after playing ACC and getting pretty good winning a race from P3 against some really fast people, going back to F1 felt so underwhelming. the wheel is so dead the racing online is so bad its really sad actually. ACC on console is a really great game.

I want to see if the hype is worth it. I've always been a "late adopter" when it comes to consumer electronics and video games. And my purchase history with F1 games is 2018, 2022, 2023. I bent and got F123 on sale because I had enough of 22's handling and traction system, and I have loved F123. I intend on playing F123 for many years to come. Also, because I don't usually buy sports games annually, that means the game modes I play (career mode single player) stays fresher than me, unlike someone who say, buys the game every year.
Like many others here, im waiting to see what the new game will offer.
Don't really want to spend 70 quid on the same game.
Also worth mentioning is that F1 23 will be one of the free games available in March... its a decent marketing strategy to say the least.
Entice players with last years game so they get hooked and spend 70 quid if not more on exactly the same thing just with a shiny new badge.
Not sure about that. a lot of new F1 fans probably haven't played an F1 game before might just take the free PS plus game and not spend £70 on the "new" one where the driver roster is almost identical.
To be honest, we've already seen what the game will look like. F123, F122, F1 2021 and F1 2020.
About the new engine, people really need to put their expectations in check, because if or when they indeed change, the first game on a new engine it's never fully optimized, it happened in 2010, 2015 and it will happen again. Unreal is indeed heavy for racing games, Assetto Corsa Competizione is proof of that, but Unreal is kinda universal in gaming development, EA is shifting to unreal in many divisions because it's easier to hire new developers to work on their games, it becomes cheaper too because you can hire people and they can work straight away without needing training to learn how the engine works.
I'm still playing f1 2017 lol, I don't touch the online modes and honestly I feel dirty dropping money on what is essentially small upgrades year after year.
Breaking point is fun, they need to bring back classic cars plus extra iconic tracks (unless they redevelop existing tracks and then add updated tracks for DLC if they keep the same tracks then its unacceptable to not add non calendar tracks). For multiplayer then need to add a steward or allow host to be the steward, or improve the penalty system. (honestly allowing to have a steward would be the best)

You know ACC runs on Unreal Engine. So it does work on racing games. Now what i heard from Tom97s YT vid. Was he was saying f124 is supposed to be on the Unreal Engine and only for ps5 to fix connectivity issues. And i want laser scanned tracks.

I guess we could also see it running with the Frostbite -engine, which is highly in use with EA at the moment. Of course there is only games like Need for Speed using it (from "racing" games), but I guess it could be do-able? Either way, as long as they get some of the legacy code erased and make it more stable (and not just copy-paste over the old game), it could be ok. I'm not keeping my hopes up though, but F1 23 was a step to the right direction.
If they change the engine, it most likely means that it's been under development for quite some time now and most likely is just waiting for the cars and/or tracks to be updated.
The fact that it is available on PS4 + is released sooo early is a red flag. It would be the same game.
I don’t think I’ll be buying the game full stop. I think I speak on behalf of a lot of people when I say that I totally agree with what you’ve said there and it’s not just the general public as well it’s content creators and the E-Sports scene as well that suffers too. I can imagine it’s becoming evermore difficult for yourself and others alike to promote a game that in all essence hasn’t changed at all really or provided any effective changes in nearly a decade, we still have tracks that haven’t been updated in years, the same career mode concept, a very restrictive my team career mode which is becoming more and more tedious as time goes on and that’s just a snippet of it, and now they’ve dropped this on us like we’re supposed to believe that this is going to be some ground breaking game that isn’t a complete carbon copy of the previous 8 we’ve had since the last game engine update, and on top of that try and charge us £20/30 more than previous years for the same bogus “additional content” we’ve had for the past 4 or 5 games. Typical EA, just sees dollar signs and nothing else matters to them. They will and always will be one of the worst game developers for its attention to its community I’ve ever come across, and I hope their time with F1 games is short so that hopefully we can get a company that comes in that actually listens to its audience and its content creators so that they can create an enjoyable, yet realistic and intricate game that allows people of all backgrounds and understanding of the sport to have the opportunity to enjoy what a potentially huge sim racing Game has to offer.
Well I already pre-ordered f1 24 but I did this because it'll be my first f1 game and i don't plan to buy f1 25 if it doesn't have big new changes. I hope f1 24 will be good and I'm excited to try it out even if its similar to f1 23 or the previous games.

