The parts where you say spoler alert, end the video here, maybe you should pop up some shortcuts to the next review?
(Not that I didn't see them.)
Hey James, you and Mike need to play Alien Isolation!! :D
The best Scifi/Horror series without a doubt.
James and Mike should explore the ALIENS lore that is exposed via the various ALIENS and ALIENS vs Predator games.
I'd say they should play Alien Isolation, Aliens vs Predator on the 360, or better yet, Aliens vs Predator on the SNES.
James is probably one of the most passionate movie critics on the internet. Even not so well recieved or bad movies get a fair chance.
Westwurtzly hes like a bizarro nostalgia critic which i guess explains their rivalry
Have you ever played some of those NES games? I believe the AVGN rage was real.
Metaluna Zombie like Doug?
I'm sure there's a small number of professional critics who "just" watches movies....but a many of them were either film students or were involved in the industry prior to becoming critics. Even the critics who doesn't fit the aforementioned mold enjoy learning and are usually fascinated by movie production and "behind the lens" filming process. The statement "they only watch stuff" is rather inaccurate.
Metaluna Zombie You're kidding right? Professional film critics understand film theory and how film is made more than any amateur critic ever will.
Mark Kermode, one of the more famous critics, literally has a fucking PhD in horror films. You don't think after years and years of education that he doesn't have an incredible grasp on the process?
The big reason wht critics often think movies that a lot of people like are junk because in comparison to the sheer volume of film they've seen, their enhanced ability to understand what's going on onscreen with the camera, sound design, performances, and general technical altitude makes them far more likely to see all the flaws in a particular film.
That's why broken, jumbled, incoherent junk like Batman V Superman was panned.
This whole recent anti-critic sentiment is just garden variety anti-intellectualism, it's a bunch of people who watch film as a hobby instead of a profession feeling insecure that critics know and understand film better than them.
It's just plain arrogance.
From the perspective of the “Alien”; the movie is Die Hard.
Never have thought of it this way, lol
brovo, never though of it that way
Except he goes out like Hans did
When it came out, I remember hearing how scary it was. I read the book, saw the movie, wondered if I read the wrong book and saw the wrong movie. It wasn't scary at all.
@@fjccommish 'grats on not being scared
13:59 Bill Paxton, the only actor who had the honor of being killed by the three movie history icons: Alien, Predator and Terminator! 😂😂😂
And almost killed by a tornado and turned into a gooey turd.
You’re the only actor who had the honour of being killed by the three movie history icons; Alien, Predator and Terminator, mate, if anyone is...
I guess Lance Henriksen doesn't count because Bishop wasn't human?
@@Seantendo Nah. He certainly counts.
I miss him
I miss when only James did Monster Madness movie reviews.
Me too.... 😞
I like rental reviews with tony, kieran and justin too (all 4), sometimes james opinion doesn't match my own but one of those guys usually agrees with some of the movies I like
@@kodiiayyeee256 thats fair, he is a youngin tho
Me too 😥😓😥

Fun fact: Vasquez is played by the same actress, that played John Connors foster-mother
Tatjana Felde interesting
And she is also in Predator 2. Another staple actress off the three series then like Bill Paxton.
She's not my mother, TAWD!!!
James Cameron ties
She’s also the Irish mother in Titanic that tells her children a bedtime story in their room while the ship sinks.
AVP (2004) suffers from 'de-gore-ing' to get the PG-13, but AVPR (2007) sacrificed story for gore in order to get an R. Both movies were hurt by the lack of middle ground.
I personally LOVED how the “game over” sound byte of Bill Paxton was used in the SNES version of Alien3 when you get, obviously, a game over!
Alien 3 is so underrated...
One of the highlights of Aliens Pinball on PS4
Laughed hard at the comment at the end. "No discernible dialogue, just aliens and predators in space killing each other for an hour and a half. Instead of focusing on a bunch of douchebags caught in the crossfire." That sounds like a surrealist masterpiece.
"I can't think of anything more disturbing than a living creature inside you body ready to burst out" - You must have been so comforting when your wife was pregnant... :)
Bobaflott Bobo Fett
Bobba Feet
DatBoy SoTalented Boba Feetus
I remember reading a review when Prometheus was released, the review writer recommended NOT taking your pregnant wife to see Prometheus.
