This movie really makes you _feel_ as though you're watching the movie where they go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu.
How dare you desecrate this film by messing up the quote?!
"We're going back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkey _off_ the menu!"
That quote is why this movie rises above all other masterpieces.
For the record, they didn't HAVE turkey at the actual first Thanksgiving!
@@Dimensioneer88 🤓
Your right it really makes you feel as though you're watching the movie where they go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu.
@@Memelord1112 thats right, they go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkey *off* the menu
As a non-american my entire understanding of thanksgiving comes from this movie.
The real story of Thanksgiving is gruesome and most other Americans don't know the truth because they teach a "family-friendly" version of the story. Basically the colonists who had arrived in America in the spring/summer were too lazy to plant corn and such even though the Native American tribe in the area tried to teach them the best way to plant corn and eventually it became Autumn. The colonists had no food because of their laziness but the tribe made sure to save up enough food to get themselves through the Autumn & Winter. So the evil & lazy colonists went to where the tribe lived and massacred them & stole all the food & had a big feast to boast about it. Well when I heard the true story the word lazy was only used once and I decided on my own to add the word "evil". And this is coming from a Latina with zero Native American ancestry. But don't just take my word for it, research it for yourself and make sure the information is coming from reliable sources.
Tldr; it's like the story of The Ant & The Grasshopper but the ants are the natives & the grasshoppers were the colonists but if the grasshoppers were murder-hobos.
@@abadgurl2010 This is actually incredibly false.
The first Thanksgiving came about with the story of Squanto. Squanto was a member of the Pawtuxet tribe who was kidnapped by a British sea captain and brought back to England, but then escaped and returned back to America. The Pilgrims weren't "too lazy" to plant food - or at least, not the ones actually involved in the first Thanksgiving. The came off the Mayflower in NOVEMBER of 1620 and then like half of them died of disease during the winter. There was no planting because it was dead winter. Squanto encountered them in the spring (March, specifically) of 1621 and knew English from being captive in England, so he was able to communicate with them and taught them how to survive. He also helped the settlers form an alliance with the Wampanoag tribe and when the first harvest came in at the end of Fall, Governor Bradford organized a feast and invited the Wampanoag and other friendly tribes. It's also worth mentioning that the alliance with the Wampanoag lasted more than 50 years.
The thing people forget is there were dozens of groups of pilgrims/colonists coming to the new world at the time. Yeah, some of them were horrible and jumped straight into committing atrocities (usually ones there sent to colonize for profit rather than make a new life) and others were peaceful and made friends with the local tribes (Roanoke colony anyone?). The Thanksgiving pilgrims were peaceful. I don't know who told you the bizarre Thanksgiving history you heard, but it completely counters well-documented history of the actual event.
But hey, you got the part about needing to research correct.
@@MerWhoPotLuck9 I don't know where you either got your story, clearly it's not the real one. The story is actually the one told in this masterpiece of a film
@@MerWhoPotLuck9 Aw, that sounds sweet :)

I live my life by the phrase "go back in time to get turkeys off the menu" it really helps me through my daily problems and helps my outlook on life. Truly a life changing experience what I would give to watch it for the first time again
It’s quality is truly unmatched
Wait, they went back in time? To do what?
@@civilizedmonkey1795 I dunno, something about going back to the first Thanksgiving to take turkeys off the menu
@@IcyDiamond no, I'm pretty sure they went back in time to the first Thanksgiving to take turkeys off the menu.
@@ItsMeLarky Ok now I know that’s bull crap, the movie is *ACTUALLY* about turkeys going back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu!
This movie has always had a place in the back of my mind. This always felt like a fever dream thinking back to it, and no one else I know remembers it. Thank you for bringing light to this, interesting, movie from my childhood
Dude same! I actually think I remember watching this in theaters for some god forsaken reason but when I describe the movie to anyone, they have absolutely no clue what I’m talking about. To be fair, I forgot about it too for the longest time.
