Those CG scenes in Trilogy looked amazing for the ps1 era. The way the headlights on the car highlight the rain 👌

Speaking of Aliens games, why not revive "mod corner" with ALIENS: ERADICATION TC? It's a really awesome mod for classic Doom with multiple campaigns, missions and overall really good.
I've been playing that recently, it's so good
Enjoying Aliens Eradication. I just need to figure out how to turn off the camera bobbing when I walk.
@@jpcarsmedia you have to really search through what seem like endless settings in the menus but it's possible

In the interview for Resurrection, I'm pretty sure they're not defending the difficulty. Rather, they're explaining how they fucked up. How they forgot to design it for people who didn't help build it.
Fantastic video regardless of my little nitpick there, though.
Which makes sense. Devs spend so much time with the game themselves that they'll naturally learn & memorize everything without trying. They already know every ambush that's going to happen or wherever any ammo is secretly stockpiled. So of course it appears really easy and they crank the difficulty to compensate. Only now it's uber-hard for any normal person going in for the first time.
I remember playing Alien Trilogy on the Saturn and loving it. Still play it on my PS3 to this day.
I remember how goddamn hard Resurrection was! Even if I play it now, the difficulty spike starting from Distephano's level was insane.
Those pixelated face huggers are still the most scariest thing I’ve seen in a game
Honestly, I think that's the problem with most Alien games and especially these days. They have the very unfortunate position of having to be compared to AvP 1 and 2 now. "Yeah, this game looks great, but why should I play it over AvP?"
I get the same thing with a lot of FPS games. After finishing the single player campaign I'm left wondering "This was great, but why would I play this when I can play Quake II or Half-Life?"
@@chrisbingley I'm getting that over Doom Eternal and 2016. It use to be quake and blood, but doom 2016 and eternal are just the best modern fps games.
I wouldn't call it unfortunate personally, in fact these new devs have so much more to utilize in terms of resources and technology... there really is no excuse for why the alien/predator games suck ass/look like ass these days (same could also be said for basically any AAA title today). Longer campaigns, better content, MORE content, no endless patches, and even harsher deadlines than the ones currently imposed on dev companies right now "Sorry the game is like getting delayed rawr xD another 2 years maybe"
@@JKeltTV To each their own, but I find the Bethesda Doom games to be boring af. I think Half Life: Alyx is the first game in more than a decade that's really re-defined what an FPS game should be to me.
@@Skrenja I'll agree that the new doom games didn't bring anything new, but imo they truly mastered the element of what made the original dooms and retro shooters good. I can see why you would think the new dooms would be boring, but in my eyes I can also say the same things for the original dooms. But like you said to each their own. Also I just wanna say Bethesda didn't make the new dooms, just published. They're still IDs dooms, not Bethesdas
Alien trilogy has one of the best soundtracks ive ever heard in my life. I think i've had the majority of the tracks completely in my head every note for the last 20 years. Even the intro music is just fantastic.

*Alien Trilogy had an absolutely fantastic soundtrack.*
Pretty much the only good thing about it.
@@ShadowAngel-lt8nwNah, it’s an atmospheric, horror shooter classic.
As someone who grew up in the 90s, xenomorphs were terrifying; Alien Trilogy definitely nailed it.
I'd love to see you review Aliens Eradication. It's like the sequel this game deserved albeit as a well developed Doom II mod
I have it too it’s a great game
That opinion about health kits and the example of silent hill is absolutely spot on, I remember playing through silent hill 2 and the whole way through I felt like I was barely scraping by on health and ammo but surely enough I was always able to find literally JUST enough to get passed the next area.
Silent Hill 2 have an overabundance of items. Even playing on hard difficulty you wouldn't have much ammo and health problems until final area of the game. Now Silent Hill 3 is a different story. It has so little, you can basically screw yourself up right at the end of the game.
@@Deimos_Fresh really? I suppose it all depends on your playstyle doesn't it, I know you're not supposed to in games like silent hill or resident evil but I'm the sort of guy that always has to kill every enemy I encounter so I always run short on supplies
@@mattyl9299, from my old experience playing on normal. I did kill everything back then as well, but mostly in close combat. Just recently I decided to replay the game in a light speedrun style on hard difficulty. In short I had very little focus on collecting items, so there was just enough recourses up to hospital. After hospital I had just too much of everything, except for rifle ammo, but even that little amount was enough to deal with final bosses.
@@Deimos_Fresh cool man, sounds like your pretty good at the game, when I played it it was my first time ever playing a silent hill game or a game of that particular genre, hence the needing everything the game could offer
@@mattyl9299, makes sense. I did have a prior experience with original Silent Hill, which is a harder game compared to SH2, I also experienced other classics like Resident Evil and Alone in the Dark, so my entering point with Silent Hill 2 was very smooth.
