That’s the culture they’re trying to normalize. “Have an unwanted pregnancy? no problem get an abortion. Married to someone u never meant to? just get a divorce. Have no money? Don’t worry the government will take care of u.” We have to be more responsible & do for ourselves. Just as an example, divorce should be the last thing done in a marriage when things get rocky NOT THE FIRST!!! as they would have you believe.

I couldn't stand Mrs. Barrett in that movie, because I know so many like her. they come up to the school chastising the teachers and the faculty, even when they know their shitty sons & daughters are troublemakers. they live in constant denial of their troubled kids behavior that they end up blaming the school system for their problems and leave the responsibility of parenting up to the teachers which takes away the teachers time and alienates other hard working students.

@@winnietheboogaloo4584 That may have been true 25 years ago when the social stigma of being on welfare was more tangible. Not today, though. Too many people are dependent on the government and feel entitled to other people's money and resources and too few want it to change.
The proof is in the pudding. Look how many people are begging for that $2000 "stimulus" check. They don't care where it comes from. They don't care that it only puts the country in a worse financial predicament than it already is in. People want "free" money. Working for money be damned.

Instead of blaming the teachers for the students problems why they're acting the way they are they should be blaming the parents because bad parents make bad children. "Don't be polite!!!" "By any means!!!" Gotta give the man credit, he was intent on IMPROVING the school, bottom line. Even Mr. Darnell, the young teacher he kinda picks on at the beginning of this film, grows to develop a mutually respectful relationship with Mr. Clark. As for the "We are not in church!!," Ms. Barrett's remark, don't matter whether in church or in school, this man was intent on making a difficult situation better. Rather than blame Mr. Clark for expelling her son, she may have considered giving some thought to how to help her son find a different path.
This is one of the few films I can watch a number of times, and not get bored.. A true inspiration...

Some of those children didn't care about education, and they are taking up space. This is what happens in the real world when you don't cut the mustard. Not to mention there are many good workers that get cut back, so why should I feel sorry for the space eaters and those who are a distraction.

"How many years does your child have to stay back for you to understand that their priority is not school? You say the kid needs help and that they deserve to stay in school, but if the child is showing they clearly do not care one bit about learning, then at that point there's nothing a teacher can do to help them. YOU have to help them as their parent, even if that requires you having to stay up late after work to make sure that they understand everything. If you are not willing to do that, well then the end result will be that your child is out in the streets, because it's not fair to students that actually WANT to learn to have to put up with their behavior and class interruptions."

But I wanted to make it on my own. I lived within my means and budgeted my money. No cell phone, no satelite, very few luxuries. But my kids had food and health insurance.

He had an insurmountable task to achieve. Most of those basic skills have been missing since their elementary school days.
Those kids he kicked out disrupted the students that wanted to learn.

My junior year, my English teacher showed us this movie. That speech got us riled up and as soon as he said "and that's why I threw these bastards out..." The bell for the next period Rang and we exploded into cheering and yelling. It was the perfect storm.
I still remember a few of my boys chanting USA, USA, Down the hall like we had just witnessed Hogan taking down the Sheik after we herd that iconic speach.