Same
For some reason I feel like calling it a fever dream IS the fever dream itself kinda ironic and doesn’t make that much sense when I think about it which I’m not and I am but I’m not but I am whatever lol… THAT’S RIGHT!
2:04 hits much differently after the game awards
I'm watching this review about the movie where they go back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu on Thanksgiving.
This video is now an annual tradition
Free Birds is truly one of the movies of all time. The animation is, the story is, and the characters are. If you truly wish to have a Thanksgiving, be sure to watch this movie because it is.
OMG LUCARIO PFP GOATED
Genuinely tho, I found the movie pretty funny. I remember the trailers back in 2nd grade.
I like the part where the turkey says: were going to go back in time to the first thanks giving to take turkeys off the menu" and goes back in time to the first thanks giving to take turkeys off the menu.
The what movies? It is what?
Couldn’t have said it better myself
I watched this movie as a kid and forgot about it. When I remembered it years later I just convinced myself it was a bad trip
Same, actually
it was a good* trip
The other day I was trying to convince my mom that this movie existed
@Finally it's here 🅥 shut up
@Checkmark 🤓
Had to come back for more
Glad to have a round 2 this year!
it's almost time to go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkeys off the menu again
13 minutes is not nearly long enough for this cinematic masterpiece
i agree
Damn bots
Hey I know you. The internet is small right
He did say that his schedule was loaded
@@yppah_what do you mean
The best part of this video is how the entire time it's impossible to tell if he's joking or not
Same.. 0-0
Being honest, these more humorous and light-hearted tongue-in-cheek ones where Schaff doesn't take the video too seriously are my favorites, I love the editing
Well I guess that means you get to decide for yourself if it is good
i can tell he is being serious cause of him mentioning the fact that this is the movie where they go back in time to the first thanksgiving to get turkey off the menu
@@thevonshallow squidward: How original..
Cant whait for the annual video about the movie where they go back in time to the first thanks givving to get turkeys off the menu, thats right, the movie where they go back in time to the first thanks givving to get turkeys off the menu
I actually have this movie on DVD 😂
I've never felt more like a person now that I have been graciously reminded that this movie is a movie. It had voiced lines, characters, setting, plot. I am changed knowing that theywentbackintimetothefirsthanksgivingtogetturkeysoffthemenu. I will hold Jake close to my heart always.
It was also the first movie to make Freebirdbillion dollars at the box office. Almost made as much as Morbius. Almost.
Free birds still has my everlasting respect for being one of the only new kids movies in recent times that is about Thanksgiving
Especially since there are like thousands of new movies about christmas
Considering the only competition is Charlie brown, I'd say it's the top contender for the holiday.
@@masonjones7777 uhhh what about Garfield’s thanksgiving??
@@skipperringo people would have to remember it exists first.
@@masonjones7777 true
Ever since this video, the stars for the movie went up really fast.
Had this, cross, shrek, and a Tinkerbell pirate movie on disc. Used to watch them all the time, so much I remember the entire story and plot of each. To every detail.
Fun fact, 2021 was the year we had the 400th anniversary of Thanksgiving. Yeah, imagine that we have been celebrating a holiday for 400 years.
All thanks to the turkeys who went back in time to take turkeys of the menu
Wait, I haven't seen the movie in a while. Do the turkeys go back in time to the first Thanksgiving to take turkeys off the menu?
@@biggiecheese3753 Yes, the turkeys do indeed go back in time to the first Thanksgiving to take turkeys off the menu.
@@faelunir2246 no no no you’ve got it all wrong THEY go BACK in TIME to the first THANKSGIVING to TAKE TURKEYS of the MENU, you get it?
Schaff really just unlocked a hidden memory here. Haven’t seen this in years. This the greatest thanksgiving movie of all time. Because it’s the movie where they go back in time get turkeys off the menu.
Helllllll yeahhhhhh
With A TIME MACHINE! (lightning strikes)
Bro I loved this movie
I remember when Reggie said "it's free birding time!". truly a masterpiece!
I'm so happy that this video exists. Free Bird truly is the moviest movie ever where they go back in time to the first Thanksgiving to get turkeys off.
