    If I had a dollar for every single time, an American news station mentioned Denmark and happiness in the same context...

    • @AtotehZ
      @AtotehZ Před 6 lety +16

      Freedom does not equate happiness at all. With freedom comes the need for responsibility and worrying about taking care of your own interests. In Denmark many things are handled by the state. We live in a socialistic democracy on the free market.. We have a mixed economy.

    • @rickw7903
      @rickw7903 Před 6 lety +1

      Look at these "news" programs. Or more correctly, "programming". They are globalist creations trying to push socialism on American. There's an agenda and it isn't altruistic.

    • @AtotehZ
      @AtotehZ Před 6 lety +17

      +Rick W You can't seriously demonize socialism. If you do you simply haven't researched what you're talking about. The US has socialistic systems in place all over to provide a safety net for its citizens. Countries are socialistic in varying degrees and it's not something you can just change from day to day.
      In my opinion we have the ideal mix in Denmark. It does mean heavy taxes, but the upside is: Roads, water, schools(including university), study aid($625/mo if you live away from parents) libraries, medical aid, in large parts medicine and many other things are taken care of by governmental institutions. Aside from that it pays to work and you're not in debt after you've finished your education.
      This way you have freedom to chase your dreams, the government has your back for the most part and when you start working, what isn't taxes, is yours. This puts a lot less stress on the citizens. I am aware that Americans have a slightly higher buying power because of our taxes, but everything we get in return is worth it.

    • @rickw7903
      @rickw7903 Před 6 lety +2

      AtotehZ ...I didn't demonize socialism. I simply stated what I see as the agenda behind these American TV programs. Also, keep in mind, the outcome of the survey isn't a fact. It is just based on asking and getting an answer. I question the result due to things that are facts, such as high antidepressant use and suicide rate. Again, I think there is an agenda.
      Yes, it is true all nations use some degree of socialism. That's obvious to most.
      I want to inform you that I hold no animosity toward Denmark. I've been to Copenhagen three times and think it's a wonderful city. Best wishes.

    • @AtotehZ
      @AtotehZ Před 6 lety +8

      Rick W When you see an agenda that doesnt mean it'll bring changes. All changes in a country are discussed by people elected by the people and if the changes are big.. often for years.

    This is what real happiness is: overall life satisfaction and a sense of balance & fairness, NOT what most people perceive as happiness, which is basically joy.

      Would I mention "happiness", if I were to list some characteristics of Denmark and the Danes? Definitely not. I would mention different aspects of our Nordic model society, and I would mention our pragmatism and realism and our deep roots in a culture which has grown organically through thousands of years. I guess that we generally have more peace of mind than people from more chaotic countries. It may feel convenient for them to interpret this as "happiness".

  • @mchlbk
    @mchlbk Před 6 lety +97

    They succeed because they govern by what has actually been shown to work, instead of what's dictated by primitive ideological models. They are neither left nor right, they are mixed. It's an ideology of pragmatism. Smart people look to Scandinavia (Denmark, Norway, Sweden) to see how near-perfect societies are built.

Maybe few yes but not all. If you not know Denmark helps many like the africans. My husband friend and his organization build schools in remote area of africa from the funds of many individual. Don't judge if you don't like to be judge and always remember that all of us can be fall into immorality, selfishness and etc. Denmark help silently and heartedly and they are not bragging about it. I not a danish but a married one. Danish also helps many refugees and I made friends w/ few of them and danish really nice to them giving them a job ang shelter. There seem to be an awful lot of Americans in the comments, blaming homogeneity for our greater happiness. I guess ignorance really is bliss, West of the Atlantic. It's apparently inconveivable, that the reason we're better off than them, is due to better policies, less corruption and adaption to the modern world, and not because about 9/10 are ethnically Danish. We don't judge anyone based on their race or sexuality, but on their ideology. America was founded on the idea of being tolerant and embracing immigrants, but those who consider themselves most patriotic seem to be steering far away from these notions. I hope you can repair your broken political system, and get back on track.

    This is what life without corporate America looks like. I have experienced the same sense of happiness here in Germany. I don’t have 38 choices of whole grain cereal or 40 types of jelly, but as the main shopper for a family of 5 I never liked all that anyway. The market for clothing is extremely different too. There are far less name brands. The only clothing I ever see with wording are American themed shops. It really has come down to less pressure on the people to buy, buy, buy and more push for people to be outside. Here every village has a bustling park, a constant stream of people in the outdoor venues. People here really do spend more time face to face. Down time is considered mandatory. I can no longer find anything open at 9pm except an occasional restaurant and that is because you are never asked to leave. You sit and enjoy your time as you eat. It’s not 100% free of corporate pushing, but it has come to be the main cause of why America to me is so much less happy to me. I’m sure others would see this differently of course.

    • @kham3050
      @kham3050 Před 6 lety

      You could have argued that in Denmark you cant even have Corporate America. I was simply stating things as I have experienced them. I appreciate the 2 paragraph rant on how wrong I am. I didnt even comment on Denmark. I commented on Germany. I agree on the unity. It’s very hard to have unity in any community when you are spending all your time working, driving to work, etc. The point was more that America has put working before people. To make matters worse the people who say, cant find employment, are free to spend their time outdoors or getting to know the people in their community, but our environment has been changed to keep people apart. It is a choice and people need to start demanding change inside the US. I think this was great because when people see how things are in other places we can see that there are issues and ways to change our environment for the better.

    Danish people are thought not to brag. You are no better than anyone else, and you shouldn't put yourself above others. This very basic for danish people and it comes natural to most of them, as it would feel very awkward not to follow the social order on this one. Even when they win medals and competitions they always keep a straight face and talk about how great of a fight the other team put up.
    Janteloven (The Law Of Jante) explains most this behavior. People tend to behave like this in all the Nordic countries.
    I'm from Denmark and i'm happy here, but if i had to move somewhere it would be Norway, they have all this figured out even better than us danes.
