@@ziggyaziz2689 She was 100% right about the Catholic Church and its protection of paedophile priests but get down off your high horse about Islam. The oppression the women of Iran are going thru now thanks to that Religion is a disgrace. And its not just Iran. Its Afghanistan and lots of other Muslim countries. The Hijab is a symbol of oppression and it saddened me to see Sinead in it. But no one is perfect. ALL Religions have their ways to oppress. Islam is probably the most oppressive of all right now.

Sinead said during an interview she was fully practiced and prepared to sing something else - a cover of a Bob Dylan tune although I don't remember now which one - and so obviously her encore performance of 'War' was spontaneous, if not also simply perfect. The USA in general could not get their head around the fact she refused to sing their anthem before some gig. She would not do it. One commenter, a female I might add, was told she was abused as a child and this woman said "in her case, it was justified!". In the USA it seems that the country is an extension or, even worse, the centre of your ego so it cannot be criticised. And she did. She called out artists why they weren't more vocal and outspoken against the first Gulf war....I think she is a fantastic, strong person who does not obey to what management or anyone else tries to demand from her.

When the Catholic Church held all the power, some four hundred years ago, she would have been burned at the stake. It is incredibly disturbing to hear a crowd in the twentieth century react in that way. She spoke the truth regardless of the impact on her, because she knew what the abuse of children was actually like. I was not a fan of her music, but I have been very moved by her tragic death and the struggles she went though which few of us perhaps really appreciate. She dies an icon. I have just watched an interview with the director of a documentary about her. She said that when she premiered the documentary in Ireland, at the moment when Sinead tore up a photo of the Pope, the entire audience stood up and cheered. It is a shame that most of those at the Dylan concert, despite Dylan being himself an iconic protest singer in his youth, did not see what she was standing for and just how right she was.

She took it on the chin and threw it back at them. What a worrier. She meandered through my life from her first appearance with the Lion and the Cobra to the end. I don't have the same struggle that she did because I'm a man but my love of the sufferer's music (reggae) was probably formed similarly to hers by singing in church and love of performing. I don't claim any similarity beyond my appreciation and awe of her magnificent fearlessness displayed here with her defiant silent receipt of the crowd's ineffective disapproval. I think she was probably supposed to sing Don't Cry for Me Argentina but this raw rendition of Bob (Marley's) War shows why she was so belovéd. Stripped down emotion and honesty with no apology (exactly as she had done the week before with the Pop's picture; well he wasn't a god was he?). I was bought up catholic too but came through unscathed; It didn't make me dislike her though. You were lovely Sinéad we will remember you forever!
