Is Westbury a dump? Watch and decide.

  • Westbury is a market town in Wiltshire with a very long history. In recent decades it has expanded with many new housing developments with commuters who like in may places don't support the shops too well.
    The High Street is a 1960s brutalist design and does little to those driving past to make them stop. It is one of those places when driving through on the A350; you would be forgiven for wishing not to stop. However, there is more to Westbury than its ugly High Street and fame for a White Horse carved into the hillside.

    Good video thank you. You were SO close to the sunken garden such a shame you missed it - it’s very pretty. If you’d just followed the path around the edge of the graveyard you’d have seen it. Literally metres from where you were.

      Sadly traffic is a problem for many towns and even villages that have main roads running through them. Thank you for your comment.

    Hi...just had your channel pop up and absolutely love your content. We were from Wiltshire but moved to Essex 24 years ago and miss Wiltshire and its stunning villages. Can I put in a request? Not too far from Westbury is the beautiful village of Edington with it's enormous stunning Priory Church. You will enjoy that I'm sure

      @@rolandstravels excellent Roland! While perusing through your archives, it has given me inspiration to return to beautiful Wiltshire in my camper and tour the stunning county using some of your videos as reference points for places to visit.
      Can I also put forward another suggestion which I'm sure would be of huge interest to many of your viewers both here and the US - Imber Village in the heart of the SPTA which, as it so happens is open this coming weekend

    • @rolandstravels
      @rolandstravels  Před 5 měsíci

      Often thought about Imber but apart from the church it’s only a collection of British Army built house shells for training.

    Very interesting! Wondering if you have been able to find out anything about the building (wall) visible from the library garden (with filled in window) - it is a beautiful building at the front, (Glovers Court, in Church Lane) and in the same style as the library. We heard it was an umbrella factory but it is tricky to find any references to it? It would be lovely to hear if you had any further info. about it! Thanks!

      It was built as a mill. Here’s some really good information.
