My return rate is low, but so are my sales. No matter how much I list new items everyday, kill and relist older items, lowered prices after researching what other sellers are selling or sold items for.....nothing is working. My sales according to ebay is down 52%. I'm discouraged, but not giving up. Going to push through....things have to get better.....I hope!!

Southern General Store has 1.66 return rate. One was guy who returned as inad because no power cord included. It was in battery compartment, just like in the photos and description in the listing, and in his reply on ebay saying he was returning 3 hours after he signed for it. He returned it and power cord is still in the battery compartment.

I just recently sold a set of three mini cast iron dutch ovens(these were like mini dutch ovens) but they were new factory sealed. I put in the description not antique or vintage cast iron. I put that they were approximately shy of 2 cups capacity. I later told the buyer who sent me a messaged complaining that he didn't know what to do with them for they were too small for his needs. I gave him options on making smaller portions for that is what they are for. that was not good enough. I then gave a refund of $16.24 out of the $36.54 price paid and told him he could keep, donate or give away the pans.

@@WillsGood I have been selling on ebay for 24 years. Yes it has become a plague when back then only time you got returns even 10 years ago was because damaged items in mail or lost. Now people will return a tool to you clearly after it has been used stating didn't need it or wrong color while you are on the hook for all mailing. I had someone email me last week wanting a return on a shirt because he felt didn't fit right. They had the nerve to say the last seller didn't want the item back so I should just refund them without a return of shirt. I just eat the cost because I have way too much social anxiety to open a return. Maybe I'm a unicorn buyer, but I feel resentful because people like me are subsidizing all these chronic returners because sellers have to jack their prices up.

I just got my first return for a linen blouse on ebay. Buyer selected return for fit. She left a message to that stating she loves the blouse but it is a bit too small. It is a vintage deadstock linen blouse. I do include measurements with photos and in my description. I ALSO include that I will take all returns, even for FIT...and ask that they choose that option. As a buyer, I rarely buy clothes online because I have a problem with the "feel" of materials and the fact that so many listing (esp on POSH!) do not show material tags...or any measurements! I would rather have my customer return the item and maybe, buy in the future. In fact, once I get my item back and make sure she gets her refund, I will send her a coupon. I sell on ebay, posh, mercari and depop.

I do free shipping and my biggest problem with eBay, for 18 years, is when a buyer claims NAD due to fit. It instantly and unfairly makes us responsible for return shipping too. We sell brand new in the package bras and run about a 5% return rate. This is common for that product and most buyers are fair, but the NAD due to fit has always been a get out of jail free card. The buyer didn’t gain weight, the product is defective. 😮

@@paulaoh906 When the partial refund tool rolled out, it worked. eBay actually finally was fixed and worked. No more fraud, no more bickering. We rarely needed to use it because everyone started acting right. Then the new CEO came and ruined it and the fraudsters came back. If you use the partial refund tool now you will not get ANY of your final value fees back. Zero. The fees you lose are more than the 10 or 15% you’re allowed to deduct. He castrated it. 99% of buyers are honest, the one’s who falsely claim NAD due to fit, which is supposedly against policy, ruin it for everyone else. Doesn’t seem like a big deal until you get a greedy one who sees free shipping and buys 15 in three different sizes to have a try on party. They can say NAD and eBay will NEVER find in your favor. The partial refund tool worked and this BOZO ruined it. So, I took my good inventory BACK to Amazon and he still makes his millions per year with his Ivy League thinking.

My return rate hovers around 1% also. I am taking an active role in informing buyers about the benefits of reading descriptions and item specifics. The younger generations growing up having to make instant decisions will often get excited over just the item picture and purchase the item. Sometimes they don’t even read the description, which is hard for older generations to imagine.
So when there is a return where I had the info they needed in the title/description, I shoot them a short message, like “Heads up, in the future the best sellers give details in the descriptions so buyers do not have the hassle of making returns. It’ll save ya a lot of time and money to watch for the descriptions.”
The vast majority of returns in the last twelve months, the buyer did not know the description existed.
Also why I do not pay for return shipping.

For the GI Joe comic book, you can get that pressed for a few dollars to get the indentation out, you just need to make sure the presser is experienced or it can end badly. The lines along the spine are called spine ticks, which are flaws that grading companies take into account when coming up with a grade. I'm guessing that the buyer was planning on sending that book in to have it graded, but decided that the book wouldn't get the grade he was hoping to get and instead returned it.

