Girls Generation Was definitely a different type of group in Korea especially when you're listening to music and style with their voices and range as performers and vocalists

That's not actually true (except Dami being a fan, ofc). Gee was both composed and written by E-Tribe who did a bunch of stuff for Happy Face, but they're not the CEO(s) of the company.

Actually, there were not much groups back when they debuted. The next big group debuted 2 years after them which was 2ne1 in 2009. It was really a boy group dominated industry. These girls paved the way for girl groups in korea, and kpop to the world. I would definitely have to agree that their music is timeless compared to older boy groups. If I heard The Boys and Gee in the supermaket, I wouldn't even bat an eye and think that it's just another new kpop song. The MVs I wouldn't say are dated. It's not wrong to say that it is but a perfect word to describe them would be time-appropriate. If 4th gen ggs dressed like this, then that's dated. Hahaha.
Anyways, I recommend you guys to listen to their debut song Into The New World. It's super iconic! Alongside Kissing You and Lion Heart. You will soon discover that they are the queens of concepts. They are so versatile and have a diverse discography!
Well you did have 3 huge girl groups all debut the same year: SNSD, Wonder Girls and Kara. Brown Eyed Girls actually debuted the year before SNSD (2006) but didn't hit it big till 2009. There was also Davichi, who is still going strong. But you're right there weren't very many girl groups back then (Jewelry was the big exception).
Wondergirls was reigning until their Gee exploded, Kara is there too, T-ARA
Oh yeah, I forgot about Wonder Girls. Hahaha. They were one of the few groups alongside 2ne1 who at least made some buzz internationally at the time.

Yes! This totally brought back so many memories. SNSD was one of the first groups that brought me into Kpop and I remember watching compilations of them being dorks on variety shows. It's hard to describe how much influence they had on Kpop in general. Trainees are still learning Into The New World choreo like it's basic training. Taeyeon, their kid leader, is still my ultimate bias to this day. So glad you reacted to these!
Also, yes! Please do more. May I suggest F(X) (Jessica from SNSD's little sister Krystal was in this group), Red Velvet, Miss A, 4 Minute, and Sistar. Also maybe one first gen'r, BoA, specifcally her western debut, "Eat You Up"? Oh, how could I forget The Wonder Girls?! Definitely The Wonder Girls (Tell Me, Nobody, Like This, and Be My Baby).

(1)each member has her own section of the song, the multiple switchups represent the change from one perspective to the next. (2)the reason yuri was wearing sunglasses was because of an eye stye.
(3) "lets bring it back to 140" refers to both the minute/second mark in the studio version of the song(the music video has the added intro) as well as the beats per minute in that section of the music.
My bias and first ULT in kpop is girl in glasses aka Kwon Yuri, the OG inventor of viral fancams! "Fun" fact: she had an eye stye when filming, hence the glasses, and could not see sh*t but killed that choreo anyway.
Agree that SNSD walked so that others could run, there's a sone in every current group and their debut song, Into the New World is something all gg trainees have to learn. ITNW, is so iconic that it has been used as a sort of unofficial anthem for major events in SK from pride parades to #MeToo rallies and protests against the government. I really really recommend reacting to it and GENIE (because iconic) and then perhaps you can get into their more "recent" stuff (from 2015 lol) Lionheart, You Think and especially All Night 💖
Their japanese discography is also impecable. A few faves: Mr Taxi, Flower Power, Galaxy Supernova.
For me that time in Kpop was defined by SNSD and 2NE1.The mvs for Go Away, Ugly and I am the Best would be a great introduction to 2NE1.

The member with the sunglasses is Yuri (my fave along with Sunny). Kess pointed out her dancing which isn't surprising when she is the 2nd best dancer of the group after main dancer Hyoyeon. Sooyoung and Yoona are also in the dance line.

I think G Dragon really started that 'new comeback, new hair' thing that we see so much popularized these days. Also in 'I Got A Boy' all the switch ups think of each change as a different girl talking, telling her story about her BOy and the song becomes a conversation. I love that.

