One of the most impressive things about early MCU was that they were able to generate 3 banger movies a year. For the most part even the worst movies were “just ok.” Cutting down on volume cuts down on audience retention. They just need to do 3 good movies a year and no cheap streaming shows.

Can you give us an example of this switch we could all look up. As far as I know one group of media critics(who are not fans) think whole genre is played out and mainstream normie audiences have moved on just like they did with the Western and the Musical. There is a second take by fans not media critics who still believe in the genre but complain about the poor content(She Hulk), ill judged content(Moon Knight) and agenda driven messaging ( derails every single project since Capt Marvel). They want better films and not quickly churned out dross written by activists. Conflating two different takes from two different groups.

@@raymondsmith6870I watch this TJCS CZcams show faithfully and have interacted with many of the subscribers. Whenever a question about “comic book/superhero fatigue” would be asked every other person would have mixed opinions. The host would tell us that it’s a myth, but bad movie fatigue is what it actually is. Every time Marvel puts out something bad, fatigue; every time Marvel puts out something good, MCU is back.
So when I hear or read threads on other platforms denouncing that there was never “comic book/superhero fatigue” and that it was bad movie fatigue I scratch the record player on the switch of that narrative. I agree somewhat. I don't think preachiness or fatigue are necessarily the major issue (though both are there) Trying to do the Infinity Saga over again was a mistake. Pulling that off once was incredible. Chances of doing it again... slim. If they had focused more now on individual stories in a shared universe it would have been much smoother over one big crossover in my opinion. Also would have helped get out of Cap and Tony's shadows. I think that was the biggest issue IMO. Plus keeping up with every movie was easy enough but throwing in shows too was messy.

They were something that people looked forward to. I long for the days when a superhero movie came out that I actually look forward to. Superhero fatigue is bullshit. Bad movie making is what people hate. I love movies and I go to the theater to see movies and I buy movies on DVD because I want to escape the bullshit of reality, I want something that is going to, make me happy, make me forget how fucked up the world is. Comic book movies used to be those for me. This is not what is happening these days. I never thought I would say this, but, I am too old for this world. And I don’t think I wanna live in this world anymore. Movies used to be something that made me happy, and at the end of the week I could go on a Friday night to a theater and enjoy just some escapism nonsense, that’s not happening anymore. And I’m fucking tired of it. Keep doing what you’re doing young lady.I like how you call attention to all the bullshit and the nonsense, and you should disregard any bad comments you receive. While some may object to the "messaging" in certain properties, it's unlikely this would have much of an impact on viewership; your average moviegoer doesn't care if a movie is "woke." That sort of concern is solely the bailiwick of a vocal minority of CZcams CHUDs.
Evidence: Captain Marvel is one of the movies that gets hit with these accusations the most, and that movie made like half a billion dollars. The Batman race-swapped two major characters, and that one made a mint as well.
The latest Marvel movie used to be appointment viewing, and now it's not anymore. In Phase III Marvel became the movie franchise equivalent of a watercooler show -- with viewers eager to watch and discuss the latest "episode" -- and after almost two years of no new movies coming out, a shift from 2-hr movies debuting in theaters to six-hour shows coming out on streaming, and an ongoing storyline that's failed to capture the public's imagination, the spell is broken. It's not hard to understand.
Now people are being more selective and only watching the content that individuallly appeals to them.

Like, You can have a diverse cast and have a successful film/tv show. I know a popular trait amongst youtube film channels is to blame dei for a tv show's or films failure, but it ultimately comes from how its written. Look at shows like Hazbin Hotel or Owl House, which had such diverse or "woke" (i hate saying that word, its just a buzzword these days) and unique characters/storylines. They found success not necessarily because of diversity alone, but also because the characters were so compelling and well written.

That's normal though, there has been so many of them for the last 14 years or so, the Superhero genre just needs to take a break for about 5 to 10 years or so, doesn't mean there can't be a few every now and then but a break is needed, the general audience is getting a bit tired of them.