Right now the only thing that would oull me in is lazer scanned tracks. We are going to have the EXACT same circuits anyways if not less. Other than that i dont see too much of anything to be hyped about.
After F122 I moved to ACC, will stay there, thank you Kunos. I didn't even know anything about GT3, but I found an incredible sim, made by a company that has a fraction of the budget. EA way of doing things is disrespectful. It's the same with the FIFA series.

It just hits me how many small things have been missing all this time. Since helmet customization came in 2016, we have never been able to change vizor for example, never been able to move around the sponsors of the my team helmet, nothing.
It's best to wait and see
I've said this a number of times: more QA, less F1 world. I've experienced quite some silly bugs myself, like setups not loading on TT and brake bias of all things falling to 50% when on track AFTER a successful setup load. That causes issues, period. I'd rather not get the e-sticker album and get a stable game. I'd ditch F1 world in a heartbeat and not get a 1000+ days sponsor deal on My Team.
And though I've got an issue with "that" game mode, I hope they don't justify it by saying "hey, everyone loves it... see, thousands play time trial and time trial is inside F1 world! F1 world is the thing!".
Not buying the game will only hurt ourselves. It won't scratch EA, unless it's a widespread movement. As long as content creators (and ourselves) keep buying, creating and consuming content, playing, etc... why would they even consider solving bugs or doing decent QA?
I'm extremely disappointed about how they handle this franchise. But hey, it's F1. If they have us compile and run the code ourselves we'll probably dig it.
I'll continue to play F1 2021 until they actually develop something worth paying for.

I don’t know why so many people want a new engine. It means they’ll have to remake the game from the ground up with completely new physics. Why risk such a move instead of staying with something that isn’t broken. F1 23 had such a nice step forward in terms of physics. Why throw all of that out the window and start from new? Give us a new Career mode and general improvements in other aspects of the game and I’m happy.

Might not even get it at all if its not even got for example livery editor and more general content then last year game. Last year i had the champions edition and i was so let down with the lack of customisable liveries and badges etc.
I hope i dont get graphics bars on my 4k toshiba Tv on the new one , i get grey bars on F1 22 , and 23 , Ps5 , each side of the front wheels, but i dont get it on my sony 1080p tv really annoying.😢 i tried different HDMI cables on the 4K teli and different inputs to no avail , its got to be the game, it appears around the car graphics .
With the engine being so old, I wonder whether you can get like F1 2017 and stick the 23 files in it and like... would it magically work with minimal effort?

Not a chance in hell. Anyone buying this game at full price at launch is insane. For the record WRC is unplayable. The in cockpit view is like driving with a blindfold on. The very limited adjustments allowed still have you driving like the hypnotist Romark, look it up! I and many others bought WRC based on the promised VR support which has not materialised and shows no sign of ever being implemented as promised.
I will not pre-order the game. I don't even know if I'll buy F1 24 at all. If it is the same like F1 23, the game isn't worth it for me

I dislike how people drive on this, and how things like bumps are often ignored, like you can just drive the floor over the red and white... i don't like that
and like you said all feels the same, and often what it really lacks for me is that "feel" of driving, and if I don't have that I don't like it
Haven't bought an F1 game since 2020 and it looks like this year won't be an exception. I'd rather spend 30€ on Le Mans Ultimate in early access and see what they can make of it, there's definitely more potential than the F1 game in its current state.

This might be a hot take here but last year's game was pretty fine imo, especially the handling and the graphics they don't seem broken at all and relatively stable in my eyes.

I got cheated in 22 when they charged extra and said we would be getting the product release earlier. Needless to say they didn’t release the product early, I still got charged. They should early release to all the people they have already cheated. I will be waiting to buy this when the price goes down.

