OMG this movie was soooo good . The actor who played Emperor was incredible. I hope to see more slavery movies on the big screen. A lot of these people have been erased from history. They ALL need their stories told.
His name is Dayo Okeniyi. He is an amazing person. He is one of the nicest people that I have ever known. He has a beautiful soul. I am very proud of the man he has become.

The raid on Harpers Ferry was exaggerated for dramatic purposes. It made it seem that John Brown's anti-slavery fighters killed a bunch of the US Marines in their brave resistance. But they didn't. The reality is that only 1 Marine was killed & 1 wounded. And 8 Virginia and Maryland militia were wounded. And there were many other events that took place in the real raid that were ignored in the film, which is however understandable. Also the ending was completely fictional. In the movie the main protagonist Shields Green escapes from Harpers Ferry, then runs & escapes again from the church after being hunted by the bounty hunter & the milita, then escapes again with his son on horseback. The reality is quite different & quite depressing..."Shields Green (1836?-1859), also known as "Emperor," was an ex-slave who participated in John Brown's unsuccessful raid on Harpers Ferry. Though he had a chance to escape capture, he returned to the fighting and was captured with Brown. For their parts in the raid, Green and John A. As a history scholar, I have to be honest and point out the historical inaccuracies. However, as a movie fan, I liked the film. Anytime you watch a Hollywood historical movie, take it with a grain of salt that they will change or distort actual events for dramatic purposes. This film, although pretty good, is no exception.

I enjoyed the trailer. It is great to see Frederick Douglas portrayed in another film since he is one of the first famous Republicans with Lincoln. Shields Green is a lesser-known Republican who fought against the South and I am glad he is finally getting his props. I was not fond of the rap music though. Hope they keep the rap music out of the movie. I like what they did the with film Glory with two different soundtracks. One with the film soundtrack and the other with rap music inspired by the film. D-Nice has a great single on that album.