Ah yes. Alien Resurrection. The game with the "terrifying" analog controls according to gamespot back in the day. Hehe imagine being the person that wrote that review.
Bet they play inverted now
I found the idea of playing FPS games with a mouse and keyboard very intimidating when the original Quake came out
The controls are horrible. People are under the impression that it has an intuitive control scheme but it doesn't.
10:06 I get your point, its not a canon-accurate way to handle facehuggers but I think an action game with instakill facehuggers would be annoying as balls.
*laughs in AVP*
It’s like that in every alien game I’ve ever played. Of course, they’re also rarely used in those.
I didn't really have this problem with Alien: Isolation and the Aliens: Eradication TC for Doom. That's probably because in both, you have a motion tracker and the facehuggers would screech before coming at you. So there's some advance warning to prevent you from getting killed by them.
Without either the tracker or the screech, though, yeah, I wouldn't be having a fun time.
Instakill huggers are the norm.
Absolutely spamming huggers out of every box, nook and cranny is not.
This is the definitive retrospective my friend. I always thought Trilogy was underrated and one of the best console shooters to come out when it did.
I remember coming home super baked and being really excited to play Aliens: Colonial Marines. I proceeded to be really confused and ended up staring at the screen wondering why the game had graphics from 2002.
Game had so much promise, they really fked up with that one. 😂😭
I reinstalled that this week and played it for maybe 20 mins before I said fuck it and just installed Aliens vs Predator 2010. That marine campaign is 10x better than all of Colonial Marnies.
I like how when you ADS in that game it actually shoots to the left of where your sight is.
😂
Baked? So stoned after having a big session with your mates! lol
Bro, the soundtrack to Alien Trilogy. Groovy af.
Kinda reminds me of Depeche mode
Alien resurrection is such an incredible looking game for its time, it still impresses me to this day. The sound is also really well made and adds to the overall atmosphere.
Its a game I played a lot as a kid but never finished because it was fecking hard (I had to resort to cheats) and because it spooked my socks off.
Its weird thinking back on it, me and my brother would run circles around MoH and MoH underground on playstation, but Alien Resurrection would kick both of our asses.
I still have the physical copy of it kicking around somewhere, could be fun to emulate it.
Alien trilogy was amazing. I loved that game. It was scary and it felt like Aliens!
Alien Resurrection was honestly before it’s time. I remember when using the right stick to look was weird to me. But I enjoyed what it tried to do!
Stephen Root. Not just a great character actor, but amazing composer as well!
You've got to admit, Gman, the Aliens battle theme's got style.
Also, Gormen's pistol is the H&K VP70. The same pistol that Leon Kennedy uses in RE2. A handgun that I've been wanting since I was kid.
@Stefano Pavone
I've heard the trigger feels like firing a staple gun.
A couple friends have the vp70. Not too hard to find. Just keep looking.
If you add the special handle in the back it I think it has a three burst shot.
@Stefano Pavone and that's the version you should own the best version.
Did you get it
His reviews are getting longer. Im expecting 1 hour deepdive of some obscure fps in a year or so.
Well it's about 3 games, so of course the video is longer than usual 🤷
He’s going to start analyzing the every pixel for deep societal messages hidden in the game.
Smiling CG Ripley is probably the most cursed face app smile cover art I've seen from you so far lol
Civvie11 also said Alien: Resurrection was also said it was "one of the most cruel, sadistic games he's ever played." He made a great video on it.
33:07 someone for god sake, if this game is remade make a mod adding the sound of sideshow bob hitting the rake when a face hugger hug you, that was brilliant
Alien trilogy was amazing and held the atmosphere of the movies fully. One of my best ps1 experiences.
Not only do your videos rule but you understand the beauty of The Exorcist III. Awesome.
The soundtrack to this game is a MASTERPIECE.
I still listen to this game soundtrack from time to time. Very atmospheric.
Amazing how Acclaim Entertainment was able to make this game along with Die Hard Trilogy the same year.
Stephen Root did set the tone with those games.
Also, the second episode of Duke Nukem 3D, the addition of Protozoid Slimer was a homage to the facehugger of Alien Trilogy.
*How I miss Acclaim so much.* 😭
@General Grievous The Galactic Hero That was developed by Iguana Entertainment; Stephen Root wasn't apart of that subdivision team.
Protip for Resurrection: Use 1 shotgun shot on the alien(s) then switch to the pulse rifle and aim for the upper body/head, it only takes a few bullets and you'll save a load of ammo.
Quick switch, ala doom eternal
@@SuzukiRiderlv426 is it 'ala' or 'a la'?
@@bacondingo The second one.
I've seen so much gameplay footage of people who do things like hold full auto while aiming at the alien's feet, or burn an entire laser clip to kill 2 aliens when it's possible to kill them both using less than a quarter of the clip.
