Alfa Romeo Giulia 2.0l with 400hp Hybrid Turbo - boost and intake temperatures -- 29psi!!!

  • We did datalogging on the boost and intake temperatures of the gottuned 400hp hybrid turbo on the Alfa Romeo Giulia ti 2.0l. We looked at MES or multiecuscan datalogs versus JB4 versus the Vaitrix boost gauge direct wired to the map sensor.
    We purposefully heat soaked the car and evaluated how well the stock air to water intercooling system works as well as the potential for a heat exchanger upgrade.

I'm coming from the VW/Audi 2.0T world where there are multiple vendors for generic Stage 1/2/3 tunes like APR and IE and a handful of independent custom tuners like Ward Performance Tuning. So I actually just did a prosport boost gauge by tapping into the charge pipe with a small nipple to read boost mechanically (solely bc I wasn’t satisfied with the appearance of the plug and play vaitrix gauge) boost reads nicely up to 24psi on completely factory setup except for the GFB DV+ upgrade. My question is regarding vacuum tho, it reads a completely flat steady 0 at idle, there is no negative inHg. I was wondering, is the factory MAP sensor reading vacuum from somewhere other than the charge pipe? It looks like your vaitrix gauge is showing negative vacuum at idle if I’m seeing clearly in your video

    • @bhvrdr

I know everything’s controlled electronically on this engine so wasn’t sure if that’s different on this car by design or if it’s just because of the tap location I used that I would never expect to see vacuum there?

U dnt think u can get 6-700hp. Cuz on the kseries swap u do that an ur at 5-600hp stock block an it's aluminum. Compare too the alfa it's the same thing 2.0 with a turbo. Because this turbo gives more power in the upper rev band it doesn't necessarily have much more torque down low which is what can destroy things like transmissions and rods and axles. What do you say to people that may call you an idiot for pushing this car? I'm coming from the Subaru community where even though its "unreliable", pushing things are encouraged. I just made a post to the alfa giulia owners FB group asking if anyone would like me to do an install video on a downpipe and was immediately met with backlash by some guy "shaking his head" that i would even mention putting a catless downpipe on. Said it sounds like shit, does nothing, and smells awful. Where has the car community gone? Or are newer platforms always like this?

      @bhvrdr  Před 2 lety +2

      These cars are stout. Zf8 is awesome transmission. 2.0l is pretty reliable so far. That said the catless downpipe will not help much at all and has alot of drawbacks from instant warranty denial to sounding poor to bad emissions and smell to p0420 cel and definitely dont use the mini cat defoulers as they will mae the ecu think its running lean.

    • @EOtekk
      @EOtekk Před 2 lety +2

      The transmission is bulletproof and the entire motor rotating assembly is forged aluminum. The strength of the power train doesn't scare me. The surrounding components and rather unusual nature of the multiair system is what scares me. I don't have the money or resources to risk throwing away an entire car if my Giulia blows up.

The risk of crushing financial penalties is too high. (and it smells like hell!) You can get better flowing downpipes with high flow cats / GESI that essentially outperform the old catless pipes that we were throwing on our bugeye rex's back in 2002. I agree with the feeling though...especially on some particular euro forums. You have uber snob QV guys that dash any idea that a non-QV should be seeking performance improvements (What are ya, a poser?!?!) and the other guys who think it's perfect out of the box and we should all leave them alone, keep your warranty and resale value for when you trade it in to maximize your returns (or something).lol
