How about something like World Record for 1000 science per second base? Or 2K or 5K? some setting that would incentive a train network and city blocks . What do you think? :D
@@jancabal84 it would be fascinating. I'm no speedrunner so I have no idea what the fastest way to do a megabase would be. Come on nefrums, add this to your repetoir! Somebody would have to come up with a metric for establishing the SPM reached. Maybe over a period of time left running with no changes to the base, say, an hour. It would be a lot easier to just get the science up to a given rate for one tick because it could just come crashing down again. I think it should be sustainable. Perhaps have two categories.

This being a speed run the goal is speed. Not mega basing at 60 ups, so my assumption is he finds it easier, either not needing to make more underground pipe as its more iron and thus more time to make or if its just any extra trip to get those underground pipes. Really my point is your question feels out of place. But yeah overall its probably fine for the purposes of the speed run.

Performance is a concern only on much, much larger bases. Factorio is incredibly well optimized, but if you're playing the numbers game of maximum science per minute, you'll eventually have to consider performance. But yeah this is like 1/1000 of that scale.
You can get 1000 fluid/second through up to 200 pipe segments. The amount of oil needed for the speedrun is far under that bar, so the speed of just using mostly above ground pipes outweighs anything else.
Try a silent run, without explaining what you are doing or any regard of the correctness of what you are saying. You may shave off 10 or so seconds from your run as you are not thinking what you are saying.

I got my green circuits 3 hours into the game meanwhile this guy launched a rocket in half that time
i started a world and like 20 hours into it i finally managed to get green science completley automated. what this guy is doing is on another level.
imagine crashing into some rando planet and getting the fuck outta there an hour and half later with your own brand new rocket lmao

they ensure the assemblers dont build up an internal buffer of rcu ingredients. better to have two assemblers working than one with a full buffer

Z key drop item in hand one by one. Alternatively hold down z with coal in hand and move mouse over all miners/furnaces

Yes, I'd find this interesting. Although, I doubt city blocks would be effective for a speedrun megabase
