  • Though they have a shadowed history with respect to some others, the Minotaurs have a dark reputation amongst their peers. Armed with excellent equipment and led by the Brazen Warlord Asterion Moloc, their supposed ties to the High Lords of Terra and brutal nature have caused friction within the upper echelons of the Imperium and Adeptus Astartes.

    It has been hinted that the Minotaurs are actually a chapter made from genetic material from a surviving Thunder Warrior who did stuff to some geneseed stocks and on himself for his lifespan, I forgot the book and got reminded from a comment on another video. Honestly I'd like that better than making them loyalist from the traitor legions, it gives them a sense of uniqueness that stands that amongst the others. I'm not sure really but it's my canon

  • @peterquint3816
    @peterquint3816 Před 6 lety +19

    Great video, Michael, informative as ever but also quite witty in places as well. As for the Minotaurs - Guilliman will surely have opened these secret documents about them by now and, like everything else in 40k, it probably just made him more depressed.
    I know you don't really have the time to read all the novels but I'd really recommend at least the chapter in Dark Imperium when Guilliman is reading documents and catching up on the state of the Imperium. I like RG, he's one of my favourite primarchs, but it was actually hilarious to hear how everything he learns just makes him facepalm and reflect on how utterly retarded the Imperium is now.

    Yey. Minotaurs :)
    While not outright stated, I feel it's implied they lost their insane berserkery after their re-emergence (Part of which suggests they might be an entirely new chapter bearing the same name), but otherwise good stuff :D
    I basically built my entire chapter around that first image you have, the guy in Mk4 armour (though I reserve that for elites, with standard troops getting Mk3) and spartan plume on the helm.

    I’ve got this crazy idea that these dudes are of the same gene seed as Magnus mixed with the Emperors Custodes, the council of Nicea was about 31000 so it makes sense we start seeing these guys around 32000, which would also explain why they aren’t Psykers since Magnus is such a powerful psyker he would need the emperor’s assistance in making nonpsyker astardes, along with Magnus having Minotaur iconography, Moloche In history is associated with “child sacrifice” which you can read into a couple ways, Magnus supporting the Council of Nicea which is a huge sacrifice for a Psyker of his level, the emperor making a sacrifice for his child maybe? Could also explain the custodes spear (being partial custodes themselves maybe?) The fact they have 1000 units, that they have older versions of equipment. I’m pretty noob at most all the lore but from the tidbits I hear it was fun to play with this idea. Oh almost forgot, along with the ancient Minotaur living in a maze it also plays at the eerie similarity of tzeenchs maze. Roast me lore pros ;)

    Considering how many stupid ideas were implemented in that founding, I think they might have Horus gene seed. After all, they do fit in the description of the Luna Wolves, and it would explain why they don't want to say who their Primarc is. And if you're gonna use traitor gene seed, Horus' is probably the safest

      Crystal Logik and exactly what is Angron's personality. For all we now, he might like kitties and be a psicohistoria a pacifist, of not for the butcher's nails. That's the problem with World Eater geneseed, you can't actually know what it does without the butcher's nails, except that they aren't even remotely as crazy as with them

    • @SSVjoker
      @SSVjoker Před 6 lety

      Crystal Logik I think that's part of the point for GW, to keep us guessing, just like with many other things. And as I said, they do remind me of the Nightlords, which doesn't really say much for their sanity, so World Eaters wouldn't be impossible either. One thing for sure, though, they sure as hell aren't Salamamders

    • @DP-dd6hl
      @DP-dd6hl Před 6 lety

      They couldn't be night lords as their show no physical signs of that gene seed. Best bet due to their way of being would be world eaters. Note as they have no butchers nails implanted they are not completely mad. Saying that their gene seed could also be chimeric, as in more tgan one gene seed used, which is also very heretics which also explains the high lords keeping records away from everyone

    I guess having my Ork Freebootas submitting their battle report where they overran and krumped a bunch of Custodes into paste yesterday to the Administorum is no-go then?
    "Wot? Wot da zog are ya lookin' at me like that for?"
    Seriously though, the Minotaurs are a nasty bunch indeed. It almost feels like they're the High Lord of Terra's equivalent to what the Space Wolves/Night Lords were during the pre-Heresy days: the guy you send in to deal with people who get too far out of line and need to be dealt with/made an example of (except less of the 'Terrorizing entire sectors because we were bored' mentality of course).

