This is a camera comparison between the OnePlus 9 Pro and the Samsung Galaxy S21. There are already a ton of comparisons against the S21 Ultra, so I thought it would make sense to see how the 9 pro compares against the regular S21.
If you are deciding between the S21/S21+ or OnePlus 9 Pro, then this video is for you! Of course, this is not a full device comparison. I will mostly be focusing on the photo capabilities of each camera system.
I think the Hasselblad partnership really made a big difference. For most of these shots, I preferred the way OnePlus rendered the details and colors. But take a look for yourself! Be sure to watch until the end for some really surprising night photography.
I didn't go into video capabilities of each, because I have many video examples in the full camera review videos. Stay tuned for the in depth camera review video for the OnePlus!

Loved your unbiased breakdown of the photos. Please keep doing this, I love it as I buy phones based on a price category and it's camera quality. I know the S21 Ultra is the one most others compare the Oneplus 9 Pro to, but it's in a while different price category, so this video really is made for enthusiasts like myself and I appreciate it.

Awesome review, thanks. The only thing missing is a quick review of shutter lag comparison. We all know iPhone's and Pixels are the only phones that seem to take quick pictures, but it would be good to compare Samsung shutter lag vs OnePlus.

Brilliant video, second hand these devices are very similar prices and I like taking photos so the camera is very important to me so I guess my OnePlus 8t is being upgraded to a OnePlus 9 pro!

great indepth camera/picture vid. it is clear to me the oneplus uses over sharpening at a cost of bloom and blur which is great as I like my pictures to have detail, not post process filter effects. Despite Samsung being my phone of choice for the last 7 years.... Their cameras are hit and miss, especially in night settings.
I will be getting the one plus next :D

Is it exynos and snapdragon variant?
Great stuff. I just wish i had the time to really practice digital photography. Currently i have a samsung s10 and s21 ultra . In a way, I always regarded mobile photography as a niche hobby and not as serious as proper dedicated cameras which are bulky and cumbersome.
Hopefully when I get time off next year I can spend more time faffing about with settings and away from humans as photobombers always spoil good shots.

Thanks for the comment! Mobile photography is gaining in popularity, but I don't think it will replace professional photography anytime soon. The small sensors and limited lenses are still huge limitations.

@@TheDiecastPhotographer honestly I can't say, because I haven't been able to test out all of them myself. I'm still a small CZcamsr so brands don't send review units. But I think most devices have close camera systems where the differences won't be that big.

Best camera comparo. Really liking the detailed in depth zoomed in comparison pointing out each and every details. Good to see oneplus finally doing great on camera department. I have been using ONEPLUS phones for a long time, probably 4 years since oneplus 5 and have loved their camera quality for their minimal prices they offered but this 9pro has gone up to a whole new level along with the price. But it's good to see your are getting the worth you are paying.

Thank you Alex for this comparission. Even hier in Latvia price range is similar to OP9 pro and Samsung S21. Samsung is a little bit cheaper, but for me also important is the camera. Please do your comparissions in similar price range, good Idea.

@@azvisuals in fact if you want to have realistic colorimetry and constant exposure on the Samsung you have to turn off the scene optimizer, everyone knows that.

Camera is important and the only bigger difference between the phones :)
I have used a variety of different top phones and so far the best experience has been with the OnePlus6 (3 years and still performing good) .
Before that I used Samsung Galaxy models and the main concern with Samsung was their battery. Its to short and with playing it gets very hot and drains fast. Charging could be faster and Samsung UIX is not my favorite.
The pros of OnePlus have been good software support, fast loading, very convenient and fast interface (unlike Samsung), it doesn't get as hot as many others, there is a physical button on the side like iPhone.
The disadvantage is the video stabilizer and macro shots are not as good as iPhone and Samsung. The image also tends to lag when cold (-15C), but the slow motion is on good level.
The Xperia was very good making videos, but the phone had to be repaired three times and the moisture resistance was not good.
But what to buy new if the budget limit could be around € 1200? Maybe the OnePlus 9Pro is just the middle ground to go or should you consider the Samsung Ultra?

I am looking forward to testing it out. Was in an auto accident in 2019. Lost my camera gear since my car blew up. Was gifted a cannon reble but it's so bulky. Have been using a galaxy s8 for photos on bike rides and feel guilty lol.

Great comparison. Both phones actually cost approx. the same here in Slovakia. S21 is even slightly more expensive. Most reviewers compare OP9 Pro to S21 Ultra. But it's 760 Eur vs 1250 Eur. If ordered directly from China it's an even bigger difference.
Same for Romania. The S21+ at the same price with OP9 Pro. Having a hard time choosing between them. Which is the better one, overall?

Hey Alex, how you doing? Could you please make a comparison between the oneplus 9 pro and the new iphone 13 pro the same way as this video with the pixel peeping and details analysis. Just want to know how much better oneplus can get to compete with the latest and best from apple. Really wish oneplus stays on par, if not better with the iphone 13pro. I am sure atleast the ultra wide shots will go to oneplus for sure. It is very underated for the capabilities and performance it has and the iphones are very very over rated. Iphone fans have hyped their camera as the best smartphone camera system. But there's others that can easily beat the iphone and they need to know this.

Here in Cambodia S21 ultra is 100 usd cheaper than Oneplus 9 pro. 🤔
Hm tough decision! I know that the exynos isn't as good as the snapdragon 888 but the cameras on the ultra should still be better because it has the upgraded telephoto. I think if you want close to stock android experience, go with OnePlus but if you like the Samsung UI then get the Ultra.

Thank you for the review. Actually I am choosing between S21 (regular with Exynos) and OP9 Pro so I find your review very informative and interesting. I prefer form factor of S21 but I am not a big fan of OneUI, so if camera is on pair with samsung one I¨d trade the form factor for oxygenos.

Well, if we're just comparing auto modes, then Samsung, I think has a better chance of 'winning' due to the Ai creating an image less accurate and more beautiful. But if we can use the pro mode features for both phones (as a photographer should), then I think OnePlus has a real chance of taking the win here.