The true problem is that Marvel got greedy by insisting on creating three movies for every character, especially characters that were not as relevant to the Avengers finale, mainly characters, who, in their comic book form were "D-list" characters at best, like: Captain Marvel , Ant Man, and Guardian's of the Galaxy (of which Drax and Gamora were originally part of Adam Warlocks Infinity Watch - not Star Lord's sidekicks). They should have made one Ant Man, one Captain Marvel, and one Guardians movie, instead of flooding the screens with watered down movies that only served to dilute the MCU for a little extra coin - which now is hurting them.

    Great video and great take.
They say superhero fatigue, I say what an excuse. What Marvel needs to do is listen to their fan base and stop releasing things filled with nonsense that no one wants.

The fact of the matter is, only few superhero characters have a solid fanbase. Superheroes like superman, ironman, capt america, and all the major ones always have a place with their fanbase.
Having said that, IMO the biggest mistake MCU made is forcing all of those superheroes into one massive ludicrous universe.
They shouldve made different universe for different superhero. Forget the collaboration such as avengers and the likes and just focus on a single superhero character per movie like in the comics. This way, the writer can focus on a good story without having to worry about the implications of the story to another character in the same universe.

Honestly I feel like 2 movies a year and 1 show feel more better for quality. Like have the two movies released during the beginning of the year and another during the end of the year. Then have a show fill in the summer, even have a few non mcu shows if they need some more stuff

Your absolutely right. The writings been horrible. They're more concerned about pc.Casting instead of accurate casting. And pushing some kind of agenda instead of just telling the story that was meant for the character. We have decades of comic book stories to be told on live screen and yethey don't care, It's like they tell their fans to shut up and sit down. We'll tell you what you like.
My favorite character of all time is captain was excited that he was finally gonna be on the big screen, but only to be majorly disappointed by terrible writing and I'm converting him into a Shazam character. That's a child trapped in a man's body. That's not captain marvel and that's not why people love the character. Thank God he's more back to that character and known as the captain now.But those last 2 Shazam movies were absolutely horrible. They had no idea who that character is.
A lot of these studios have a horrible tendency to not listening to the fans.

Superhero stuff seems to be going back to only the most popular characters. that's not a good thing. I like when they roll the dice on obscure characters like GOTG.

the problem for me wasn't a message or agenda, because the MCU has been super faithful to the comics, but lack of focus. i understand that phase 4 was mainly introducing new characters & dealing with the fallout of infinity war & endgame but they had the opportunity to sew together all the disparate narratives with a few larger ones & they just didn't. instead they just opened the faucet & tried to drown us in content & though it seems there were indeed casualties, at least they've come out & admitted they failed & told us their plan to make it better. how often does THAT happen in this (or any similar) industry? i feel like every time that happened in the DCEU they just doubled or tripled down... 🤣 #dcpeeyew

I can see both sides of this debate. I do believe that superhero movie fatigue is a real thing depending on who you are but I also believe it’s linked to the quality of content we’re getting. To just straight up say that the fatigue isn’t a thing at all or that it’s a myth, though, is disingenuous. Because for a lot of people they really are just tired of so many superhero movies coming out. Especially for the MCU because with the MCU it really is one giant story that you have to follow along with which essentially forces you to watch every project they have coming out. And on top of that, aside from a few good projects, most of them nowadays feel the same and generic. It’s still formulaic like the MCU has always been but the formula used to work and the worst movie from phases 1-3 was still at least just ok. What Iger is doing with cutting down on projects is smart and could be the first step into making sure we get quality over quantity in terms of projects. Because that’s been part of the problem tbh. It’s not like he’s completely oblivious. I think he’s also aware of the wokeness issue and even mentioned it without explicitly mentioning it. I do find it funny though how the narrative kind of flipped over time lol. It used to be “stop giving us so many projects, the product is getting watered down and stale” to “superhero movie fatigue isn’t real and it was never about the amount of projects. It’s about the quality of them”. Or maybe that also just comes down to who you ask.

I've been saying this 'fatigue' is bullshit literally since it first began with 'Star Wars Fatigue' - I called it bullshit then, got a lot of heat for it online. It's about quality - if you don't know how to make quality, it doesn't matter how much you're putting out. BY THE WAY: Bob Iger literally did the exact same with Star Wars - they 'cut back'. The quality hasn't exactly changed, and they haven't had a single movie since.

3 movies per year is LESS?! LOL. I remember when you'd get 1 movie in a franchise every few years at most.