SNSD songs and harmonies are legendary, that's not a surprise to anyone who follow Kpop for any considerable amount of time. SNSD choreography have been catchy and clean since the very beginning with "into the new world". But what new kpop fans unfortunately missed out on is the fact that SNSD have very very strong vocals compared to their peers, let alone gen4 girl groups (vocal groups like Mamamoo excluded).
Taeyeon has an insanely successful career as a solo singer. Her "killing voice performance" will give you an overview of the diverse sounds that she has and really showcase her vocal prowess. TTS, a subgroup comprised of Taeyeon/Tiffany/Seohyun (the 3 main vocals) has songs focused around vocals as well. Their "cater 2 u" performance to show how well they can sing live.
With all the qualities require for them to be every idol's idols for over a decade... the one thing that solidify their fanbase is their bond with each other. They're loud, chaotic, funny, emotional, messy, clumsy, witty... and they're not afraid to show that on camera. That is the single most attractive thing about SNSD to their fans. Their appearances on variety shows have always been amazing entertainment. (you can look up "SNSD 10 years savage moments")
With all that being said... welcome to the fandom because you know you're hooked hahah

Girls generation are one of two of my favorite girl groups that I love, around that time i liked 2ne1and 4minute , but from girls generation my bias were in a tided between Yoona and Tiffany but when Taeyeon started with her solo i started liking Taeyeon more, and they have a lot of songs that i love, it's hard to choose what song is my favorite,,,,

Btw, I Got a Boy was choreographed by Napoleon and Tabitha, a.k.a. NappyTabs (who were a big part of So You Think You Can Dance). They also choreod Exo's Call Me Baby, as well as the Make Your Move movie (starring BoA and Derek Hough of Dancing With the Stars.)
also the reason Kwon Yuri was wearing sunglasses sometimes in the I Got A Boy mv was because during filming she go a stye and i think the guy in the mv is Jongshin from CN Blue

Kess, as you like 'The Boys' so much, I'd suggest that you check out a couple of live performances they did on US Late Night TV (like Dave Letterman) during their US 'The Boys' tour.
Girls' Generation and 2NE1 definitely propelled k-pop into the bigger scene in the early 2010s. They were the first k-pop groups a lot of people had seen. I will always remember, I was watching youtube on the TV in 2011 and CZcams randomly showed me The Boys and I'm The Best. Those were the huge kpop hits of 2011, before Fantastic Baby and Gangnam Style, and I would have never known them if CZcams didn't randomly showed them to me.
The funny thing is I hated both of them, I thought those were the weirdest and worst songs I had ever heard ! This is hilarious considering how I worship those songs right now.
Thankfully CZcams showed me another 2NE1 song in 2012 "I Love You" and that's how the journey truly started. I Love You instantly became one of my favorite songs and 2NE1 became my favorite group.
The thing is at the time there were so many other incredible groups in kpop, but I didn't know them. Only in 2015/2017 I started discovering the rest and becoming a real kpop fan.
I'd love if you reacted to their debut next! And definitely yes to introducing more older groups, SHINee are my first vote 💙 and more girl groups from that era too

yeahh i remember back when they realeased the teaser for the boys, almost every agnecies push back or reschedule their artists comeback, just because they scared that they can't compete with GG... and members of GG is highly respected in korea, is just wild how big they are in korea like every modern girl groups and sometimes even boy groups look up to them. #GG4EVA
p.s and they did it when the internet is not widely accessable and they weren't soo many social media available back then
You should also look at their japanese releases as well, their sound was a bit different from their korean stuff, but just as good, if not better. Mr. Taxi, Paparazzi, Flower power, come to mind. IGAB basically started this trend of having like 3 different songs in one, and was very polarizing when it came out, people either loved it, or hated it, though it seems that SM does this at least once with the other girl groups, Red Velvet's Zimzalabim, Aespa's Next Level. I really liked Jessica (the other main vocal) a lot, was gutted when she left/got kicked out, the story isn't really clear, I still support SNSD, but I miss her voice in the group. The sunglasses girl in IGAB is Yuri, and the reason she was wearing sunglasses, is she actually had a stye on her eye during that day of filming, so that's why she sometimes has sunglasses, and sometimes not, she is part of the "dance" line SHYY (Sooyoung, Hyoyeon, Yoona, Yuri).
Someone else mentioned some other 2nd gen groups, definitely f(x) as the sister group to SNSD, with their own incredible sound and style. Secret, Kara, 9muses, Dalshabet would be good groups for you to check out. One other group who had some awesome music, but was overshadowed by controversy regarding overly sexy concept (being forced on them by the company) was Stellar.
Almost every K-Pop group that does Japanese releases have different sounds than their Korean stuff. Japan LOVES their Guitar music, Rock in general (and maybe even Metal), whereas Korea has been still stuck in the 1950's up until just recently. Just about the only group that I personally know about that sounds close to the same for both Japan and Korea would be Itzy. Voltage is AMAZING and really only the language is different, they have mostly the same sound in Korean.
Newer Kpop fans have no idea that Gen 2 was the Golden age of Kpop

