The gingerbread costume is absolutely on point, considering that Hans Eriksson (a.k.a. Seth's other alter ego) is absolutely a man who would enjoy his gingerbread, and heartily.
Commander players when you play a 5 mana creature that dies to everything but it even slightly impedes their gameplan 😱
literally
It also seems less damaging since it’s mono-white, so any commander deck won’t have access to blue’s cheap protections spells. You can still build around protecting it in white, but it’s a much bigger opportunity cost than if it were Azorious.
Exactly most commander players have gotten so insufferable since magic got commander focused Iona being banned is a joke
It does not die to ravenous chupacabra.
@@thatonekidtrex Iona banning is at least a little defensible; sheoldred is just absurd
You look like some sort of compleated gingerbread planeswalker but in a good way 😮
For the first draft I was tearing my hair out at why Kaito is in the deck but not Tinker while you have a Citadel, always fun to see vintage cube tho!
New Norn is kind of funny with Mulldrifter actually. Opposing muldrifters essentially have their casting cost reduced by 2 as the sac trigger is negated. Of course you lose the card draw too which hurts but if you need a blocker for 3 that flies lol
1:58:00 he had the wiiiinnnn he just needed to swing with tarpit, play citadel and sac for 10 damage, then sac grist to Braids to deal 2 damage
In a format with a billion board wipes for 3, 4, 5, & 6 mana, tons of spot removal and permanent theft, and cards so broken that if you don't immediately respond to them they end the game, how the F is a creature with zero protection that doesn't immediately win the game such a threat the RC emails WotC begging them to not print it??
Gingerbread say "not the gumdrop buttons!"
My god an entire table of potatoes drafting lol love ya Seth but wow
Spellseeker and time walk were made for each other and you take izzet signet?!
There was another, potentially faster way to win that super close game
Starting after attacks on the turn where Seth had one card left in his deck:
Do nothing with Grist and end turn, sacrificing nothing with Braids.
Get a snake
Opponent attacks: chump Titan with snake, New Braids blocks a 2/2, and chump another 2/2 with old Braids - go to 2
Your turn: get a snake, old Braids is dead so you don't sac anything. You have Creeping Tar Pit and exactly 9 mana, of which 4 is black and more than one is blue. Turn on Creeping Tar Pit
Combat: attack with creeping tar pit
Post-combat: play Citadel, tick up Grist, milling nothing and getting an insect, then sac all 10 permanents plus Citadel to win the game with opponent on exactly 0
Commander Players Engage in Banlist discussion with Good Faith Challenge (IMPOSSIBLE).
Anyways, I don't think Sheldon intends to ban MoM. But it would be consistent with the banning of Iona, as it's a card that points to people playing certain decks and says "you don't get to play anymore".
This gingerbread man has great opinions about the commander format 🦀👍
I can still ear Seth saying '' OOOH Nooooo'' after that Force of negation
Elesh Norn needed to be ban is hilarious. Yarok gives you access to 3 colors, it don't have the topor orb attached, but gives you more broken things to do.
My thing with elish norb is that banning it make no one play it but no one has to play it anyway just rule zero it out plus it dies to doom blade almost every deck every can answer it but dockside a lot of the time is a 2 mana I win if you don’t have a counter
The main issue is it can be your commander their is only so much removal you can play. You also can't just using all the removal on a single card. The just use removal concept isn't exactly a great argument for commanders.
@@Small_Panda If you are trying to play monowhite, that's just an expensive Torpor Orb
@@Small_Panda I mean it’s not fool proof but I’m usually wining before a mono white deck plays this card anyways and I think Mark rose water said it best “I think people play comander to exploit the design mistakes of the past” playing really strong cards the the whole point of the format
@Alikaoz mono white has some of the strongest enter the battlefield abilities in the game? What are you talking about? Plus the one sided torper orb effect is what makes this card strong. As most of the most played creatures are either 1 mana dorks or 2 etbs
@andrewstandish7635 if you are winning before turn 4 or 5 then the commander ban list isn't for you, as you are no longer playing casually. Also the mistakes of the past? Is he high the strongest etb creatures are all from recent sets. The entire evoke elemental cycle dockside, etc most cards are from recent sets not "mistakes" of the past unless he means past is in the past 4 sets. Are their strong old cards sure but almost none of them are on creatures because creatures were trash in pthe past.
Have you ever considered doing some sort of Against the Odds special April Fools Day?
And please Seth and chat, Krark rhymes with bark.
Happy Holidays!
Totally agree, I really enjoyed the Jund April Fool's deck he played for Against the Odds
Comprised exclusively of Alchemy Cards
I also think people's refusal to play removal and interaction is a problem as well
I've been frustrated with the Library of Alexandria hate. Like... what do you give up? One pick? Card is awesome.
The dude from violent femmes is someone who doesnt look his voice
The Rule Committee never banned Tergrid so I doubt they ban the new Norn
I guess they havnt played mono blue in standard lately.
The audio is out of sync. I think when you took out the 5 minute intro, it didn’t adjust the audio correctly.
not sure what Hz. ur voice is but anywhere from 0.1 to 900000 seems correct, poor speakers sry.