Comics are tough - if you are trying to minimize returns on comics - try and take 24 pictures, all different angles (under light - which would show the indentations etc.) + try and list all the flaws you can see on the book. Spine ticks, spine wear, creases, folding, chipping, staining, foxing, scuffing, tears, rips, etc.....All that really matters to comic buyers. I list mostly comic books and honestly, it can take 20-30 mins to post one book - from researching price, assessing grade/damage/taking pics/writing a detailed description. It is alot of work compared to listing other items, but it is important to give the buyer an accurate representation of what they are going to receive. If all else fails, just say its low grade lol that way they'll know it is not a high grade book and if anything they'll be really happy that it was better than advertised...Comics are hard though - a 5.0 vs a 9.0 could be a $500+ difference in price (depending on the book)..

Just got my first return request after a year back in the game part time--it was a shirt returned for fit, which is inevitable if you sell clothes. I take photos of flaws with a chopstick pointing to issues with items, put clear photos of measurements into almost everything, and write clear descriptions including 'condition'. I try to under promise and over-deliver to keep returns to a minimum. Contrary to what most influencers say, I think many buyers DO read descriptions.

I disagree completely. I sell jewelry and my returns have went from almost non existent to getting a return a week the last few months. I have changed nothing from my listings protocol, i.e. complete descriptions (including size, condition, ect.) , numerous photos (different angles, close ups ,photos of any defects and measurement photos including size comparison) and I am also available to answer any questions and am proud of being able to reply to all within a 24hr period. 1 return was my fault and I owned it, 1 was ordered by mistake (why you would let someone go through the process of shipping an item you mistakenly ordered without canceling is beyond me) the other 8 were wrong size or looked bigger in the picture. Now if the buyers were reading all of the description and looking at all photos then tell me how with the number of photos as well as a measurement photo and item(coin) size comparison photo, with the size listed in the title and description, how are 8 items the wrong size or smaller than the photo? The only reason i can come up with is that some buyers have become lazy and reliant on the eBay return policy. They don't read the whole description or they don't look at all of the photos or they don't know their size or the size they are looking for to begin with or they don't curate their cart prior to checkout. These all fall to the responsibility of the buyer. I am not an influencer as you say, just an old man selling jewelry on eBay, and I'm telling you from my experiences recently the buyers are not doing the needed research prior to purchase.

I totally disagree. The first line in 75% of my listing description is "measurements in photos" and I get messages constantly asking measurements. I show a ruler in the SECOND photo and subsequent photos. They don't read or look at the photos. It's constant. I have a baby rattle listed. RATTLE is in the title, and it's in the rattle category. Question: "Is this a rattle" Woman's blouse IN THE TITLE and category and measurements are given, yet I get, "Is this women's?" It is constant. My buyers do not read. I just got a feedback saying she thought a toy set was new in the box. It says USED for condition, there is no packaging, description says "light signs of use" and yet she thought she was getting a packaged toy set.

Selling on Ebay in much too complicated. Ebay had dropped some of my items that were currently in the process of being delivered to a person which made it impossible for me to refund a crazy buyer's money. She then filed a dispute against me. Eventually she picked up the item at her post office so if I had refunded the money immediately, I would have been out the money paid for what I sent. I just got my first return request. Buyer's had the pants for a week. I wish the return policy was similar to mercari where you have 3 days to submit a return. Claimed item wasn't as described, but the tag attached to the pants that they sent me a picture of as not described was the tag I took a picture of and posted in the listing.

"Spine ticks" are those tiny creases and "color breaks" that happen as a comic book is read/opened. But yeah. my returns are doing really well thankfully. Maintaining that solid top rated status. And I too made the mistake once of thinking the box I was buying was what was actually inside. I made the mistake with a home theater receiver. The box was from their newer one , then the older one in the box. Not bad. Just decided to use it for personal use instead of selling.

Also, do you run sales and one last question do you price for example $14.99 vs $15.00? I'm learning it's really the small details that add up. Thank you for considering my questions. Thank you again, for your videos.

I replace all the batteries in my watches. It helped bring more money for a $1 battery and about 3 minutes in time. I once got screwed on a valuable vintage watch and glad I caught it before I sold it. I replaced the battery and it still didn't work. I listed it as non working and had no problem with the sale. Like you said, some people collect them. I started replacing them because I once sold them as you do and had someone try scamming me. Said he replaced the battery and the digital part worked, but not the analog part? He was SOL because he immediately tried canceling the sale after paying within seconds of me printing the label. He ended up disputing it with his card company and won, but eBay covered me. Im sure being a 18 year vet helps😂
My return rate is .60 as of right now. I have exploded with returns here lately on a certain item that I sell quantity of, people impulse buy and don't read anything! The title nor description. I've called ebay about it and they want me to take pictures of the returns and they will deny the request 🤷‍♂️ I am about out of those so once they are gobe, my returns should drop back to zero. Honestly, I hope I lose my "top seller" rating so my sales will come back!