Girls' Generation IS THE MOTHER OF KPOP
Currently, Sooyoung, YoonA, Yuri, Seohyun are all doing mostly K-Drama. Sunny is doing variety shows. Hyoyeon is doing DJ. Tiffany is doing solo music and music shows like Chicago. Taeyeon is doing mostly Solo music since 2015 (most recent Album is INVU in 2022 and nominated in 5 categories for the upcoming MAMA) and one weekly variety show. Jessica is doing her own fashion company since 2015 and recently I heard she joined a Chinese K-pop group.
Fun fact: back when "the boys" mv TEASER dropped, a lot of groups pushed back their comeback so that they won't have to compete with SNSD.

Definitely recommend checking out their variety show stuff they are so funny my bias is taeyeon but honestly I've been wrecked by all the members at one point or another.
After kara, wondergirls, & snsd debuted in 2007 it really did become a girl's generation with the rise of many prominent girl groups. In the years after 1st generation girl groups disbanding there weren't really any prominent girl groups and all the popular groups were boys. Snsd were one of the few groups who actually stood on equal footing with boy groups

A true Legend in kpop world. They are the ones who bring kpop to the world. World records and first of first in kpop you'll see it in them. You'll gonna see the growth in their group and how much passion they have for music. They brings us a different styles, diff beats and variety in their songs, their outfits and images, and the theme they used on each song they are releasing. You'll definitely see the evolution of kpop on them. They are on their 30's now and still active on music industry and on their individual career and up until they introduce their selves as Girls' Generation for 15 yrs. Now that they had a comeback it's truelly amazing that they surpass the 10 yrs age of most kpop girl group who disbanded and 15 yrs is not easy man hehehe I'm really happy and emotional for their comeback cause we've been waited for this for 5 yrs and now here they are again performing and did their tv promotions and shows, it's nostalgic and memorable cause they had this comeback for all the SONE that waited, they truelly show how they really love their music, their group and especially us SONE. This whole video gave me such secondhand glee! I just... my face matched both of your faces. I used to perform these songs as part of a troupe, and it's been so long... I remember when each of them came out beyond Gee (which was my first kpop song ever, so no wonder I was hooked by them), and this is just such a powerful journey, I don't think I've ever watched someone get introduced to their back catalogue like this, it's just... skhfsi;urf... I don't even have words. But Han's "RIGHT???" is 100% me. And Kess's overwhelmed reactions to each new things was me back then and, quite honestly, still now, just with the ability to know that it's coming. Han not being very clued up on the individual members makes sense now that I'm at the end of the video, having wondered the whole time 'Oh no, is she going to talk about Jessica...' XD Just like, one of the core 3 Vocal Mains, gone suddenly. "Catch Me If You Can" even being re-recorded after she left. But the group really rallied, and honestly there'd been tensions for a while, no one on the inside was blind-sided.
Anyway, I'm team Taeyeon and Sunny forever, and I think that, if I were to suggest an MV, I'd say "Bad Girl", one of their Japanese releases (which all have a different flavour to the Korean releases, but are wicked good), which is one of my favourite looks on Taeyeon... oh! and also "Paparazzi"! Gosh, the production value on that one... so sick. And just an intolerably good bop: "Party". That one was during the sort of... I don't recall exactly what it was called, but the Tropical EDM sound, all sunsets and palm trees and fruit salads, just... so good. And Sunny looks like a mermaid in that one.
11:15 - 11:34 this makes sense bc The Boys came out in October 2011 and Exo debuted in March/April 2012. SM definitely upped their production/film quality throughout the 2011-2012/2013 time frame
