    Whoa. Your message here shocked me. I can allow my body to exist without loving it. It feels like a much easier first step to take. It takes the wind out of the part of me that hates my body. Amazing message. Thank you!

    I'm full of shame about my body and you have put into words the way I've felt for 20 years, in that I feel my body doesn't deserve to take up space. It's an exhausting place to be. Thank you for being the first person I've envountered who really understands, and thank you for sharing an alternative way of thinking. I will try this approach and although it will still be challenging I'm ever hopeful.
    Your honesty and sharing of your own vulnerabilities is much appreciated, thank you. 🙏🏻

    Just found your channel the other day after I was about to quit intuitive eating and return to dieting. Thank you so much for your content. I’ve never found anyone so relatable with so much common sense that verbalizes my living experience better than I could. I had no idea so many of my thoughts around food and body are universal.
    Thank you for your content. I will try to learn from your courage and start doing many of the things I have been putting off. I hope your trip went well.

    I only found your channel a few weeks ago and since then have watched many of your videos. I’ve seen your sensitivity, professionalism, and excellent advice in a great many of them. But this one…this takes my breath away. Your words go straight to the core of my existence: I don’t have to accept my body, but I do have to allow myself, as is, to exist and to take up space in the world. I know that intellectually, but emotionally it’s a different story. I need to discover how to allow myself to be. Your words are profound. Thank you so very much.

    Yes. I would like to see a woman in her 40s, with decades of binge/restrict, who has experienced anorexic tendencies and overeating, and over/under exercising, who has been 110lbs to nearly 300lbs, who’s finally in recovery for a couple years, with loose skin and flab as a result of all past behaviors, whose set point might be around 190lbs or so. I love Sarah’s content… but I haven’t seen that, regardless of age actually. That would help me. ❤️✨

    This reframing of the words acceptance to allowance makes all the difference. It's like what I heard you mention when I first started following you (and this is a rough paraphrase), word things to fit where you are now and reassess later to either change words or stay. Baby steps to the goal. I can't wait to hear your feedback on your retreat. I know good will come from it. Do you realize how you've changed since starting these videos? I've seen you go from a bit timid but warm and haltingly funny to animated, confident, engaging, fully humorous, able to laugh out loud and deliver the intended message in a very real pointed way! It's been a pleasure seeing your growth in your endeavor to help others/me.

Your approach is a far better fit for me, using but tweaking and rewording the principles of IE. Your video on allowing all foods and permission to eat is so on the mark for me as well. After all these years of making progress, now dealing with a broken body (MS), constant pain and failing me, that is a really, really sore spot. I am angry with my body, because now I lose all the things that I used to do to get through triggers, no more walking through the forest [or walking period], no more writing to others or journaling, no more dancing and so on. Hi Sarah, I would love to know what your thoughts are on treating binge eating like how one would treat an alcoholic. Whenever, I stay away from trigger foods completely, I do not binge. It's only when I allow myself a little bit of those trigger foods that I fall back into the binge eating cycles. There was a period of time that I was eating a ketogenic diet and I completely lost all my cravings for trigger foods.... however, I participated in a retirement party and had some cake and that was it....I fell back into my binge eating cycles.

      @RoyaDani Před 10 měsíci

      @@TheBingeEatingTherapist thanks Sarah! I watched it and I understand where you are coming from as far as not promoting abstinence if it's not working... however, you can say the same thing about an alcoholic that keeps falling off the wagon and starts over again. It doesn't matter how often you fail, you get back up again and try the abstinence and next time you are more aware of the triggers and try to avoid them. For example, I found out that drinking wine with a meal triggers carb cravings for me. Now I stay away from wine as well as sugar and bread. It is not easy and definitely not socially accepted for one to not consume carbs but I have never binged on protein or fat.....so in my mind I think the enemy is the carb and I see myself as a carbaholic.
      However, I do think that everyone is different and what might work for one person will not work for another.
      I also want to mention that I totally agree with your opinion regarding body positivity.
      I have just started following your channel and I appreciate your content. Thanks!

    • @TheBingeEatingTherapist
      @TheBingeEatingTherapist  Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@RoyaDani That's an interesting point you make. I guess for me (and I appreciate that my personal experience creates a bias) I found that chasing abstinence made my bingeing worse than ever, because it kept triggering last supper eating. I would 'blow it' and then feel compelled to eat all the foods I could because I was always starting over. I had to undo this psychological loop in order to recover.
      My experience was that my bingeing calmed down a lot (didn't completely vanish) when I knew I could have the food again and I wasn't being triggered by perceived future deprivation.
      You are absolutely right though, people's experiences aren't the same and up for anything alternative approaches to this that brings people freedom and peace ❤