Honestly, the game should not be available on 11 year old consoles. I know it sucks for people with said consoles but if we want a better game with the capabilities possible, they have to stop supporting them. Your point about the Unreal Engine being unoptimised is a fair point but over time they could better optimise and EVEN if they do not choose to use unreal they could at least update their own engine
Yeahh idk . I have been buying them for years but I am not sure if I will even buy this one. I'd rather spend my money on iRacing or something where I know my money is going to good use and people that actually care.
I buy f1 2019 from eneba for only 7 euro in 03.2021. In april 2021 I win F1 2020 from steam community after an random giveaway - so I have 2020 free. In november 2021, because I own 2019 & 2020 i've got 80% discount (50% Autumn sale + 30% Codemasters) for f1 2021 - 12 Euro. Total f1 2019 + f1 2020 + f1 2021= 21 Euro. I buy F1 22 for 60 on 1 july 22 and f1 23 pre-order for 70!!!!!!!. After I play 23 & 22 300h and go back to F1 2021 I said ......... wow - a very good game + very complete game and good graphics & an inteligent AI. I still strongly recommanded f1 2020 and 21. Very usefull video thx.

After the farce of EA WRC i will never pre order another title from them or anyone else for that matter. Triple screen support/VR support....and PSVR2 not even considered!
Stats is clear, double less unit sold and double less profit (F122->F123). It shows people are not stupid anymore. Constant recycling year after year and price is higher and higher. My forecast for F1 24 is another 50-60% less in unit sold and profit.

I suspect that they're going to roll the dates back a bit more next year aswell. This year's game most likely is just a stop gap to next years when they'll actually introduce the new engine. If they do that, it's a horrible decision because the people that buy F124 will not touch F125. I mean I've barely played this year's game, I'm probably not going to buy F124 until I get some more info.
F1 23 is the only F1 game I ever bought and that will not change unless they do some new features in and classic cars.

ACC ran on UE4, and is now a very good pretty well optimized game (apart from VR)
I mean tbf games are built on money its how they pay their workers so yes its expensive for "some" people unless EA yells at codemasters to switch engines or what ever they will push with their own built game engine to periodicly make it better
Are you sure about the game engine ? I mean racing games like Assetto Corsa Competizione still runs on the old consoles with Unreal Engine 4 like WRC. So i think it's possible. Or just wishful thinking xD

I would buy it if they updated the tracks (Canada, Spa, Monza, Mexico etc.) What we have now is unacceptable for such an expensive game.
I garauntee if from the start of this year every game to come out was CURRENT GEN ONLY then more people would buy the consoles, I know it's not that easy for everyone but if you saved £5 a week from the start of 2022 you'd have enough to buy one now brand new let alone second hand. Holding back the PS5 by supporting the PS4 makes the games look worse and makes the PS5 feel pointless for those who currently have PS4.

Why do license holders decide to give it to only one studio. Why is this even legal, arent Codies and the F1 games considered a monopoly?
As a developer I can say you're looking at it all wrong asking for a new game engine. Keeping the same game engine isn't the issue. Expanding, optimizing, evolving and upgrading that game engine is the issue. There is nothing (aside from upper management that only cares for the ROI - Return on Investment) stopping Codemasters/EA from upgrading and evolving the Eco game engine to new modern graphics, better features, more optimizations etc. The problem is coming from the massive copy and paste every year. Using the same code, changing very little, adding the new cars and liveries, adding a couple more things and voila, done. Everyone will buy it. And that's another issue, people pre-ordering and buying it on release. They get the numbers in, they keep doing the same ol crap and they keep raising the price until they see what the stoppage point is when people say, "Fuck this". People need to not buy when it matters to the company most, the fisrt 10 weeks from release day. They need to show these companies that we won't support this level of treatment as gamers and that if they don't do better, they can expect to fail to make money.
In turn, that could also be a great thing because then companies like that may decide to let go the license and it may have the opportunity to go to a developer that actually cares for the series and games. Also another note here would be that the teams working on the games no doubt have greater desires and wants but are most likely stifled by upper management decisions. I know we were when we worked with EA in the past. That's their method, a bunch of grown men who have never played a video game before making decisions on what can and cannot be in a game. It's a stupid system and we're all continually funding it.
EA are NOT the company to pre-order from!!!! If anything you wait till at least 6 months (2 or 3 updates) later to buy a game from EA. Don't bother.
