- This workshop was a long time coming and I am so happy it finally happened. My drum is a treasured addition to my house and lifestyle. I have not introduced it to the horses yet. That might be a seperate video. As for playing it.. that`s kinda between me and the drum for a while until it gets more natural and doesn`t take up 100% of my focus. I have never been a natural at keeping a rhythym but do enjoy getting into one.

What a beautiful drum 😍 I'm Lakota (Native American) and the drum is a very important part of our ceremonies. I made one a long time ago as a school project but it was a much smaller hand drum. The drum is the heartbeat of our Unci Maka~ Grandmother Earth. 🌎💙🌍💚🌏

Wow that turned out beautifully, The tail is an especially unique addition. Now you just need to awaken the spirit of the drum traveling to the underworld to find out its name and what it looks like, thats what I did with mine anyway haha😀

@@SigneofHorses Oh wow thats excellent, that was a realy good coarse. Its such a magical process mine actually apeared as a sort of spectral horse and a name came to me that sounded like giberish but I trusted it was correct and I found it was two old norse words that realy matched a horse. 😨😁
@@lukeandmum oh wow.. that sounds very magical! The boar for me was not at all a rational decision, still can’t explain it and don’t feel the need to. It was lovely to meet the boar family in the spirit world. It was so joyous and relaxed sharing his love for acorns and mushrooms :)

@@SigneofHorses Thats realy neat, boar is very unique choice iv never seen one made from them before making it very one of a kind. the drum hide just called to you. I think mabey I will now, id just have to think of the right video for it.

What is the dimensions of your drum frame. Circumference and depth? I want to make a drop and a drum stick to go along with my viking gear. I an Cherokee, Danish, German, Scottish. So my drum will be a part of me. I love your drum 🥁 and drumstick. It make a beautiful beat tone.
What a great project to bring together your heritage. My drum is 50 wide and 163 cm circumference including the thickness of the hide. The depth is 7 cm.

Hi! Thank you for this video. I have a tanned goat hide and hoop. I want to keep hair on the drum but shave the face. My question is can you use a tanned hide or does it have to be just cured? I have been in search of a video that will help but your video is the closest to what I am looking for. Thank you for your time.
Hi there, I hope I can help out. I don’t quite know the difference between tanned and cured. The hides we used came straight from the butchers and we only cleaned the of fat.
The boar hide was older and dried so I had to soak it a lot before it was soft enough.
Tanned is when it’s had another step towards leather right? You want it to be soft when wet and shrink and go rigid when dry. When your goat hide is soft and flexible when dry then I do not think it can be used to make a drum.
I am not an expert but I hope this helps.

Hello Signe, I Was Just watching this one again, Because I just love Working with hides and Animal flesh, You look like your having a blast, It ties me to nature in a way I can't really explain. Just had a funny thought, since you Love disney 🎶 music so much, " And you sing quite well" you should call your Drum Pumbaa. Lol from the Lion king. Whoa shoes! You going for it! This was my first time with a hide and it felt natural like you said. I’m thankful I could give this boar a second life as a drum ( pumbaa would indeed be hilarious 😂) Best of luck on those turn shoes!

When I was Watching your Unbelievably Gorgeous Vikingr Garments, "Your Black Frankish dress, 3 other dresses, gnarly shield, and Killer weapons" you Mentioned you Tablet or Card Weaved, and know how to do it but, havent done it in a While. I would be beside myself to have a tablet weave belt made by Signe of Signe of Horses. I would be more than Happy to paypal you for your time and efforts, the pattern would be up to you, there would be No time restraints on when its completed. I would honestly just be smitten to have a waist belt 70" long or so. I think thats roughly 170cm. Please Just think about it. I know its alot to ask, but Im Bold hah. Gosh it has been a hundred years since I did any tablet weaving and I wouldn’t even know where to begin. I get my weaves from other vikings now who are way better at it and practise on a daily basis. I would much rather you send your hard earned money their way and get yourself the fabulous belt you deserve. Check out svetlonoska_weaving on Instagram she has a shop with wonderful belts! My red gokstad belt came from krikas_tabletweaving on Instagram. She has an Etsy shop and takes commissions.
