Gilmour where the style is about feel and emotion rather than shredding. For a track that really features his guitar check out the Camel song ‘Ice’ - Live version if you can find it.
Oh shit, they need to react to “Ice.”
Lady Fantasy ... mmm yes. Camel are great. Highly underrated.
I cannot believe youse guys are playing this! There was an f.m.station in San Jose we listened to at work & they had them there interviewing them We went to a friends house who worked at the station for a poker game & the band was there. Great guys. Not sure where they were from but they loved Cali.the stations call letters : K.O.M.E.,FROM SAN JOSE,THE KOMESPOT ON YOUR DIAL.
They are from England. Andy loved the Bay Area so much that he relocated to Mountain View for many years before returning to England.
Pink Floyd, Camel, Caravan, Genesis, Jethro Tull, Rush, Captain Beyond (and the list goes on and on)... these were all part of the big prog rock wave that hit the late 60s and early 70s. Amazing bands doing amazing songs. They laid the path for many bands and are still influencing music to this day.
Wow!... I came back just to say thank you... I'm a super fan of groups like Uriah Heep, Wishbone ash, and the ones you mention but I never heard of Captain Beyond. Listenig right now their first album and it's amazing 😃 Cheers!
This is the first comment I can recall seeing that acknowledges Captain Beyond. I have given up on trying to get reactors to check out one of the first supergroups ever (former members of Deep Purple, Iron Butterfly and Rick Derringer's band). Their first album is one of my top five favorite albums ...
Other than the obvious choices (Yes, King Crimson, ELP, The Moody Blues, Gentle Giant, etc.), I'll also add Van der Graaf Generator, Colosseum, Nektar, Atomic Rooster, Renaissance, Barclay James Harvest, Flash, and Gong to that list.
@@Bigdave1369
Agree 100%
Captain Beyond was awesome. Too bad things fell apart.
Just interesting to see anyone do a reaction video on Camel, not one of the most widely known bands, but amazingly amazing.
CAMEL great band and underestimated like a lot of bands from the past. You guys should try another with a great sound but underestimated and it is CAPTAIN BEYOND from 1972, you will not be disappointed I promise.
One of my absolute favourite tracks of the whole progressive rock genre. Beautiful guitar work fron Mr Latimer and the whole band is great. The Camel Magnum Opus for me.
Beat switch is progressive. Camel was a great band.
If I was to give you my top 4 Camel albums they are Mirage, Moon Madness , The Snow Goose and Stationary Traveller....4 very different albums, but all brilliant in their own right, Camel are the bands band....you must have wondered who the likes of Gilmour, Collins and Hodgson go home and listen to.....😏 Camel, Andy Latimer is a guitar God....even Gilmour would agree there...❤️
BEAUTIFUL SONG
Interesting reaction! Camel will definitely take you on a journey - not a short stroll but an expedition, a musical voyage down a ‘road less travelled’!
Sending my support & ❤ from 🇬🇧
A suggestion (perhaps not for the channel but a personal listen) would be Camel keyboardist Pete Barden's short album "Seen One Earth." A wonderful little concept piece from 1987. One of my faves.
One of the greatest songs for me! I don’t know much about camel except some songs, i’m not a big fan, but this song hits very hard, it’s an emotional rollercoaster!
Andy Latimer is an outstanding guitarist with such feeling. ICE is the best guitar instrumental ever in my opinion.
I saw them in Newcastle (England) in 1975 or 76. Brilliant musicians!
So nice to see you reach way back to some cool music. They have some great tracks.
at 6:00 you are describing the song - something you see in the distance, is it there? is it not there? you're never reaching... etc..
Dude, look at the album title :)
Great reaction guys , i applaud you jumping in. They are probably my favorite Prog Bands. They do have many shorter, and beautifull melodic songs. Very Catchy tunes .
Try: " Echos" from the Mirage album. You will love it.
Also maybe From the Dnow Goise Album: Ryhader/ Ryhader goes to town medley . Its so beautifull and multi instrumental!🔥🔥🔥
Great show!
Great to see your reactions to a band that means so much to me. I remember going to their concerts in the 70's. I saw them again a few years ago and they ended with this track. Brilliant then and now.
Caravan should be next.
How about Nine Feet Underground... a real test 😆
The Dog The Dog He's At It Again by Caravan
Yes Nine feet underground would also blow the track length record out of the water. They would have to bring in supplies for the trip but it would be well worth it.
My first Camel album Moon Madness. I bought it in 1974 for a dollar. I also bought Nektar "Remember the Future". Two of my favorite bands ever. I just saw Nektal Marvk 11 2023 at The Cave in Buffalo NY (you guys should check out Nektar too)!
It's all a Mirage!!🎶🎶🎶
Nice reaction 👍🏻
Btw, the middle part is used in a song:
Wiz Khalifa - Ounces and pounds 😏😎
Please check out Ocean Cloud by Marillion. It's also (neo) prog and almost 18 min.😁.