I hear all this Elesh Norn discourse and all I think is, "It dies to Doomblade." I was under the impression that commander still was the format of board wipes galore so I can't honestly understand why people are so scared of it and it's by no means an auto include like the article suggests. You have to actively wanna utilize ETB's and in general if you're an ETB deck you should have a few outs to torpor orb effects just in case.
Does the audio ever sync up?
Mine is fine 🤷🏻♀️
Anyone who thinks urabrask is even close to as strong as any of the other praetors is nuts.
Both Urabrasks are definitely pretty lame compared to the others, but synergies like Urabrask, Heretic Praetor, and Drannith Magistrate are pretty nutty.
@The_Warden true but let's be honest that's more drannith magistrate being a good card than urabrask.
Big agree
@@Small_Panda Urabrask is just the enabler, forsure. XD
I think the entire commander community should, just disregard the commande group entirely, the ban list is absolutely pointless, besides for Griselbrand, Karakas, Emrakul and Leovold the entire banlist is a joke
I mean, the whole banlist is that pirates of the Caribbean quote, "they're not rules per say, more like guidelines". You should have a rule zero conversation and people should not be dicks playing necropotence and rhystic study against your blex pest tribal deck
Seth talking about the alchemy cards in historic and then there is the ominous traveler Ashdod's altar goblin trapfonder combo meta
Am I the only one who remembers the days when you built your deck with mana sinks you could use with mana crypt in your upkeep so that the crypt was tapped and didnt hurt you?
I don't think Mana Crypt works like that bud.
Yeah, Mana Crypt never worked like that.
@@stephenblevins3829 LoL sure it didn't Noob.
@@keithbarlow9701 It did. Obviously you don't remember. Artifacts didn't function when tapped before..... I think 5th Edition rules.
@@paulmerritt6285 Actually smart ass, I've been playing since 1994. You didn't have the opportunity to tap the Mana Crypt before you had to resolve its ability. You can't play abilities during the untap step, so as soon as you enter upkeep, you have to flip. Even tapping it and turning it off didn't stop the ability at that point.
I get that the commander ban list is a joke but to have serious talks about banning the new Elish Norn is laughable.
There are far more degenerate things than a Panharmonicon & Hushbringer on a stick especially when Norn counters said degenerate things.
18:00 chat has to whine about Historic....the best format on Arena
But it has the no-no cards.
The "rules committee" is one of the reasons I don't play magic anymore. They're far too ban happy.
The commander banlist I a joke putting it nicely as I can. The RC has proven time and time again that they have no idea what they are doing. The control over the format should be moved before these old out of touch old dudes ruin it.
So tired of bannings. If people are too petty to play a friendly game of Magic, then rule zero exists; but Commander is way more fun at higher power levels, and it sucks not having access to cards, and most people don't want a card in their deck that won't be playable anywhere, so the "we aren't here to tell people what to play at their own tables", point is moot. The philosophy is so ass backwards, they facilitate a culture where people communicate the type of deck they're playing, and people table ban cards with rule zero, so why would any card ever need to be hard banned by the RC? It's actual nonsense.
Also in this specific case Elesh is a 5 mana Torpor/Harminicon that can get slapped with a 1 mana spell. What?
There shouldn't be a Rules Committee for Commander it's pointless it's a fun format now if wizards wants to make a pro Commander league make a Rules Committee but stop giving titles to old players to make them feel special
The RC is out of touch and they have no idea what they are doing. The banlist is inconsistent at best.
Just gotta say, I don’t like how Seth presented Sheldon’s article at all. He basically tee’d it up for chat criticism. If your going to put someone’s work out there like that, for evaluation, do it whole. Because anyone who actually read the article will know it was actually quite balanced in its discussion about the card. And it concluded with him being VERY clear that he was just giving his opinion. An opinion based on things like effect, cost, and splashability. Heck, he even discussed the art of the card, which I personally always appreciate being added in card evaluation. Overall I actually like Elesh Norn, I even plan on building her. But Sheldon had all legitimate arguments based on what we’ve seen just from the first episode of Game Knights.
Commander shouldn't even be a thing, lol. Commander is the Yu-Gi-Oh of MTG.
I think it’s a tad late for that friend
@@starmanda88 I know it is, lol. Still doesn't mean it's right. 😂
@@Crisper333but why tho? Commander “IS” the most inviting, fun, and played format.
@@fishflop2987 I started playing MTG before Commander was a thing. Therefore MTG will ALWAYS be Standard. I'm a competitive player, so fun for me is winning. Fun for me is having my cards be worth something. It's sad that MTG is dead, but such is life.
Commander is killing MTG, slowly but surely.
how?
@@thetruth4654 You can watch 10 first minutes of this video where Seth talks about it. It used to be that you took mtg cards, and build a deck out of them. But these days, everything caters to edh. It's not enough to have supplementary edh sets with every core release. Every set has hundreds of legendaries to please the edh crowd (which maro confirmed in recent blogpost). When a casual meme format informs design of real magic, then it's all over.
@@30LayersOfKevlaroh no the most played format is the one cards are being made for. 😮 But really them designing cards for commander seems to take all the spice out.
Agreed. It 100% ruins competitive magic for sure. Especially when the ban list is specifically made for fun reasons not power level. Sol Ring? Mana crypt? Unbanned? What a joke
your voice stops me from enjoying this channel and is probably why you only have 40k subs
