Rob explains he really did not wish to imperil any live covert inquiries nor officers in the field.
But, as a journalist, he is duty bound to argue in court under the Open Justice principle. Despite arguments by Avon & Somerset Police, the prosecution and defence barristers, the judge, Mrs Justice Cutts, sided with Rob's submission.
The audio and video footage has - as per Rob's and the police's requests - been edited so we neither see Paddy nor hear his voice.
In December 2023 Darren Osment was convicted of murdering his former partner Claire Holland in 2012.