You guys will love it!
Camel, are a unique band, glad you went down the Camel route guys..
I'm slightly surprised you liked this tbh...you guys crack me up too.
Loved you our Yours is no Disgrace reaction..just fab guys 🫶🫶🙂
Funny, Ty mentioned he heard Rush in this, understandable, but worth pointing out that this album came out the same day as Rush's debut. You definitely need to check out some Marillion, their guitarist Steve Rothery's playing make him the love child of Andy Latimer and David Gilmour (and they're still making great music, their album An Hour Before It's Dark reached #2 in the UK last year). Also plenty of long songs I can suggest (12 minutes is your longest? Such lightweights... :P) but try this for size. An 18 minute track with Jimmy Page on guitar and John Paul Jones on bass. Nope, not Led Zep. The track is called Love Chronicles...the artist? Al frickin' Stewart.
I don't remember this song, maybe I've listened to it for a long time, it can be compared with YES, Emerson, Lake & Palmer or Grand Funk Railroad, in any case it's worth listening to, I can listen to this kind of music for hours and not get bored.
Yeah that was a journey. Never heard of that song or them. Very 70's!!! That spacey feeling at the beginning to the slow glide at the end. Ryan was in the zone the whole time (eyes closed and swaying). Nick just was having a good time and keeping up with it. Ty you looked liked you liked you were into it, but confused as to what you were listening to. Always fun!!!
I have their LPs they are one of my favorites along with Tangerine Dream.
You really need to listen to Jethro Tull's Thick as a Brick album. Serious.
You guys NEED to hear some Genesis! '70s prog is amazing. It is art. Creative.
Really, really interesting choice. It's the first music reaction channel where I was introduced to so many cool bands I e never heard before. I love hearing what people think about music and I think all the reaction videos are very good. But you guys travel down a very broad path when comes to music. Your channel is fire, always. And I never know where you guys are going to go next with music. The only band I know in progressive rock is NEU and I think they are great. This particular song from Camel is wonderful.
Check out some Marillion!
This is one of the really great prog tracks. And Camel did many, many more as good. But it wasn't influence by Rush - it was recorded in 1974 when no-one had heard of Rush.
Ice
By Camel is a Masterpiece
But so many great tunes!
I would have to agree with you, ICE is a MASTERPIECE
If you want a story listen to Snow Goose and follow along with the tale included in the album notes
I wonder if the guys even know what album notes are, lol. Or an album.
Better yet, read Paul Gallico’s book. It’s short so you could read it in the same amount of time it takes to listen to the album. Definitely adds to the enjoyment and appreciation for Camel’s work.
The Snow Goose is the greatest album ever recorded in my opinion, but you HAVE to read Paul Gallico's short story to really understand and fully appreciate it.
Wow, great choice! As a big fan of Prog rock, I'm a bit embarrassed that I had not yet taken the time to dig into Camel. These guys explore textures I've never experienced previously, and I find them very enjoyable for sure.
On a side note, I'm not sure if you guys and your channel specifically have anything to do with the subtitles calling out what you are saying while commenting, but in any case, something rather humorous popped up in this video, specifically. When Nick called out, "Ok, NOW I hear the Prog!", it got translated as "Ok, now I hear the Prague"! 😆
Listen to the first four albums with Bardens on keyboards.
FAntastic choice guys. Not too many people know CAmel. Great Progressive band. Listen to Nektar. The King Of Twilight or Remenber the future or a tab in the ocean. Fantastic!
Is it a MIRAGE?
Camel, like Genesis, just makes you sit and listen. They just seep over you. AND then the beat switch! Bizarre. Prog.
There's plenty more where that came from, including songs with longer beautiful slow sections.
They weren't that unknown. I first saw them in the 1970's when they played 2 nights at the 3500 seat Hammersmith Odean in London and it was a sellout, at least on the night I went. I know that because we bought the last available seats! Every time I saw them they was a big audience. 40 years later they packed out the Albert Hall judging by the video of that. They were pretty big on the Prog Rock scene but were never a 'pop' band so were rarely played on commercial radio.
Curtis Mayfiield - Superfly ( 72)
Title track from the groundbreaking soundtrack.
You cover Camel and not Superfly???
Finally you've discovered one of the probably least famous of the great progressive bands of the 70s. Great review/reaction as always!
I just stumbled across this channel. Amazing! and so many videos - really nice guys too.
But seeing the bands you've done i still cant believe you havent done King Crimson or Opeth
Recommendations:
King Crimson - Starless (live in Japan 2015)
Opeth - Deliverance, (live at red rocks) - if you dont mind some accompanying growls
Or, Moon Above Sun Below for something more proggy and no growls.
PLEASE :)
Don't forget Foreigner - Urgent ... for ultimate sax
dust is hot with them, good job youngers ...from France !
Next one has to be the Nimrodel Medley, especially the white rider.
Great band from a lifelong fan. You should try Never Let Go as a much shorter Camel trek.