I watched Prometheus with my pregnant girlfriend. she hates that fucking movie now haha.
Cameron wanted the Marines and their vehicles to have a Vietnam type of attitude and ascetic to them, a really good choice in my opinion!
What's great is how all the Marine cast were encouraged to hang out weeks before shooting so their antics/jokes to one another was so organic. Can't think of a better method than that. Else we get wooden actors needing multiple takes to get the mood slightly believable. This might have helped Neil Breen, Tommy Wiseau, or Uwe Boll.
Nothing can help Tommy Wiseau.
Dylan DStruction Ascetic? He wanted the vehicles to practice religious penance? lul. Its aesthetic m8. kinda guy who corrects people in yt comments at 12:13 am btw
the things is...is that Cameron had written a script for a vietnam war film. And the studio made him do an Alien sci fi film instead. Hence the reason 'Aliens' has such a 'War' and 'millitary' element to it.
@@brandont4322 Don't falsely correct people. Ascetism isn't necessarily religious. You can be an ascetic atheist. Just avoid unnecessary luxuries.
That said, yes he did mean aesthetic.
Aliens is my all time favorite movie and it aged so well. The Thing and Aliens are both great examples of why practical effects were better.
I love Sigorney Weaver as an actress. Especially when she sleeps above the covers... 4 feet above the covers. Lol. No but seriously, awesome review of an awesome series.
I saw AvP while I was living in Japan. At night, mobile billboards would cruise around Tokyo. Mobile billboards were just that, billboards mounted on a truck (Japan loves doing this) but the AvP billboard were a cut above the rest. They'd cart around these larger than life-size statues of the alien and the predator about to duke it out. It was awesome!
WOW did they do that kind of thing for Godzilla?
@TrueGamerOpinion society? you are a doofus
what bugs me the most in these latest prequels is that their tecnology seems much more advanced compared to C-64 tech in Alien, why not make same kind of "retro tech".
YoStu agree they should've been faithful to the aesthetic of the original movie like what the designers and developers of alien isolation did.
YoStu retro tech in future is because of the tech wars after the global economic collapse.
this is sci-fi 101.
Dude you’re so right, thank you for voicing that opinion!
That's always bugged me about "prequel" movies.
Cole: Only, there's no mention of any "tech wars" in the franchise. In fact, with such things as cargo ships bringing billions of tons of material etc across the stars, economy seems to be thriving.
That said my biggest issue with the film is the attempt to weaponize the xenomorph. Sure you can drop a bunch of huggers on your enemies home world or base but after the xenomorphs wipe out your enemies you still have to destroy them, which would seem more difficult in most respects since they’re near perfectly adapted killing
Machines that when destroyed produce highly acidic blood that destroys their surroundings
🤔🤔
Well, we never saw the weaponization of the alien fully realized, partially thanks to Ripley's efforts, partially thanks to the Alien nature. Ideally, we would figure out a way to adapt to the use of Alien BioWeapons, probably through some sort of genetic immunization.
Oh, are you a responsible, upstanding, tax-paying member of society that always votes WeyYu? Here's your immunity vaccine. Are you (not that)? Here's your fucking egg, sucker.
The narrative of the trilogy is that Ripley stopped them from being able to do this.
Well thats where their orignial lifespan comes into play. Ridley Scott mentions in the commentary that the alien was dying inside of the shuttle at the end. Ofcourse the sequels went in a different direction. My headcanon is that the Space Jockeys/Engineers did design the Xenomorphs to die quickly but they mutated to bypass that limitation. Perhaps thats why they hibernate, otherwise they would die really young.
Always come back and watch these cinemassacre reviews and sequelathon, refreshes my nostalgia everytime,
Thank you James.
How about some Alien: Isolation for James and Mike Monday?
Miki How about..Aliens.
Miki Aaaaand Colonial Marines for a future Nerd episode....
Yes the should def play Alien Isolation. One of my all time favourite games. In my top 5 easily.
Miki Is it that good? I ve been considering buying it
Mikhaïl Boulgakov You know how Alien - Aliens are masterpieces?
Consider it Alien 1.5
Aliens is probably my favorite movie of all time. Perfect blend of everything you could possibly want in a movie.
Paeronhierta yeah, Cameron is known for that. T2, Titanic, etc...