In addition to your shotgun trick excellent shotgun tip, I have a couple of my own.
1. Aim for the head, it does anywhere from 2 to 4 times as much damage.
2. Trigger finger discipline. The "short controlled bursts" line is to be taken literally (for example, a laser clip holds 40. 2 of that is enough to crack a reinforced crate).
The laser rifle is specifically put in stage 2 only to teach you this concept.
3. If you're on a controller, turn the stick dead zone to zero. Playing with stick deadzone is like playing with mouse acceleration, it fucks up your aim something fierce.
@@bacondingo allah
Going by what I’m seeing of this video, you might like a Doom mod called Aliens Eradication. It doesn’t have the limited draw distance (although levels are still very dark), but it still has great horror atmosphere, especially playing as the colonist.
EDIT:it also uses a lot of sprites from Alien Trilogy.
If I remember right, someone was making Ressurection using Doom 3's engine but I heard years ago they abandoned it around the time Alien Isolation came out for obvious reasons.
Been waiting a lifetime for you to cover this :D
Referring to the "Space Jockey" as "The Pilot": Absolutely Barbaric.
Great vid as always!
Not only am i a massive Aliens fan, but i love looking for CZcams reviews on these 2 games. So huge in my childhood!
This game was actually a tie-in with the release of the Alien Trilogy VHS boxset. back when there were only three Alien movies. Also, Die Hard Trilogy for the PS1 was released alongside the Die Hard Trilogy box set.
The Sega Saturn port of Alien Trilogy is also quite good, BTW.
I seriously love this channel so much. Long time fan.
Alien Trilogy was fantastic, seriously what a great FPS shooter based on the Alien series. I remember me my mum, dad brother and sister all playing it together. A remaster or remake would be perfect, and like you said that soundtrack, wow! I loved the pump action shotgun so much, it's animation has stayed with me through every game I have played, always thought nothing was as cool as the pump action in that game.
Alien Trilogy and Alien 3 Genesis have some of the most dope classic soundtracks in gaming, and those 2 games single handedly made me an Alien fan back in the day.
I actually went out and bought a copy of this for my PSone. Such good times playing this as a kid. Looking forward to revisiting it. A great video as always Gman.
Resurrection was panned when it came out, and funnily enough I remember the dual stick aiming controls getting torn apart. Yikes
Alien Trilogy and MK Trilogy were the first games I brought when I first got my PS1. I was 15 and I had worked picking fruit all school holidays to save and buy it.
Those pink boots from Alien Trilogy still pop into my head all the time for no reason at all.
Oh man, my uncle played trilogy on Saturn when I was a kid and it scared the f. out of me back then.
Also did Quake 2 copy that shotgun from aliens there? Or was inspired by?
Fun fact: Due to censorship issues, The Human Enemies where completely removed from the German PAL version of Alien Trilogy. I only found out that there where human enemies in the game when I emulated an NTSC version of the game a few years ago. Usually the 90s and early 2000s censorship of videogames in Germany led to dogshit results but in this case removing human enemies enhanced the gameplay experience by a lot imo.
Love when my favorite channel uploads new videos, thank you for being you G!
Alien Resurrection was ahead of its time
I used to play all the time as a kid and it scared the piss out of me
You need to do Dead Space reviews. Especially with the remake on the way.
I'm more scared of the remake being for "modern audiences" than necromorphs
That first soundtrack hit me in the Perfect Dark feels for a moment
Loving the content man! Keep it coming. Lots of love from Boston, MA.
There is something about the smooth way you introduce sponsors that make me not hate ads.
Your love for Alien Trilogy is ace. Was the first "grown up" game I ever owned, nice to see it get the love it deserves
What I miss in this review is the Sega Saturn version. While the PSX version strangely had its "own" auto door sounds, the Saturn version hat the original sounds of the second movie.
Also the flame thrower opened hidden doors with goodies like ammo or acid resistant boots.
I have just replayed Alien trilogy on a PS1 and a CRT TV. Its got its fair share of issues but its heart is in the right place. It still delivers in 2021 - once you get your hands on the pulse rifle letting loose with it is still so satisfying amidst exploding barrels, crates and pixels! Love it!
I remember finishing alien trilogy game back in the PS1 days. Damn, the memories. My older brother was a fan of the movies and we got the game not knowing much about it. But it wasn't a bad game. In fact, it was pretty entertaining and a good time. Man, those were good days.
this was my childhood game Gman and to be honest, despite its issues, its a full on masterpiece.
also those freaky guys in suits, ain't aliens, they're Wayland Yutani commandos. They're human alright.
