Susan Boyle is the definition of "don't judge a book by its cover". She made everyone eat their words the second she started singing. Truly an inspiration.
When she came out in that audition and people pulled faces at her with her beige dress and being (le gasp) 47, it was all rather sad that people had already mostly written her off before she opened her mouth. Then she was funny and a bit flirty and people warmed to her. Then she let loose and the cleaning staff must have been picking jaws off the floor that evening

I remember the first time I saw her come out on that stage in 2009, I was just like everyone else. I thought ok, this is a joke, she's not going to be able to sing worth anything. But just like everyone else in that auditorium I was shocked to the core the moment those first beautiful notes of song came out of her mouth. I had to listen to her sing that song over and over again and again. I had to watch the reactions of everyone there. The responses of the judges when she was finished signing. Susan has one of the most beautiful singing voices I've ever heard. God blessed her and I hope she shares her gift for many years to come. ❤😊❤

The last lines in her breakthrough song are: "So different now from what it seemed / Now life has killed the dream I dreamed" Thats actually what it feels like when a dream comes true. Recognition/Adoration maybe at first looked like a badly needed hot meal to a starving person, but it just tastes a bit like sawdust when that meal arrives on a fork in your mouth. It probably took Susan Boyle far, far, far more courage to taste the reality of breakthrough fame, than it ever did to persist in an ordinary life being invisible and underappreciated.
