I was stationed on Patton Barracks in the 503rd Unit 1979 - 1982 Big Red One 7TH Army. I truly feel part of my soul is within the walls of those barracks with the many soldiers I served with. This was a part of my life that made me who I am today. Each memory was like each stone the barracks were made from. The little church, the NCO club, the mess hall the movie theatre the motor pool and the sounds of soldiers marching to cadences struck a chord that will play in my mind for eternity. I think these building are a part of history, representing when the victor became friends of the people in so many ways. A true representation of how a successful mission should be. Seeing the bases being toner down all over Germany seems to deliver a different message. This being our efforts and memories will soon fade of how we lived together in peace to rebuild a nation.
Was stationed in Heidelberg for Desert Storm and Joint Endeavor. A lot of good memories. And the best duty I ever had. Thank you for the memories. But the world has changed. Germany is now a united country. The people of Germany need homes, businesses, shops, schools, hospitals and parks. Thanks for the memories.
So many memories of Patton, like returning after a night out & taking the shuttle bus from Patton to Campbell to work. Where are the roommates we bunked with today? I always wanted return again & see it bustling with soldiers as it was back then. Please tell me that it is still standing. It must be just as it once was. John Tancabel 1970

Thank you Sabrina, this brings back a lot of memories from my time there in the mid 80's. I was attached to Centag which was the first building at the front gate.
I refereed a lot of basketball games at the Patton Gym, both intramural and base team, 1983-1987. I was Air Force working at the airfield and worked a lot of games with an Army member, Michael Adams. My last year an Army Major began officiating Ron Hover. I remember the sports director's first name was Moe. Very large black man, sometimes could get a bit angry but overall I enjoyed working with him.
Was at Heidelberg TDY in 2005. Lovely Base and beautiful city. Stopped back there on way to Munich in 2011 and 2015. It's heartbreaking to see how they let it go to seed. On the other hand it is their land and hopefully, after they tear it all down (such a pity) it will turn into something very wonderful. Berlin has had the same thing happen to the older east side of the city, and it's a good thing. Maybe one day we won't have to be in Europe and all the Money we have spent over there can be used here in the states.
Wow! I was stationed there from March 64 to Oct. 66.We might of had a beer together.. Definitely remember the Last Chance Saloon. Greasiest french fries around. (pom fritz) Worked at Cambell Barracks in the Personnel Division. Only have one buddy from there that I keep in touch with.

All over Germany they are tearing down these historical buildings. My old barracks, Johnson Barracks was torn down in 2005.
