  • "Dreams are a reservoir of knowledge and experience,
Yet they are often overlooked as a vehicle for exploring reality."
    Tenzin Wangyal Rinpoche
Introduction: Tibetan Buddhism and the Bön Tradition
Tibetan Buddhism is a branch of Mahayana Buddhism that emerged in Tibet in the 7th century.
It incorporates elements of the Indian tantric practices and the indigenous Tibetan shamanistic
and animistic traditions called Bön. One of the unique features of Tibetan Buddhism is its
comprehensive system of practices designed to achieve spiritual awakening and enlightenment,
    which includes dream yoga.
Tibetan Dream Yoga is a spiritual practice that aims to explore the nature of reality,
consciousness, and the self through lucid dreaming and dream exploration. It is an ancient
practice that dates back to the time of the Bön tradition, the indigenous spiritual tradition of
Tibet. In dream yoga, practitioners train themselves to become aware of their dreams and to
maintain lucidity while dreaming, allowing them to explore their inner worlds and gain insights
into the nature of reality and the mind.
    Dream Yoga: The Five Stages
The practice of dream yoga is divided into five main stages, each designed to help the
practitioner develop skills necessary for lucid dreaming and spiritual awakening.

Interestingly, the oldest continual culture on Earth, the Australian Aborigines, requires adolescent males to be able to lucid dream before they can be considered adult men. For the Australian Aborigine, the reality we see around us is not our "dreaming." It is the dreaming of the primal energies which they call the Ancestors. Therefore, it is important to interfere and change this world as little as possible. One of the reasons that Indigenous Australians have been able to exist and maintain their environment for over 70,000 years! (while Western scientific culture has despoiled and poisoned the Earth in less than 200 years!) However, for Aborigines, lucid dreaming proves that one's dream state is a person's actual reality because within that state while lucid dreaming, one has complete control and volition over that world in ways that are not possible in the waking state. Carl Jung was obsessed with the Australian Aborigine and said that no other culture spent more time entering into the (in Jung's words) Collective Unconscious (and they did it exclusively through art! Song, poetry, dance, music, chants). Jung said it is as if they swapped the waking and dream states as reality. Imagine if instead of being awake two-thirds of your life, you were instead in the dream state for two-thirds and in the waking world for only one-third. What then would you consider the "real" state? The cosmology and spiritual understandings of this oldest culture on Earth are profound. Their spiritual cycles and historical ages & eras exceed those of the Yugas of the Indian Vedas. Many of them are cycles of time that complete with the the cycle of the Milky Way through the universe over millions of years!!

I clearly remember around the age of 10 knowing that the dream world was real but that I couldn't tell anyone or I would be considered crazy.
I lost that belief until discovering non-duality 7 years ago.
I have often gone back into dreams that were troubling like I was being chased or something else frightening that was troubling when I woke up. I have gone back with a weapon or two big guard dogs or found a secret passage etc.
Once I go back in I am no longer lucid, but when I wake back up, of remembered they have a more satisfying ending.
      I want to learn this.
The aboriginies are fascinating. Thank you🙏🏻

Are you sure about the Yugas, Matt? Yugas and Kalpas span trillions of years and are mind boggling...and these are mentioned in successive texts over the ages and realised masters like Yukteswar Giri and others have confirmed it.
I quote Wiki: A Yuga Cycle (a.k.a. chatur yuga, maha yuga, etc.) is a cyclic age (epoch) in Hindu cosmology. Each cycle lasts for 4,320,000 years (12,000 divine years[a]) and repeats four yugas (world ages): Krita (Satya) Yuga, Treta Yuga, Dvapara Yuga, and Kali Yuga.[4]
As a Yuga Cycle progresses through the four yugas, each yuga's length and humanity's general moral and physical state within each yuga decrease by one-fourth. Kali Yuga, which lasts for 432,000 years, is believed to have started in 3102 BCE.[5][6] Near the end of Kali Yuga, when virtues are at their worst, a cataclysm and a re-establishment of dharma occur to usher in the next cycle's Krita (Satya) Yuga, prophesied to occur by Kalki.[7]
There are 71 Yuga Cycles in a manvantara (age of Manu) and 1,000 Yuga Cycles in a kalpa (just a single day of Brahma).[6]🤗