+IF YOU KNOW SOMEONE IN JAIL, RECOMMEND MY BOOK shame his last two movies have sucked because give him the right material and he can make great movies
+YoDa BaKi He writes his own material. I can understand the disappointment with Avatar, but Titanic is still widely treasured to this day.
+YoDa BaKi Just don't talk as if your opinion is the general consensus because most people remember Jack and Rose as well as their scenes together ("I'm flying!", naked drawing, sweaty hand on the window, etc...).
+YoDa BaKi By that same logic, Titanic isn't as hated as you seem to think it is. Perhaps you mean film snobs because even film fans are generally appreciative of its existence. Outside of such groups, it's even more treasured by the public. Otherwise, lightning wouldn't strike twice w/ its re-release. You're still talking as if your opinion is the general consensus with such claims as "two memorable scenes". Several scenes and quotes from it have been referenced by various media.
Alien is a masterpiece. Perfect horror film.
You’re a perfect horror film, mate, if anyone is...
@@itsMrNoble thank you, thats the nicest thing anyone has said to me.
In the scene where his stomach explodes, they didn't tell the actors it was going to happen so the shock you see from them is 100% real. The one you see who passes out actually does faint.
I agree.
The funniest part to me was when the guy shot the spider.
Not because of the scene itself, but rather the MOMENT that he pulled the trigger, an Ad played.
As if he killed the thing with advertising.
That wasn’t just any guy. That was the almighty Ron Perlman!
That's why I keep only Alien and Aliens in my "Golden Films Collection" for the last 16 years. They are so different, but still awesome.
Aliens is still one of my all time favorite movies ever.
Classless System Alien is one of mine. Aliens is one is one of my favourite action movies though.

"Game Over Man!!!" and "Get to da Choppa" best movie lines ever.
Asuming Bill Paxton's character was into video games when he was a kid, Paxton improvised that line in, and that line made Alien history
@@sarcasticdude2320 Then it has 2 great lines. That movie is pure gold.
I love the environment of cinemassacre.
Honestly I wish he would narrate and review movies as we watched them in real time. I would sit through the whole thing.
I think he did that with Night of the Living Dead. That might be worth checking out
"I can't think of anything more disturbing than a living creature inside your body ready to burst out." Thanks, mom. Happy Mother's Day.
@ 14:34 Vasquez is like a female Rambo.... i give u: "Ma'ambo"
You’re Ma’ambo, mate, if anyone is...

Mambo No. 5
Honestly my biggest disappointment with the AvP movie was the fact that it was present day instead of in the future and having Colonial Marines getting caught between the Aliens and Preds. That would of been an epic throw down on the big screen.
The AvP video game is exactly that
@@zanewoollett6877 Hence my big disappointment over the Movie, as the AvP2 PC game was amazing.
As odd as it seems, I actually really likes AvP 1. It was goofy and wacky as far as cannon and atmosphere goes, but fun. AvP 2 is on my top 5 worst movies and top 5 most disappointing movies. That said, having an AvP in the future could be the best idea for making AvP not a hot mess, and really fun to watch. I’m just not sure if there is a director who could pull it off currently.
Great idea
@@blakepearson9948 I hated AvP 1 because the Predator suits were awful and they purposely nerfed the predators to make it a fair fight I guess. But I also liked it because there was quite a bit of AvP action going on and you could actually see it.
Alien Isolation perfectly captures making you feel like you're in the Alien universe. The art in the game is near perfection. I would consider Isolation a more worthy addition to the Alien universe than Prometheus. If you play videogames, check it out. You won't be disappointed.
alien resurrection (people will learn from these mistakes) _fast forward years into the future_
matrix resurrection....
Rest in peace Bill Paxton, Sonny Landham and Kevin Peter hall.
And Bolaji Badejo
And John Hurt !!
And Harry Dean Stanton
And Yaphet Kotto
At least in the assembly cut, the alien doesn't burst out of Ripley so it leaves it up to the question of weather she could survive or not, making her suicide more impactful
Assembly cut is superior cut.
It sucked either way. Laughable really...
Avp has the best looking xeno's up to that point. The under ice pyramid was cool. I think it's underrated.
Wish they hadve upped the rating though
That scene in Prometheus is so rage inducing... when the guy walks up to the eel looking creature, like ''Ohh, it's so cute!!' I've never been happier to watch a character die
My take on that scene is that he was putting on a brave face and hoping to make the best of a potentially bad situation since there was really nowhere to run.
