The best vehicle on that site has got to be the Foden recovery truck. The tanks, well, they're always awesome to look upon but the Mighty Foden has a menacing presence, a quiet fidelity all of its own. It can Torque the Talk!

Amazing how when things break, adaptability comes through. I think that being a fitter, that is a skill you have to possess. Well having been an apprenticeship served vehicle fitter. That’s my take on it. And my god during my time I have had to be adaptable. My own Ford Corsair fuel pump packed up 25 miles from home. I accosted a AA man and bought some plastic tubing from him. Took the pump off, pushed the tube through a grommet into the car. Connected it to the fuel line onto the fuel pump Now in the car,and back to the Carburettor. My Wife drove the car, while I pumped the fuel pump. Fortunately the fuel pump had only lost part of its stroke. And we got home,no problem. Next day ! We drove it to my garage, and I fitted a new pump. All’s well that ends well.
Love your vids and Mr Hewes vids. Keep em coming. I worked at Bovington for 17 years. But didn’t work much on the Tanks. I was on gearboxes (TN 12) and then APU’s, H30, and then Chally one and two, Perkins P4108. I won’t comment on the APU’s. Well! Yes I will, they were the most unsuitable engines ever to be used as APU’s. P4108’s ? Three bearing crank. That tells you all you need to know. H30’s ? Well a political decision at the time. Along with L60 main Engine. Supposedly being multi fuel. Well! No they weren’t. They had to be adapted to run on anything other than diesel. And that would have taken time. It would have taken hours to convert every tank. Imagine how many fitters you would need to convert them. It wasn’t just a question of flicking a switch.
Well I suppose that I will now be visited by the Men in Black, for divulging that info. Oh by the way the Russians knew all about it at the time. They knew we couldn’t run those engines on multi fuel, Well! at least not at the drop of a hat. Why? Because they tried it themselves. And then realised that converting them to other fuel would take time. 😀😀 You don’t have time in War to do that. Well! there “were” trials that took place to use multi fuel! In times of War. But I have signed the official secrets act. And yes I will stick to that of course. Oh my god I’ve just been followed home by two guys in a black Mercedes! Oh dear!

I was on my way back from Germany in my (sort of new) Ford Transcontinental when the throttle cable broke near Munich. As they did. Jury rigged a length of electrical cable (forgive me I had no baling twine) and came home left hand doing the throttle and trying to match revs and gears in the Eaton crash box....
This was how I found out why every Transconti had TWO throttle cables routed together. JIC.

I was just typing out 'look at Ackerman principle' then you mentioned it... from memory the line from the centre of the shock tube, passing thru the hole for the track rod end should pass thru the middle of the rear axle. The point is when steering the inner wheel has to turn more as it scribes a tighter radius then the outer wheel.

you definitely need to do something mad max with the old Provost, perhaps a donor for the Renault chassis conversion
does the Provo still have its little engine, one of the best engines ever, a little SA. Viper, make it hiss
all that messing with the starter motor, i should have done the same with mine when the braided earth cable on between the solenoid and starter disintegrated on me the other week, just another fixing in the field 5 miles from civilisation bar steward things

@@johnnunn8688 roger that AS snot SA, that's my dyslexia (and i can't spell that either without spell check) was a nice little jet for its time, ranging from 1200 lb thrust to over 2000 by the end of its life, used in a number of airframes including Shackleton's turn and burns, for its size it packs a little punch in a small airframe - a friend has his own Provost and three spare engines, nice to work on them
