    How could any manufacturer even contemplate selling an expensive camera that is so easy to steal and most buyers end up having to create a Heath Robinson car mount? I have just bought their Sat nav and am looking whether to purchase a BC 40 Camera and was surprised to find there is no dedicated glass mount to mount the camera inside the rear window!

    Very interesting video - thank you. I have an Avtex Tourer 2 sat nav which is made by Garmin and compatible with the BC40. My concerns were :- would it be easy for the camera to bounce out of it's plastic holder when driving ? and it seems very easy to steal should you forget to remove every time you stop.

    • @WhatWouldGordonDo
      @WhatWouldGordonDo  Před 4 lety

      I thought exactly the same thing but it is really solid in the holder however to stop it being stolen I have filed 2 slots into the base where it meets to bike rack and put 2 cable ties through as this will stop it falling off and also put off someone trying to steal it, you can see they cable ties in the video at about 3.28

    • @martinw245
      @martinw245 Před 2 lety +1

      @@WhatWouldGordonDo
      Well no, a vehicle is many orders of magnitude harder to steal than a device clipped to a number plate. Cars have immobilisers and alarm systems.
      This Garmin device is a theft concern. Why some who have bought this device have fabricated their own attachment devices and used theft proof security screws. Something Garmin themselves could have done.
      It might be easy to unclipped when you leave the vehicle but that's going to get tiresome very quickly.
      And of course you have to carry it around with you.
      The other points not in this devices favour are that the time for this device to boot up is lengthy and some owners have said that's an inconvenience.
      The other point is that few people leave their Garmin Sat Navs permanently set up. They are not used for most journeys which are familiar. In fact here in the UK if you leave a Sat Nav in your car, set up and ready to go, you are asking for a smashed window and it to be stolen. Thus, with no Sat Nav in use for most of the journeys people do, that are familiar, there's no back up camera functioning either. And it's local, familiar, short range journeys where back up cameras are used most.
      For the above reasons, if you need a reversing camera, better to buy a dedicated, perfectly mounted device that isn't much more expensive.
