The NBA has been around since 1946. Over the years, we have seen some unbelievable individual seasons by all-time great players. In an effort to reward these performances and distinguish the best from each particular season, following the 1955-1956 season, the NBA began handing out an annual MVP award, also known as the Maurice Podoloff Trophy. Just as there have been debates and controversy surrounding this award in various seasons, such as Steve Nash winning it over Kobe Bryant in 2006, people have also disagreed about which of those MVP seasons stood out above the rest. Let’s settle the debate once and for all and answer who had the greatest single season ever.

@@LaneyHoops umm bill didn't just have all stars he had first ballet hof in thier fucking primes, it may seem like wilt played with equal amount of all star but this 100 percent bs, wilt played with all star that were either just starting out or at the end of thier career, meanwhile bill russel played with these players in thier primes. The lakers 1969 loss was completely outside of Wilts control. In the final minutes of a game his coach refused to put him in which ultimately cost them the game and I'm pretty sure he broke his knee this season? Wilt has never in his career played with more hof in thier primes then russel in the same season and yet he was able to overcome russel in 1967 which I argue was his greatest season. While 1962 was his greatest regular season. This equal all star nonsense is absolutely false.

Almost a triple double with 20 in 2 stats! Plus he beat Russel's Celtics...nobody else can say they did that when Bill played the whole series.Kind of an unusual choice compared to his statistically insane years but this was the year he got that championship and showed he could dominate in a way that's conducive to winning.

These are some great picks of greatest seasons. You left out Hakeem's 1994 season too. But it depends on what criteria you use. There are at least three seasons of Wilt Chamberlain's career that have to be mentioned. There are others as well, but here are my picks for honorable mention.
    Year 1959-60
1960 All-Star Game Most Valuable Player
    Regular Season MVP
    Rookie of the Year
8 NBA records were broken that year -1959-60
    League leading 37.6 ppg
    League leading 27.0 rpg
    2.3 apg
Advanced to the second round in the 1960 playoffs
    Year 1966-1967
    1966-1967 Regular Season MVP
Wilt led his 76ers team in all three categories of points, rebounds and assists
    24.1 ppg
    24.2 rpg
    7.8 apg
    League leading fg% of 68.3%
New NBA win-loss record of 68-13
    1967 NBA Championship
    Year 1971-1972
Was Team captain of the LA Lakers
    33-game win streak (still unbroken)
    League leading fg% of 64.9%
New NBA win-loss record of 69-13
    1972 Finals MVP
    1972 NBA Championship

Michael Jordans 1988, 1989, and 1990 seasons are all definitely top 5 all time. Especially 1988, bro was on another planet that year, good thing he won MVP. Only other seasons I would compare to that are Shaq in 2000 and maybe Robinson in '94, MJ was just way to dominant too even be a real human being.

No player ever matched Wilt's rookie yr. in their whole career, Wilt should have been allowed into the NBA 6 years sooner like Lebron did, his records would be double of his already 72 still today, Wilt needed to play the regular season so great to make the NBA succeed, no one knew who Bill Russell was, but they all watched to see The Big Dipper.