Rigorous practice of lucid dream work can be a profoundly rewarding experience and field of insight. It's important to be aware that certain depths of lucid practice can raise the attention and engagement of unfamiliar and uncomfortable phenomena. On the tail end of over two years working with that modality I was confronted with three days of acute poltergeist activity in my waking state that was witnessed by others. I had no teacher or experienced practitioners to guide me through that situation and as a result put my practice on hold indefinitely. I'd like to pick it up again at some point, when the time is right.

Mmm, I know this sounds a little contradictory to the video but my experience of lucid dreaming providing more restful sleep is the complete opposite. I am 56yrs old and have been lucid dreaming since I was very young. When talking to others about it, I realised that it was not very common at all. As I got older and more conscious of my general sleep quality I began to realise that lucid dreaming can make you feel a bit foggy headed the next day. This makes sense. If REM sleep is a way of cleaning toxins out of the brain and processing the days information you wonder if lucid is hindering that process?
Over the years I practiced flying and have become pretty good at it. Initially flying was very hard work in my dreams but it got easier as I became more conscious in my dreams. Controlling the dream environment is difficult. I find I can control some things in a dream but changing the dream environment into something I want has rarely been successful. I have a lot more information and some tips. If you have any questions just ask and and I'll try to answer them.

I am 58, and agree that it is probably NOT desirable to LD too much (not that I am likely to have that problem!) from a physiological/health standpoint. We sort of had to start from scratch, no? I never even heard the expression ''lucid dreaming'' until the early 2000's, but had proto lucidity experiences (as a way of dealing with childhood nightmares). It was around 1980, that I encountered a passage in Casteneda's Separate Reality (using one's hands as a ''reality check'' ), that gave me the idea that I wasn't ''alone'' and that these experiences could be cultivated. A passage from Nietzsche's Birth of Tragedy confirmed that ''knowing one is dreaming'' was, indeed, a real phenomenon. Later I heard about Aust. Aboriginal Dream Time and after seeing The Matrix (the flying sequence), the experiences became more profound, frequent, and I further evolved my methods. Young people, should not get frustrated and should revel in this Golden Age of (Western) LDing. I must admit I'm a little jealous of the VAST amount of material available to them, yet also very proud that I found this wonderful path on my own! Always great to hear of the parallel experiences of others of our generation, who had to blaze their own trail!

I started to read and try to cultivate this technique because I've been dealing with chronic pain for years. At this point I feel like lucid dreaming might be one of the few hopes I have to understand and heal this invisible and ever shifting condition. My issue is that, for me, it could be especially difficult considering the pain medications I have to take daily. I've been seriously wondering myself if I should take the risk and leave medication in order to cultivate this state with no obstacles in the way. even with the medication I'm currently taking, I'm in no shape to do any sort of job to support myself. So... I don't know. Anyway I'm still working on my dream recall trying to register every dream or fragment I can. With little more than a month's work I've only been able to have one lucid dream on which I couldn't do much. I want to believe this will continue to improve despite the medication in my system.

I am able to lucid dream quite frequently. When I tried meditating in a lucid dream, it was incredibly powerful but also a bit scary - as if I have taken a powerful psychoactive drug.
I have done this multiple times, and each time I become scared that I’m going to go too deep, or that I will have a kundalini awakening that I’m not ready for. I also find my hands automatically doing yoga poses or mudras, though I am not a Hindu and have no real knowledge of these things. I wish I could find some guidance, as I would like to pursue this much further, but each time I try, I abandon the meditation because it is too powerful).