@@kevinharkness2108 My friend, that's the most generous interpretation ever given to anything in the history of Man. Very kind of you!
Terrible screenwriting and dialogue. One of many reasons Ridley appears to sabotage the franchise into Disney’s hands
Honestly, I could help but wonder if the crew in Prometheus was intentionally picked to be inept so when Old Weyland shows up, he and his men can easily get rid of the crew if necessary.
"The characters are your average generic uninspired teen-horror-shitheads. I hate everyone of them." -I could not agree more!
Love going back and binging through these older Monster Madness videos.
Hope everyone here is having a wonderful night, much love 🙏
Man, it sure is entertaining to listen to you, James.
27:55 Sigourney weaver actually made that shot, it took dozens of shots til she got it in backwards.
Originally Alien 3 was supposed to be on a planet made of wood and was a monestery. It was really interesting and what sold the movie. Look up Oliver Harper's film retrospectives, he goes into the details of the wooden planet, and its pretty good
Really? Damn!
Phillip Cosentino there was an earlier concept of the Xenomorphs coming to earth and one where Ripley was in a coma. All the previous concepts are pretty interesting
I tricked my grandma into buying alien for me when i was 8. I didn’t know how scary it was and i was hardly able
To watch it.
In the alien universe, the android series are in alphabetical order: Ash, Bishop, Call, David.
FUCK!! Awesome notice!

You totally made me wanna watch Alien. Again!!
You totally made me wanna watch Alien again, mate, if anyone did...
The Alien 3 directors cut makes much more sense than the actual theatrical release.
It definitely redeems the film.
Not a bad film at all.
He forgot to mention that when John Hurt started seizing on the table before they changed to the special effects they didn’t tell most of the actors so when he was screaming, that was real terror. Also the guy in the Alien suit was seven feet tall, gangly, and African and Scott spent a lot of time showing him how he wanted him to move.
I love how James refers back to old 50s and 60s horror films. It's a great way to show where the Alien filmmakers may have been inspired.
Ripley looks like Danzig in Resurrection. Can't stop seeing him watching it.
Haha yeah I always think the same thing
nah, she looked hot in that movie. loved her attiude.
I'm glad Alien Isolation bumped the ever-descending Alien curve in a better direction.
Ehhh---
I’m so obsessed with seeing James review stuff
Much love James! You’ve kept me entertained for more hours than I can possibly count.
3:10 "There's something else out there, and maybe something else beyond that. It's a never-ending story. It makes the universe seem so much larger! Something only the best science fiction films can do." Then Prometheus made the universe small again.
GG Prometheus wasn't that bad...Alien Covenant is what made their universe much smaller.
GG
Prometheus was decent
Prometheus and covenant was okay but none compare to the original 3
GG Alien covenant limited the entire experience.
There was one mistake in Aliens, the soldiers asked if this mission was another bug hunt. Suggesting soldiers had been sent to kill something not human before. I always wondered what they had hunted and why it was never mentioned again.
Maybe Starship Troopers exists in the same universe. The movie is from '97 but I'm pretty sure it was based on a novel from the 60s
Maybe "bug hunt" is just a metaphorical term of a very easy mission
It’s not a mistake. It’s just letting you know these guys have fought aliens before, just not these particular aliens.
Here's the biggest mistake about Aliens: its existence.
I don't care if I'm in the super minority on this, but Alien never needed to be turned into a completely unnecessary franchise.
“Bug Hunt” is just a military expression for a dumb mission. Kind of like a Snipe hunt.
H.R. Geiger was a genius. His work turned my stomach by being too high quality. He has the distinction of being the only artist whose ever stylized one of my nightmares. I had a nightmare about having a painting of his that was cursed. What I actually saw was street lights in a parking lot but in the dream it was an HR Geiger style painting of a city with glowing dots that showed up when it was amping up the evil

Like the Christmas Wish catalogue episode. Awesome work guys!!
One of the things that I love most about Aliens is that the space marines are depicted as actually being competent (much like Dutch's team in Predator). They are obviously outmatched and their fates are all but sealed, but atleast they put up a real fight instead of just being insta-fodder like most other soldiers in "survival" horror movies.
