- Clearing land with a machete and Husqvarna walk behind string trimmer.
I am an amazon affiliate , Shopping through my link doesn't cost you a thing, but I get a small fee when you do. Thanks! amzn.to/2VKQjIV
Got the place cleaned up nice. That Mocking Bird is grocery shopping and headed home. That sting trimmer has been just the thing for clearing the place. Lucy Bell is a sweet heart
You're a little bit older than me, but not by much. I have to say you really inspire me to take on projects and complete them. I still work full time, but I have taken to utilizing my down time to get to the stuff I have wanted to get done. Thanks for the great videos...
Thanks for that encouraging comment!
Looks good! Hard hot work but, worth it. Great job!
My most favorite vacant property that I cleaned up ( May 2015) had 3-4ft weeds all around it. The lovely neighbors (both sides) had thrown furniture and garbage out of their respective "magic" windows and fences. I had experienced the true flowers of humanity when dirty diapers got wraped around my mower blades and I got the rare experience of removing them! True leaders in our community! Maybe they can run for city council or the Senate! I wonder what part affiliation they might be inclined to run as? lol
they all have "hillary" stickers on their cars! LOL!!! In fact, I did run over a few diapers!!
That place looks awesome, a lot of hard work but also self satisfaction in what you and your wife accomplished! When you are finished run a before/after video.
my favorite hobby is watching others work...lol... actually this heat and humidity has my copd flared up so I'm house bound. I have to agree with some of the other responses thought, as nice as it looks cleaned up, you still need to look at those houses. Maybe run a high wood fence to block the view and prevent them from throwing stuff over the fence. or plant some Spanish bayonets or something...oh well too each their own. Thanks for entertaining me for a bit....
It's highly likely that I'll put up a privacy fence.
WOW BC..AWESOME I am sure they are regretting about complaining about the weeds because now you have them exposed so to speak..they can't toss the garbage in YOUR yard ...yeah..I was exhausted just watching by the way ...your Mrs BC is doing great with her cameo appearances ...:-))))
I'm nearly certain that once it's cleaned up and wide open,I won't have any more trouble with them dumping stuff over there.
Hey Brad its looking really good on your new plot of land, And as a bonus to all your hard work. You are taking away places for the bad guys to hide. Hope you can show us when you put up the new fence in the corner. Call it the Bacon fence LOL
These people have been complaining to the city about the weeds on these lots. Now they are gonna miss the cover that they had for the drinking and fighting they do in the back yards.
I totally understand why you purchased the property! It looks like you live in a beautiful neighbourhood so when you said in another vlog something about stopping more homes being built for thugs to move in.............ahhhhhhhh yeah I am a little slow sometimes. With neighbors you have, you nipped a possible bad situation in the bud. The property looks amazing. You gave a lot of blood and sweat for that.
Enjoyed this vid. Keep us posted on the clean up. Wish u had better neighbors.
You folks are doing a spectacular job. Hope the neighbors stay i line with the loss of cover.
What a treat! I like mocking birds!! They are really good song writters hahaha!
They are song plagiarizers!!
Wow, that's turning out to be a beautiful little piece of land, isn't it? LOL, all that poison ivy had me itching just looking at it! Give the wife and four-legged kids a hug from all of us!
BTW, a suggestion...my house sits literally just about 3 feet off the dirt alley on the north side. Since there tends to be lots of foot-traffic up and down this alley, we had a bit of trouble with peepers. I planted Firethorn Pyracantha along the wall, especially under the windows. It's already four feet high, blooms beautifully in the spring and puts on masses of brilliant orange berries in the fall. Best of all, it features 2 1/2" thorns...I bet you get where I'm going with this...LOL, it might be worth a try.
+Dawn Hernandez that sounds like a razor wire bush! I'll google it, thanks!
Sorry to hear about your neighbors, thankfully we have pretty good ones here. I used to live next door to an old woman whose favorite pastimes were figuring out who she could sue and yelling at people - even little girls - to not pick her flowers. Glad I never have to deal with her again.
I like that idea someone had of thorny vines on that section of fence, of course razor wire would work well too.
Well,it turns out that the fence is over the property line by a good bit. I'll be able to do whatever I want to with it. Most likely it will be a six foot tall privacy fence.
BC, what I do with the poison vines, is to just keep them cut at the ground. The leaves drop soon after & the vines crumble & fall in a few year. It's not as quick, but saves a lot of suffering. You've really turned that new property around. Looks good. Your neighbor, two states East.
Thanks Dan. A few more days on that land and it will look as nice as my yard. The walk behind string trimmer has payed for itself ten times over.
GADS!! I'm exhausted just watching what you have to do!! You are more ambitious than I could ever be Brad!! lol!
It keeps me out of jail norm!
That lot is starting to look really nice. You two have worked so hard! There must be some way to make that property be productive for you. Of course, once it's cleaned up and the poison ivy has been defeated, you can probably sell it for lots more than you paid for it. Maybe you'd even get a GOOD neighbor out of the deal.
The payoff for me is that I saved our quiet little neighborhood from having 4 more homes and neighbors like the ones that are at the edge of the property.
Wow man, you got it looking good. Too bad about some neighbors. Everyone's got them.
Looks good my friend... Stay away from the crazies!
I would have never thought one of those push weed eaters would clean property so well! Hard work, but very rewarding!!!