I don't stress out about returns most times. It's not worth it to stress. But I did get a return request and a "not received" refund request this week. Doesn't happen often, but two such request in one day was a bit of a punch. The return request was a baby carrier that didn't fit well. Stuff like that I just don't take personally. Sometimes things just don't fit. We'll see if they actually return it before I issue the refund. The "not received" request went to Houston during the flooding and USPS said it was undeliverable and is being returned to sender. I'll finally be refunding them on Monday. I wanted to wait as long as I could to see if USPS would actually start it moving in my direction. Not that it would have mattered. It wasn't delivered at all, so the customer deserves some kind of compensation. And in this case, I'd rather have the good vibes then be stressed about an angry unsatisfied buyer. Operative words "in this case".

    QUESTIONS
Do you test video games, cassettes, VHS?
How many sq ft do you have dedicated to reselling and how many items do you have listed? I’m wondering about average space per item. I know space for photography and shipping are also included.
How does shutting your store off affect the logarithm?
I am recently retired and have started selling items from my home. I live in 700 sq ft with my family, 2 cats and a bird! For now shipping takes place from the trunk of my car. I keep tape and a box cutter in my car and just take my sold items to the recycling center and use what’s there to create what I need to ship my items. I would like to net an average of $500 a month to fund travel. I travel 1 -2 weeks every month, wonder if that creates too much inconsistency for the logarithm. I am trying listing one item a day using drafts even when traveling but a lot of my travel is international and I do not usually have internet access when out of the country, I travel cheep. I know I have a lot of challenges for creating a successful reselling business but at least I am clearing some “junk” out of my home.
Thanks for all you do, love all your channels!
    Happy swinging.

I’m an everything seller and my return rate shows as .56% (9 returns of 1606 transactions). However, this includes returns that were opened and never shipped back, and a return that was opened and then closed by the buyer. So the number is skewed, in my opinion. I don’t think eBay should be including returns that we’re never actually followed through on.

We are an everything reseller. .95% on return 15 of 1,575. We do free returns. And most returns are dumb reasons or the wrong reasons. 90% of the time the item gets relisted and sells again with no issues. Our other issue is the tracking not uploaded number. We use pirate ship and have been having issues with eBay not accepting the tracking. Pship says that eBay doesn’t clear out their old tracking numbers and it makes it look like I am trying to use an old tracking number. We’ve had numerous conversations with eBay with no resolution yet. So our tracking is around 98.98%. We sell between 550-650 items a month. Oh the life of a reseller.

QUESTION: Wondering how much offering returns affects your store? I’m a new seller to EBay, still selling more from items around the house & gifts from friends, but did just officially open my store since I want to make a side business of this. For me the main reason to offer returns is to be able to use the deduction tool if a buyer returns the item broken or damaged. To use the deduction tool you have to be a top rated seller and offer 30 day returns (buyer paid or free), or above standard and offer free returns. I'm TRS so I have buyer paid 30 day returns.

It doesn't matter what you put in the title when it comes to returns. People get the Dumbs and Dumb wins over good title any day. Sometimes they don't even look at the second picture. I once had a bakelite (a pre-WWII plastic. Really catalin but..pedant mode: off) necklace, so described in title and description, sold in the Plastic/bakelite category... returned because it was plastic! The buyer thought she was pulling a swiftie and getting real amber for the bakelite price and returned it when what she got was as described. Got it back and resold to a happy camper who wanted bakelite beads and was cheerfully restringing them as she typed positive feedback.

EBay is great for buyers like me (I collect rare coins, books, and autographs). I'll offer 30% off on make-an-offer items, and the offers are being accepted about half the time. Sellers need cash flow. I will offer 35% off for a while and see how that works.

I’ve been selling on eBay steady for about a year now and I keep getting a message from eBay to sign up for seller plus. I am assuming I meet all the requirements but I’m afraid of the one day shipping. I usually have all my packages out with in a day but there are instances it takes me 2 too 3 days. Is that something that should stop me from signing up. Can I just print out the labels until I drop them off ant the post office? And is it worth it? Does it pay off by selling more items? I only have 50 to 100 listings on at a time. I work 60 70 hours a week at my business and sometimes I just don’t have the time. But if it helps out a lot I can get help or make the time. Been watching for a long time. Great show!!

Continuing on, not sure if this is will be an immediate follow-up. A seller was sena clear pic of damage from me, two days ago. First she said, "so sorry, full refund," later, mealy mouth fudging. Most importantly, did YOU KNOW that ebay no longer offers in-person customer support? Did you know that their chat support is worthless? Not sure, if I'll go back to selling, as much as I did, in late '90's to late teens with this lack of support. Within the last 25 years, it seems that ebay doesn't care. I appreciate your celebration of ebay, but it is time to examine their nearly complete lack of customer support.
