My kids' school does "secret squirrel", but it's done with a series of small gifts (total budget $10, but that's only for stuff you buy - you're allowed to re-gift stuff you already have, or make things, etc.)

But i dont like to leave them out. So i just. Buy them some sweets or bubles and its just a i love you gift

You're both right. Every person's dialect is correct in their own community. Language varieties (dialects) differ based on factors like region, age, and cultural group. It's common for one of the many language varieties to be taught in school and be expected in contexts like business letters. But all the others are grammatical, too. Just different.
