U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force fall short of recruitment goals

  • The U.S. Army, Navy and Air Force are all falling short of their recruitment goals, and new data shows few young Americans are willing to serve in the military. According to a survey from the Department of Defense, fear of physical/emotional trauma and leaving friends and family behind top the list of concerns, along with other career interests pulling potential recruits away from military service.
    Retired U.S. Colonel and former Central Command spokesperson Joe Buccino spoke with Scripps News about the growing national security threat as military recruitment continues to decline.

Homelessness, Mental health Challenges with no real way of treating it, and Overall health care, even after being wounded while serving. I feel like it just depends. Yes too many VETS come back and are mistreated and that is a huge problem. However many people transition into civilian jobs after the military. It just depends on what your experience is and job was. Even still after you get out it’s on you to be an adult get a job and reintegrate back into society. They just need to give way more support and resources for our veterans when they get out. I love all our soldiers and we owe it to them to treat them right and make sure they are taken care of and respected. I mean come on if someone is brave enough to go fight for others they deserve to come back with a warm welcome.

      The "easiest" way I'm aware of to get a green card is to get accepted to a US university as a student and then have an employer in the US sponsor you to get a green card.
      Or you can try the US Diversity Visa Lottery. Ghana is a country on the list meaning you're allowed to enter the lottery and possibly win a visa.

He said its great 7 hour work days including an hour lunch and two 15 minute break periods which you can save up for full days off. Plus union and other great benefits. We did a tally of hours. He's getting paid way more on the outside for less hours of work. In the military your up by 0600 sometimes earlier for PT. Then you work until 1700 and in most cases 1900 and sometimes later. Some cases you get into a unit that stays in the field and your working 18 hour days. You have a whole generation or 2 of veterans who deployed during GWOT coming home and advising their kids, nephews, nieces, little brothers and sisters and family friends kids who are graduating high school that the military isn't what it is advertised as and you will likely have a bad experience if you join. Also, 20 years ago you could just say "9/11" and it would make people's blood boil and want to go to their recruiting station. Not the same effect on 18 year-olds in 2024 who weren't born until 2006.

Toxic military lifestyle is a big barrier as well. Some people don’t want to be mocked and disrespected from their chain of command for simple things like dietary restrictions. As an infantry vet, watching current events. Tried to reenlist, was talking to a recruiter who was happy to talk to me, until I told him I was as a vet. Then he ignored me thereafter. Serves them right.
    The whole country saw American soldiers die for absolutely nothing during the Afghan and Iraq wars, where we achieved nothing.

    As an Army Vet, I stopped a couple of my cousins from joining. I say this as a child of a Mexican Immigrant. I got in trouble and didn’t get recess on 9/11. I watched on TV as the other kids were at recess. That was where my patriotism was born. Joining the US Army is where it kind of died.

    • @electrifyingvids3545
      @electrifyingvids3545 Před 2 měsíci +1

      Just curious: Why did it kinda die? Was it how the government treated you as a vet? Was it how the US army treated other nations and people?

    • @choncha23
      @choncha23 Před 2 měsíci +9

      @@electrifyingvids3545 Definitely the latter. I went to Iraq from 2019 to the end of 2020. I had the privilege to go to Ramadi and Fallujah since I was on a base in the middle of the two. Parts of the town were still destroyed. Buildings still had bullet holes from 15 years ago. I was talking to the locals and many knew English. The “enemy” is dead. They have been dead for almost 10 years now. I was talking to teenagers and young adults who are the children of the enemy. Those people don’t deserve that. They are just like me: trying to survive. You would think we would built up Iraq after we plummeted the country. Nope! Didn’t rebuilt roads. Didn’t provide the citizens clean water. Didn’t built needed infrastructure. Only thing we built were roads that lead to our bases or benefited us. I understand why they hate us. Saddam was a dictator but he built stuff for the people. When Saddam was a dictator there was not 20 different militant factions fighting for power. Not saying Saddam was a good guy because he oppressed certain groups. There is documentary by BBC or NPR. One of those two. It’s called Once Upon a Time in Iraq. They captured what I saw. They captured it perfectly. The pain in the people. The betrayal from the U.S. I can’t believe we did that. I understand why they hate us. If they attack us, I would not be surprised or mad one bit. I would do the same in their position. I understand what I did was bad but it was the American people who sent me there. The Iraqis know that too. They know the American people stood idle while our politicians destroyed their country. I don’t blame the Iraqis one bit. We deserve whatever comes to us as a nation. If one day you ask yourself why? Look at Iraq and Afghanistan. You will find your answer there.

Third, think about those cases where people got r*ped, murdered, and still missing in those forts - swept under the rug. Many more factors weigh on the general that’d NOPE out a voluntary option for the military.
