- Kirk Cousins is already done in Atlanta. His new 4 year deal has been compromised with the addition of 1st Round pick Michael Penix Jr. The only positive in this move is that the Falcons will always have a QB… the question is which one and at what time? This isn’t good for Cousins in the short term and Penix Jr. in the long term.

They burned 100 million dollars (guaranteed) and a 1st round pick to create a QB controversy. Seems like their best option is to unload cousins if he's willing to agree to a trade and maybe a big pay cut. Hit mess. What is there plan for the guy they are paying 100 million?
That’s exactly my point.. they have a plan for Penix, which could be realized in 3 years time… but what’s their plan for Cousins?
They had no plan. They were so "in love" with Penix that they said, "who cares about the $100 million dollars guaranteed we just gave this guy, let's draft THIS guy". Bumbling idiots in Atlanta.

One of the dumber, more selfish moves in NFL draft history. They don't care about winning now. They don't care about the defense. They only care about the QB position. If you don't care about winning, the other offensive positions on the team, and the defense, then this move is for you.
Yes they only cared about themselves. This was a front office move… doesn’t help Kirk Cousins today or Penix Jr. today.
Your point would only make sense if you in your heart of heart believe you have a legit chance at the Super Bowl or even a NFCCG with Kirk Cousins

Well darn, i am playing the lotta on Kirk Cousins jersey number then. May as well, seem to be just about as reasonable.
Then you can’t pay Kirk Cousins 180 million, for 4 years. With 100 million guaranteed. If you don’t think he can get you there. The plan should’ve been to draft Penix at #8 all along.
@@Dbo_Sports the issue with this perspective is we are talking about people who want to keep jobs.
Two months ago they did not know Penix medicals. Or if he would be there at 8. Sitting there saying “then don’t sign cousins” would put jobs in jeopardy if you followed the Raiders strategy and end up with no Kirk cousins and no Penix.
On a video game you can simply go to the character window and see when a player comes back. In real life ya can’t do that.
They made the right choice two months ago because Kirk is a contingency plan for if you can’t get a young QB you value.
Signing him was never about winning it all. Maybe you get lucky. But the reasonable expectations was for him to keep you afloat and not the staff fired by week 11
@shankdiddy9045 This is all true… but my point was you can’t make the Cousins move then make the Penix move for social/emotional reasons. It doesn’t help Cousins or Penix. It only helps the administration. Cousins has a young monster behind him, who the fans will call on to replace him. And if Cousins does well, “the young lion” never gets to play. How does that help them? No one was drafting Penix before #8. And who do you know was paying Cousins 180 million over 4 years and also runs the West Coast Offense? It was always Atlanta. Those decisions were already made with almost no competition.
@@Dbo_Sports Not sure i totally agree on signing Kirk. What i am saying is i see the logic. If the view at the time of the signing was "hey this is the best QB on the market that can give us punchers chance"... i just feel like the chance he gives the falcons is to be decent and hover around .500... maybe get lucky in a bad NFC and get a playoff bid.
I stress, think of the time line. You don't know if Penix has robot legs 2 months ago. You don''t know if he will be there at 8. And you likely haven't gone deep enough in the draft process for the people INSIDE of the organization have gotten EVERYONE on board including owner 2 MONTHS ago... i suspect that happened after the medicals came back good and they looked at the tape again.
As far as Penix jr goes.. I ranked him 2nd because of injuries. Without the injuries I ranked him QB 1 in this draft if he didn't have the history... if it was just about play, about tape, Then it is a slam dunk Micheal Penix jr.
See he isn't perfect he is flawed in a way. And i am not calling him Dan Marino or Patrick Mahomes but if you look back at what people said about both of them it plays back as pure comedy now.
Penix jr, the only QB in the history of college football to lead two different schools from NOT ranked even in the top 50 at the start of the season. Too wins vs teams in the top 10. .....that has happened 5 times in the last 65 years. Two of those times it was Penix who engineered it. With Indiana a team who you can forget they even have football... and with Washington which before he got there was a 4 win team... same players, same recruits he convinced to stay when he arrives and takes them to 25 and 3..... 10 and 1 vs ranked teams in his career.. And all of his film matches the numbers.
Knowing what you know back two months ago you sign Cousins and hope for Penix. And it played out that way.
Mean while Kirk Cousins is 36 coming off a Achilles Rupture that BTW i literally ruptured my Achilles 2 days before Aaron Rodgers. Trust me Kirk could miss parts of training camp and all of OTA's..... Penix could literally force more questions when he is slinging the rock in practice then preseason and Kirk aint even practiced yet for his new team... gonna be kinda awkward if Penix has some big games in the preseason.... that is when the drama begins.

I coach and GM need to focus on the W and the L. The public relations team or player wives or mascot can worry about feelings and cheering people up.

That makes no sense…. Of course no one buys GM jerseys. But what GM drafts for the next administration. Do you want to be Mark Jackson or Steve Kerr? Fontenot and Morris could end up being Mark Jackson, where they helped build it but they don’t get any credit because their first move was the dumb move in the 1st place.
