Godzilla Vs Scylla (Test Shot)

- Hey everybody, I'm back from my brief hiatus with a test shot for my upcoming Godzilla Vs Scylla animation! For those who may not know, I will be recreating the fight between Godzilla and Scylla from the comic Godzilla Dominion, and then afterwards I will be starting the Godzilla versus Kong project with my team of amazing animators and friends.
Keep in mind that this is a test shot, so I did not polish it and make it look as good as I will in the final cut, but I've been experimenting with a ton of different techniques and if anybody is interested then just keep reading to see what I've been doing. But yeah, look forward to Godzilla versus zilla which should be out soon now that this test shot is finished and I know how the workflow will be handled, and then look forward to the Godzilla versus Kong project after.
Here are the specifics as to what I have accomplished with this test shot. I've set up most of the scenes, a lot of the scenes with humans and ships have been animated and I just have to drop in the kaiju and animate them, I bought a ton of amazing explosion assets from the pixel lab which are VDBs I will render out in blender and then composite back into my main shot with unreal engine, keep in mind the explosion here is very low quality and will look much better in the final product when they are used. I have techniques ready for the splash effects and the water effects which will come in handy, but I'm really going to focus on making the animation as great as it can be, and then focusing on high-quality renders. The water was very difficult to render as it kept crashing my PC due to how high quality it is, but I made sure to render out everything but the water as high-quality and then divide the frame up by two then render the water with a mask in low quality. This will be the technique I use as so far it's looking pretty good and I'm quite excited to get this animation going. I tried out some high resolution rendering techniques and unreal and so far it's looking pretty cool, the one thing that's been worrying me from the start has been trying to get my textures and shaders to look as good in unreal as they do in blender, so I'm definitely going to try setting up the final shadows in blender and then baking out those maps as separate textures so it can look better and unreal. With the help of my friend MISTR, I was able to rig Scylla .in a realistic way so that anything that is hard shell does not bend and that I can add shakes to places like the skin flaps in between her legs for a more realistic effect. We also have a pretty cool ring for Scylla which will come in handy when I animate it. When the animation is done I'll be sure to upload Scylla somewhere on the Internet so you guys can download it for free, and I will also do this for future projects with kaiju that I am done with. I also made sure to render the scenes without any motion blur so that I can add that back into after effects just because motion blur from two different programs will cause some weird artifacting and shots will not line up as well. I also rendered with a larger aspect ratio but it's still not exactly how I want it so I'll be sure to change that up so that the shot can take a larger portion of the screen without feeling as Letterboxed and small, because I want you to be able to taken a lot more of the action while it also does not feel like the entire screen is being taken up. Also lowered noise for the explosion in AE. But when the time comes for final shots I will definitely take my time and make sure that they are polished and look very well so that you guys can enjoy the final product more. I will also take my time with the animation so that the kaiju at least move realistically and just feel better to the eye. Not sure if that makes a whole lot of sense but I hope you get the message haha.
I won't have too much time to work on this since my school is two hours away and I commute because I'm only there three days of the week, Friday Saturday and Monday. I stay overnight from Friday to Saturday either in a motel or honestly sleeping in my car, but whenever I get a chance I make sure to animate this project while also trying to focus on my personal life such as my body or my social life. Don't get me wrong I'm definitely not asking for sympathy, but when they were these long hiatuses I just really want you guys to know what is going on and why it's taking me so long. With the Godzilla versus Kong project so far will be splitting the animation between three people which should make for a much better and easier animating experience, which should also mean it will come out sooner rather than later. Anyways that's all I got for you guys now, I hope you guys enjoyed and I really look forward to hearing feedback and how you guys would improve the set or animation. This is so cool man! I’d like if you’d make some custom sounds, because hearing Scylla make the same sound could get a bit irritating in the Final Cut, overall a very good animation just for being a test

Thanks so much, that really means a lot to me. I didn’t really focus on the animation aspect of this, rather the workflow and composting techniques. I have an animation for a client being done which should be out in several weeks and I think I got a bit better with the animation aspect and trying to capture weight, so I’m hoping that will all translate well for my next couple projects! @KingKong19100 I have a question: so when it comes into flying creatures,monsters, and animals how do I move both bones on the wings? I'm asking this because I have a hard time on how to move both bones on the wings.

My only problem is when the monsters move. You should add some splash effects. And maybe slow the monsters movements down.

If I could critique it, maybe have Scylla's leg bend/curl inward first cuz of the impact - he's tripping a leg. The back legs fly too early based on this impact. If you wanna toss Scylla, just hit her body, because tripping one leg when she has five more to spare makes it really hard to lose her footing. And then the legs will have to stretch as they're resisting the force of getting pulled off the ground. Promising stuff, though!

Thank you so much! The water was done and unreal engine using an asset I bought for like 20 bucks on the marketplace. It was so high-quality I had to tone down the resolution and render just the water as its own pass. In blender I substituted it as just a plain and replace the plane with the final water

@@Dragonite491 So that was actually something I could have added, but decided not to because it would have taken too much time for what is essentially just a test shot. In the final version I can add those in hopefully and it should look good!

Ahh man this one was taking a while to render and I had another project plus school come up! I definitely want this out during next month since there's a lot of fire and volumetrics I need to render and I just found out yesterday I can set up a render farm at my school, so I definitely want to give that a try since this week is only my second week back!

Like 60%. I have some client work to do in the meantime which halted this project. It should continue before the end of the year and hopefully come out around January.