This is the happiest a video title has made me in a longgg time ❤
Thanks Gman xx
thanks gmanlives for the doom 3 comparison piece on "alien resurrection". This is why I like these kinds of futuristic sci-fi horror survival shooter games, especially why I love " Alien Resurrection" the video game and why its one of my favorite alien video games of all time. The two aliens games "Trilogy" and "resurrection" are suprisingly my favorite alien video games of all time with "aliens vs predator" coming in right at no.2. Extra note: "Alien Resurrection" graphics do improve quite a bit if you play it on the backward compatible playstation 2.
The best tip for success in Alien Resurrection
Aim for the head
Headshots do crazy damage (up to double damage I think) and can really allow you to stock up on pulse rifle ammo early on. My first time playing through the game, I struggled incredibly, especially on levels 6 and 7, but when I replayed it on easy and hard, I found ammo to not be a problem, granted the game was still hard.
Hey, chris is a pretty pop model with drama issues, his face means a lot to him.
I am glad he lived in the game.
Awesome video, Gman. I am planning to buy a copy of Alien Trilogy. Have owned Resurrection for sixteen years and always have problems getting past a particular door in Level 3 - which brings me to an important point - if you play Resurrection on anything higher than a PS2, compatibility issues mean that some doors won't open. I played mine on a PS3. Also some audio cues don't play. Best to play Resurrection on a PS2 but make sure you have a PS1 memory card since the game doesn't recognise PS2 memory cards.
I have since bought a copy of Alien Trilogy and played both that and Alien Resurrection on my PS2 (after getting a PS1 memory card just for those games) in a row. They're both now included in my "favourite games" list, although I just used cheats for both games. It made Alien Trilogy a kickass experience and was absolutely essential for Resurrection.
Alien Trilogy was a blind buy as a teenager, turned out to be one of the best gaming experiences I ever had. The OST is easily a 10/10, like this video is a 10/10.
Has Gman ever reviewed AvP on the Jaguar? It seems like the combat mechanics play better then in Alien Trilogy and the character sprites aren’t as muddy and blocky. Also, the Queen in Trilogy looks like a giant cockroach.
He should do a retrospective on all AvP games since BB they're all mostly FPS games. And Predator: Concrete Jungle doesn't count even thought it has a level with them xenomorphs.
@@Invidente7 Concrete Jungle was pretty entertaining, also felt like someone saw the Kroot and such in Warhammer 40k and decided "Well, if you're going to steal the whole Predator deal by just slapping a beak on them we're going to steal from you too" and included Dreadnoughts and Vindicare assassins as enemies. ...Then the really terrible Predator movie decided to further steal the Kroot's genetic upgrading culture and made the Predators come to earth to steal our Autism.
Honestly AvP 2 and especially with Primal Hunt expansion is still to this day the ultimate Marine, Xenomorph and Predator experience. It is quite incredible what the devs achieved with a single game.
Shut your fucking mouth. That predator film NEVER happened. Do you fucking understand me?!

Since I subscribed to this channel like 4 or 5 years ago, there's been two games I've wanted to see you reviewing the most. Alien Resurrection and Resident Evil 4. One more to go...
I know you mention it but I want to emphasize that Alien Resurrection was groundbreaking as it was the first console FPS to use the dual stick FPS movement controls that are still used today in every FPS.

Let's Go Brandon, boys.
A remaster of this would be great
This game made me a man! I got this with my Sega Saturn when I was little and it started my addiction to all things Alien. Used to scare the piss out of me but I just loved the atmosphere and music. First game I probably really used a strat guide for, I thought I was like the only person that had that game because no one knew what it was!
Nice. These have been on list for awhile
I actually did complete Ressurection back in the day, on normal... but it was absolutely brutal, you're 100% correct. Worth it though. I loved both, but I thought it was a lot more fun than Trilogy.
I loved that game as a kid. I remember getting to the boneship before I discovered the cheat password. I remember the level with the advanced Dog Aliens trying to complete the mission with just the shot gun as I hadn't discovered the secret Pulse Rifle. That level was so tense... man, I still have memories of it today!
Also, I remember the doors and elevators being really difficult to open. I don't know if this was a glitch or on purpose (like your short controlled bursts with the Pulse Rifle) but it really added to the tension, especially if you were trying to escape a room and the door or elevator wasn't responding or activating really slowly. A kind of a tip of the hat to the films too!
I remember having Trilogy on the psone as a kid and literally getting stuck on the elevator you start the game on for days lol. We thought the game was broken until one day I finally figured out the button to open the doors but the game was so goddamn scary for me that never played past the first couple of rooms

I've thought for a while now that an interesting way to treat flashlights in games would be to have them be like the small moderately priced led lights-
at first, they're good, but over time as you carry and use them, they get dimmer and flicker and need a whack to work until you replace it after 6 months of hard use
Man everything you said about the bone ship and the Alien Handlers...I had nightmares about them too. Even the platforms surrounded by acid...the whole thing was just unnerving and creepy.
I love when Minimme and then Gman uploads.