Through many meditations and starting yoga I've personally encountered Lord Shiva Lord Buddha Yeshua/Christ and felt the eternal presence and energy of Lord Krishna. Was raised in a Christian family but it never made full sense to me. Sanatan Dharma is the oldest form of spirituality where all current cultures languages and modern religions and derived from. It's the only one with tangible evidence to prove it as reality and the truth. The many Hindu temples that have stood the test of time for thousands of years, many advanced architecture, the vedic scriptures with vast knowledge even about our universe solar system and space. The seven ancient rishis mapped out the solar system knew the distance from sun to earth many high advanced pieces of knowledge without the same modern equipment they did it by delving into the self and unlocking astral projection and freeing the soul from the body. Yogis have been seen performing miracles like creating manifesting objects or of thin air, levitation, telekinesis, clairvoyance, teleportation, manifesting and unanimously the body at will, extremely long life spans hundreds of years, and many more powers that are unlocked after becoming Krishna conscious. I’m just an ordinary guy. I’ve had vivid, scary realistic dreams every single night. I can always remember them because they feel so real. Sometimes I confuse dreams with memories. I haven’t practiced anything like this, it’s just how my mind works. I’ve had “hallucinations” as I wake and as I fall asleep, to me it feels like I’m dreaming while awake. Sometimes after waking up, I will feel like I’m still dreaming, things feel unreal and strange, sometimes for hours.
    What does this mean?

    • @VittoShulman
      @VittoShulman Před rokem +1

Keep exploring your dreams sleeping and waking. You have many dreams because your mind is - clinging to something, trying to get or get rid of something.
Eventually after your mind purifies and realizes everything happening in sleep and wake is its own creation and not worth clinging to - it will stop. It will be like empty dream - just light. This is your real nuture, Buddha nature etc.
The end goal in waking state - your imagination-dream should be the same as reality.
To speed up the process develop compation, calm and stillness - do it by dreaming how you go to church, praying or practicing meditation. Visualize you sitting infront of Buddha or anyothe saintly being you want to talk or become alike.
In some traditions they visualize doing prostrations in front of the Buddha sitting under a tree and do it alot many thousands of times all in dream until mind just fixes in it.
Try that. Nothing will happen unless you put effort and practice.
PS: read books by Tenzeal Renpoche he is mentioned in the video.

Sounds like you might be having having false awakenings(hallucinating after waking) I occasionally have these.sleep paralysis which happens as you fall asleep causes hallucinations and can be very scary because your paralysed during this. Meditation would be extremely beneficial to you because if you can be relaxed in these states then you can turn these negative experiences into positive ones, particularly with sleep paralysis whatever emotion you feel manifests the types of hallucinations fear results in fearful experiences and so on (just like how dreams work). I learnt to lucid dream through vivid nightmares, initially I learnt how to wake up from scary nightmares and then I realised I had a state of consciousness before I woke up and the dreams seemed less scary because of this so I could change them. Lucid dreaming by dr Clare Johnson would be very beneficial for you, hope this helps

It momentarily halted to look at me, possibly to ascertain whether I was a threat or not.
I slowly closed my closet door, allowing it to carry on with what it was previously doing, digging in the soil.
Only its back part was partially coiled while the front half carried on with digging.
A few seconds later, it moved into my bedroom, where it walked along the top of my portable radiator.
It disappeared into its cracks where I couldn't find it even with a flashlight.
Although I felt apprehensive, meeting this creature, there was no fear.
    Edit:
On the mornings of September 1st and 2nd of 2017 Sri Yukteswar, an Indian Guru that I knew nothing about until the morning after his second visit, appeared to me in identical dreams dressed as a modern-day schoolteacher.
Since then I've been visited by his disciple Yogananda three separate times from once in August of 2018 and when russia invaded Ukraine and when Turkey had their earthquake.

I DON’T get the all this and that bout liberation and everything in between in Hinduism an the other major eastern religions. Then u have the people who experience NDE tells u a hole completely different story bout death liberation an so forth. Hinduism in particular which I am a devout believer in makes u feel like u have to do a gazillion things for liberation and the NDE experiencer tells u u need not do anything.. wat the hell man.. the stupid thing is i believe BOTH!!! Shrugging me shoulders!!!