It's made the job much easier.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose I gotta get the wife one!! LOL!!
Man, I salute you and your wife for the job you tackled. Sure is looking alot better. Up here in Michigan my wife and I cleared a 100' or so of brush including good ole poison ivy, and it is not fun work, but it is rewarding. Your property looks alot better. Take care, get some rest . . . ;) Rog
Gunshow today!!! That's where I'll be resting! Yeehaw!
haha!!
looking awesome...
Wow. A big change in the appearance of that propery. I think we'v all had one issue or another with HUD renters. We used to have some folks living across the street that we knew there was drug dealing going on and fully expected a gun battle to break out in the middle of the night. Moved my sons room from one in the front of the house to the side of the house.
The second someone rents to a person with a HUD certificate, the peace and security I. That neighborhood end. It's like a prerequisite for obtaining a HUD certificate is to promise you'll cause problems in the neighborhood.
That is some tough work especially in this heat.
We start in the wee hours and quit about 2:00.
Great video... watching your video I was doing some reflecting and you know.... it's just a shame we have to live in the same world with types of people described in your video. It's just too bad.
Wow, that's some old poison ivy! The thickness of those vines is incredible! I use Roundup for poison ivy, so that it kills the roots (otherwise, it'll just grow back!). One thing you may want to consider doing, after clearing the fence between you and the nasty neighbors, is to replant that poison ivy along the fence! You might even want to give it some fertilizer and water, too! **winks**
Thorny dark berry plants along the fence line work well for keeping people from climbing and throwing things over. As a side note the dark berries have the effect of the bird poop ending up in fun shades.
Hehehehehe... I like the way you think, Andrew! Hehehehehehe...
I was thinking of a broken glass minefield sort of affair along the fence.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair,repurpose
If you do make the fence taller the thorny plants act as a nice natural barbed wire and you can get berries off them at different points of the season if you select the right types.
I just today was amused by purple poop on my mail box, very true.
Man, by the time you get done with that you'll be back down to your "fightin' weight"! Then you can come up here and start in on
my back yard! :)
I'm hovering at 260. I think by Summer's end ,I'll be at 240. I had to buy smaller shirts and shorts a few days ago. I didn't by many because I'm hoping I'll have to buy again this time next year.
the first place to burn is those nuts houses. Hell of a job you've been doing, looking much nicer.
The lady who throws furniture and garbage over the fence has a son that sits out back and smokes crack. Maybe he will light that place on fire.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose Sounds like the most likely scenario to me :)
You might want to set fire to that tree and run! I agree with Donna M. Schmid! Plant poison ivy along the fence with all the crazy people! I was going to suggest that lot looks perfect for a large garden but then you described the neighbors so, they would probably just steal the food.
That's exactly what would happen. The only reason I bought this land was to prevent four more HUD rental homes from being built there.
When ya start dealing with people, life gets messy. Take lots of breaks working in this heat y'all.
More often than not, I keep my gate closed and stick to myself.
looking real good job I'm doing yard work at the bomb shelter house
Bomb shelter?
+BCtruck, rebuild, repair, repurpose. lol ya bc don't you watch our videos man we have a house with a bomb shelter I built in basement that now has a hurried school bus we are starting up the bomb shelter video series again very soob
You can run a garden hose from my spicket any day for free! Sounds like you just need to buy a few more garden hoses to reach the fire pit.
That's what my wife suggested. 200 more feet of hose should get me there.
Or use your back up water tank, toss it in the back of the truck, and fill it up.
Man Oh Man thats alot of poison ivy!
It's really been neglected over the years.
How has ham radio not Incorporated some kind of ham sandwich, ham and biscuits, ham of some kind, our maybe they have. that's some fine property you have.
No ham sandwich at the ham fest! Makes no sense!
So if anything happens you dont have very good neighbors to team up with. Course none of them are thinking about what is coming. So they will be in trouble. Make sure you have good security. God bless.
I'm hoping that when the world as we know it changes, people will be a lot more willing to work with others.
Im hoping so too. But people just aren't like they use to be. My mom use to tell me about all the neighbors getting together and building homes for one another. The men would work on the homes and the women would prepare meals for everyone. They made it a fun get together. Wish it was days like that.
Don't over do it BC, in that hot Louisiana sun....
We start early in the morning and quit about 2:00.
go Lucy Belle ... got to love a good dog! Good luck with the rest of that &^##
Thanks!
I wonder if borrowing some goats might not solve a lot of your weed problem.
I don't know if I've missed it in a previous video but do you have any plans to grow anything on that land?
No. It's not fenced in and it would be decimated by two legged and four legged varmints.
I don't know Brad, with all the troubles you've been having with those HUD homes I personally may have left some of that vegetation in place as a natural barrier.
I'm thinking that with nothing back there to hide their activities, they won't even bother coming into their backyards.
Man, judging by the stories involving the adjoining properties, I think I might have not only have NOT cut any vegetation near the fence, I think I might have installed more poison ivy, and possibly some briars......
Natural barriers are never a bad thing.
I may install 6 foot privacy fence.
BCtruck, rebuild, repair,repurpose
Good call, I think I'd skip the roundup and let the ivy come back....... ;-) just as a warning....
LOL you are going to need a nice fence that is not see through between you and the neighbors.
6 foot privacy fence should do the trick.