  • @potandpoliticswithmr.broph1420

    I'd put my money on World Eaters being involved. There was a lot of shenanigans being done to the Cursed Founding geneseed, World Eaters or World Eaters Chimeric would be my guess. You'd definitely hide that, especially from the inquisition. Without the Butcher's Nails there really isn't much defining about World Eaters that would physically stand out to the best of my knowledge. World Eaters always had brutality issues even before the nails, if you use them primarily to check other Astartes and fleet based combat it wouldn't become apparent though. Killing the entire crew of a ship is much easier to justify than killing everything in a hive city. You know they're gonna throw everything they have at every problem, which acts as a natural control. Their combat doctrines depend on incredible resupply and recruitment, makes them better armed and armored than most chapters you send them against but also means you can cripple them by cutting off resupply after a major conflict and a few engagements later their reckless loss of life and expenditure of material would reduce their combat effectiveness drastically. Then they could be easily taken on and mopped up by other Astartes if they happen to get out of line.
    That's just my thought, I'm maybe 70-75% on that theory. It's loose but plausible and fits the cursed founding

    My own favourite has to be the SONS OF EDEN placed among the trade routes in fast well armoured ships painted in PALE GREY and black pauldrons with a CHROME EAGLE or OTHER DECORATIONS upon the chest. THE chapter marking is a simple WHITE SIGN (imagine the ultramarines emblem turned over 180°.) So their originators may have come from ULTRAMARINES or has the machine God followers produced its own Primaris marines? All that is known is their ships hit hard and the boarding actions are perfect. It's reported that once a ship is taken be it xnomorph, Renagades or others they are imolted into vapour and the craft be it humanoid sent to the nearest loyal planet as a bond between them and the Emporeor. The Inquisition recently made contact and were surprised to find the Astartes totally pure with no grafting of machines or improper properties growing from or through armour !
    So was this just a odd chance in picking a ship new to the trade routes time will tell .
    Recently the chapter whole (SONS OF EDEN) were called to assist the IRON SNAKES fighting the Dark Elder plus ORK raiders who were possibly identified using the warp storms as cover ?
    IRON SNAKES members had learnt that the SONS OF EDEN followed teachings from the codex but adapted it from teachings to practical not unlike themselves . .They were informed that the SONS OF EDEN fortress was a space port only known by ships crew (serfs whose Uniforms were grey with red caps) .The Marine officer's ie lieutenant, captain and above wore a gold chest insignia also they were allowed to carry the skulls of human champions they had defeated. THE IRON SNAKES were surprised to find the SONS OF EDEN respective to their tactics . Soon as they defeated the Ork and Dark elder( who taken innocent people as slaves or just for amusement) the SONS OF EDEN beganto depart only to be replaced by a huge space port visible by the human eye from the home world of the IRON SNAKES. THE chapter master had brought two captured defence stations as tribute to a new allies . THE SONS OF EDEN master 'JANUS AGRIPPA' descended via a craft unknown to the IRON SNAKES he wore a simple toga with a pale grey line at the waist which was simular to the clothing of Ithaka the sat and ate bread ( the IRON SNAKES tradition) Then signed a treaty of friendship that when either one needed help the other if possable would send help. So the honour guard clad as IRON SNAKES in their steel coloured armour,white pauldrons and the SONS OF EDEN in their pale grey armour black pauldrons shook hands in the warrior tradition grasping the forearm. Both under the sun of ITHAKA forging new brotherhood as the Ultramarines primarch had written!
    SONS of Eden made for such moments to fight in the name of the Emporeor so man may also protect the empire one day?

    I don't know about anyone else, but I don't really care about space marines, as most of them are usually based on the Ultramarines, which I feel are the least interesting. Even then, a lot of the other Space Marine Chapters are slightly more interesting to around the same level of Ultramarines. It doesn't help that a lot of chapters are based on the Ultramarines or Blood Angels.
    I don't even care for the Primarus Space Marines as they are just Ultramarines that are space marine space marines... yay.
    ... but if there was anything I liked about the Space Marines, it would have to be anything in the 21st founding. There are a few chapters that I like outside of this founding, but the 21st "Cursed" Founding is great. Lamenters, Black Dragons, Minotaurs, Blood Gorgons... they are all just great. They all have something about them that make them more interesting than the standard Space Marine Chapters. Don't know if the Lamenters of Black Dragons are my favourite
