  • It was a hot day for a 4K walking tour through the historic centre of Gympie. The town used to be known as Nashville and was established in 1867. It has a population of over 20,000 people and has a number of historic buildings.
The 4K walking tour, whilst hot, was very interesting and takes place mostly in the town's main street, Mary Street.
After the walk, I popped into one of the pubs for a nice cold beer.

Thank you so much for your filming! I've been to St.Pats College, Gympie, as a short term study abroad for more than 10 years ago, and this reminds me some amazing moments I experienced. 🇦🇺 🇯🇵

This was interesting to watch, thank you! I grew up in New Zealand, but every summer holiday when I was growing up we went to stay in Gympie to visit my grandmother who lived there. I have lots of good memories of Gympie. I remember there used to be a cafe on Mary St called "Patricks" that I liked (this was about 30 years ago now!). I didn't know Gympie used to be called Nashville! :)

Thank you for this. It was the first time I’d been to Gympie and I wanted to walk amongst the old buildings in the town centre. I’m glad you enjoyed watching and that it formed part of your research.

At the start of the video, it showed a hill. We used to live at the top of it, across from the church/school. Appropriately named, Church St. Hasn't changed at all in the 6 years since we left.

Yes it really is a lovely town, it's got a great small town feel. I did a long trip in December and recorded a lot of walks and this was one of the first ones I did. Thank you for watching, happy you enjoyed seeing a little bit of Gympie. 👍

Lived here for 20 years and the place has been over run with sotherners and good farming land ia being cut up to build houses to houses these people. Almost every home owner owns a caravan and they are some of the rudest people you could ask to ever meet. Just trying to find a real gympie local is almost impossible. One that was born and raised here and are in there 70s so you can learn a thing or two about the town. I know more than most of the people i speak to. You meet these new to town people and they dont want to know about the nice places to visit around gympie. A lot of those are people from the aunshine coast and work there and live here, so i guess seeing the beautiful lookouts etc don't interest them. Then theres the caravan owners from sydney and victoria etc. They dont bother visting our local attractions. They would rather visit elsewhere. Gympie has gottwn too big to fast and the infrastructure isnt up to speed. A population cap is needed before it gets out of hand.

You only considering people who have been there for 54 years as locals might be the problem....