Maybe some Kayak would be less "out there" for them, yet still with Progressiveness to it?
Camel had made a few real great album
I grew up listening to this (and other Camel albums) on vinyl in the '70s, and was lucky to see them in a small club in '79; they were as skillful live as they were in the studio. The feedback-laden section in the slow guitar solo always brings a tear.
If you want to hear other 'proggy' tracks, I recommend:
Journey (older prog, before Steve Perry and Jonathan Cain ruined them): 'People' (czcams.com/video/fsUevxTyaqI/video.html)
Porcupine Tree (back together and touring with a new album last year after disbanding in 2010): 'Hatesong' (live: czcams.com/video/O5nAA_QXBPY/video.html), or 'Blackest Eyes' (live: czcams.com/video/UCqi63mY1j4/video.html), or 'Way Out of Here' (czcams.com/video/UCqi63mY1j4/video.html). PT have one of the most talented and musical drummers currently playing, and their strong songwriting always shines through.
Riverside: 'Left Out' (live: czcams.com/video/bkkNwzv73ac/video.html; studio version: czcams.com/video/fsUevxTyaqI/video.html). Polish band Riverside -- fronted by bassist/vocalist/lyricist Mariusz Duda (who has one of the great voices in music) -- have just released a new album, and will tour N. America this year.
Haken: 'Nightingale' (czcams.com/video/IeENKWcitCw/video.html). Another band with a smokingly talented and musical drummer (Ray Hearne); this track is from their upcoming album, which they're touring to support.
Listen to Emerson, Lake and Palmer "From the Beginning "
Maybe you have, I don't know
Lmao! It's a mirage!
AT LAST....😳 I play some Camel on my synth...😏 check out Lunar Sea off the Snow Goose album...😏
Great! ... but, lunar sea is from (their masterpiece) "Moonmadness" 😃
@@mytvsettowatch so it is Marc..🙄 I'm showing me age now...😳🤣🤣🤣
@@annettemoore7264 I also play Synth. That's why I have that song so fresh on my mind 😊 Cheers!
@@mytvsettowatch I bet you love Home by the Sea pt 2 as well then? 😳 it took me forever to master that...🤣
@@mytvsettowatch czcams.com/video/HxbwuNhI_Ok/video.html 😏👍
And if you want a LAUGH and a good song.
Do King Crimson - Lark's Tongues in Aspic - Official Video Clip
I guarantee you you're ribs will hurt while you enjoy the "organized noises"
Hmmm they want a story, then Grobschnitt's "Rockpommel's Land" will take them away.
Try 'Ice' live in LA - exceptional.
Great track ! Can you please react to Godspeed You! black emperor - Sleep it’s another long sorta track that has a lot of great parts.
Reminds me of The Doors- Riders On The Storm🤓
The music, in some parts, reminds me of 'The Stranglers' and like you say 'The Doors'.
Look at Camel Total Pressure Live Lady Fantasy
Sounds like something from the 60s. Nothing wrong with that, though. Definetly takes you for a strange ride.
Never heard about them but I liked this song! Thanks for bringing this song to my attention.
I read on Wikipedia that they influenced, among others, Marillion.
Would recommend that you react to some early Marillion!
And if you want to break the record for the longest song and see a great stage show at the same time, try their song "Grendel": czcams.com/video/Is-WlIn300A/video.html
English prog in fact intrinsically English .. What tiny country has given more to music in the 21 century? Moon madness and mirage are masterpieces
bro on the left high as fuck
this is fire and i had no idea but this is sampled by Wiz khalifa and berner in a great tune i heard b4 this called OZ's and lbs
Sounds like a late 60's RUSH!
If this got your attention don't try Close to the Edge by Yes. lol
"better be with that length"... lol, all songs on the album has that length. 😂
Try listen to airborn from camel
Música Castle in the air da banda Eloy
Try Nektar ...

Hahaha, when I was young collecting vinyl albums I always saw the camel albums and never gave them a chance. To me they sounded like Yes at times, also like Iron Butterfly and Deep Purple. Didn't care for the vocals to. It sounded creepy.
That is fair, the vocals were always the only negative about them. Too bad they never brought in a vocalist with a good range who would of paired with the instrumentation. Oh well.

IT's PROG,not wierd at all to us initiated, just normal, but Camel are better than most prog bands of that era,yet one of the least recognized, try listeni g to Camels 'ice" and "hymn to her" a level above this, just amazing, then you'll see properly the emotive skills of guitarist andrew latimer, you need to listen to them tracks to fully appreciate CAMEL😊
Hi there Gentlemen,
three completely clueless persons marveling around, what fun to watch or as Frank Zappa put it:
If you have to ask, you're too young to know.
This band was not known by charts music addicted but had a huge fan base amongst high school, college and university students (to use American terms) with a taste for progressive music.
I assume some 50 years ago the three of you would not have giggled the day away instead of listening highly concentrated.
No offence.
