How To Make Silk Taffeta Roses // No Special Tools, Just Fruit Salad!

  • It was too late to order silk flowers for this costume in time for my (okay yes, self imposed sure) deadline, so I decided to dive into a wild idea: what if I just made some myself? Thus with some scraps of the silk taffeta, some tools from the kitchen, and not enough sleep honestly, these silk roses were created into being!
The floristry wire and tape from Amazon: www.amazon.com/Paxcoo-Floral-...
    Tweezers: www.amazon.com/Scientific-Lab...
The PVA glue I had on hand that worked fine: www.talasonline.com/Jade-403
I purchased the silk taffeta from Silk Baron: www.silkbaron.com/
Silently watch me make these two roses in real time: • Silk Flowers In Real Time
Music and Sound Effects from Epidemic Sound.

But wait there's more! A PO BOX finally wahoo!
First, a disclaimer: So many of you have kindly offered to send me things, including vintage items you may have inherited, and I am so honored you would think of me and of course I do adore vintage treasures, however, unfortunately I only have so much storage space currently! So there is a chance that if something just wont work for me, or doesn't fit me etc, that I may not be able to keep all of your lovely things. Please only send things if you are okay with the possibility that I may donate items I just cannot keep. If you would prefer I put things that I can't keep into the TCH Etsy shop to help raise funds for me and the channel, please specify this in a note or letter in your parcel. Thank you so much!

Back at school during a couple of home economics lessons we used a similar technique - heated household items to shape petals) Our teacher poured some sand in a pan and we heated spoons in it.
Btw, for all the impatient people that say you talk slowly, well, they can just use this nifty feature increasing the speed of the video. Won't lie, I use it myself from time to time) One's impatience is no excuse to be rude to a creator who likely poured hours of effort into making a video 😑

I say "no" to buying fancy flower tools. Why waste your money when you (1) have things that work and (2) could get more things (i.e., ice cream scoop, large rounded serving spoon) at a thrift store, Dollar Tree, or grocery store? The money you save can go toward more silk! Plus, small pillows can easily be sewn from scraps and then stuffed with scraps, such as the bits from cutting out flower petals. The flowers you made and formed into a corsage are beautiful. I like your hat, speech pattern, and voice too!

Can you also share links to the CZcams video tutorials that you found most helpful? Finally: your voice is everything other viewers say it is - informative, calming, but I also really appreciate your precision of speech. Before I had an egg iron, I used a melon baller and ice cream scoop. And thin nose pliers (which I still use). That's actually what my millinery teacher told us to use if we didn't have tools.
One tip - if you can heat the tool over something electrical - a hot plate, or have it touching an iron for a while - it's better. Using an open flame can cause blackening of the tools, which can then transfer to the fabric. Can be a problem if you're using a lighter coloured fabric, so it's worth remembering.

Some sets even come with 2 tsp, half tablespoon, and 2 tablespoon measures (aka a coffee scoop), so if those are useful in you cooking life, you'd have a nice big set of irons to work with.

I fall into the category of people that really like your voice ❤️ it's so soothing, on nights I have trouble sleeping I'll replay your videos to help me sleep better 😊 Also, in case you need an excise to buy flower making tools, I think you should! Your flowers turned out so beautiful and if the proper tools save time imagine how amazing it would be to scraps from every project to make matching flowers! Now I want to make flowers too...

“Necessity is the mother of invention” as the old saying goes. It’s amazing what we can do when our backs are against the wall. Your flowers are lovely and I’m sure you saved a fistful of money.

Great commenting, and a nice voice indeed. English is not my first language, but I've got no challenges to understand you what so ever.
My first thought as it comes to the internet trolls is that I feel pity with those having so little to do with their lives. They somehow feel a desire to not appreciate other peoples good work, but rather try to bring it down. What a horrid experience they are turning their lives into - and with apparently no good reason what so ever!
I truly enjoy your videos and I'm learning a lot as I'm having a great time watching! Thank you!

You have a beautiful voice. I always tell my kids that people who are mean and judgmental are not happy people. They need to bring others down to make them feel better. I'm sorry that you get negative comments from unhappy people. I love your videos and your voice.

Oh how fun B. Can you believe that I actually had everything I needed to do this at home. I don't know if I should be elated, or maybe shocked in a hoarder sort of way. But I thought this was an excellent tutorial and the fact that you make it doable without having to collect scads of tools beforehand was great. Love love.

Your use of the melon-baller is brilliant! I think the barrier to a lot of niche crafts is the specialized tools that are allegedly required to do them. While “proper” tools can be really helpful and may be needed for super complex projects, it’s amazing what can be done with just a few household items!
Also, that SILK! That color is just stunning, I’m going to miss it now that this series is done.

Additionally, your rose looks very professional. Your voice and speech pattern are wonderful. They are a part of what make you unique and allow us to identify you.

The comment “out and about” , reminds me of the time I saw The Blues Brothers at a local pizza parlor about ten years ago. It was lunch and the parlor was busy when a decommissioned police car rolled up, parked in a conspicuous place and the boys rolled out complete with little hats, black suites and narrow black ties. Now my logical mind reminded me Baloshie (r his spelling could be wrong, but you know the guy I’m referring to here) was dead. Nonetheless, here he sat, calmly eating pizza in a small southern town. It was a hoot! I hope you and your Viewers have as much fun when you venture forth in one of your wonderful vintage outfits. I hope you have a friend to go with you !

I actually rush to watch your content because it is always interesting, explanations are top drawer and is always so lovely. To me your voice is soothing after a day at work. I too, speak quite fast but my voice, while "born and raised in the South", Southern, is not nearly as pleasant as yours. Whoever says you speak too fast is obviously not listening carefully enough or computer literate enough to slow it down. As a licensed teacher, who is also partially deaf, your pedagogy is as flawless as your delivery. That and a gorgeous green cicada, Gothic Victorian bustle ball gown is delicious beyond words.
