"The Redeemer" is an oratorio-like work in three parts: the Prophecy, the Sacrifice, and the Promise. Scored for choir, orchestra, and soloists, it was written by Dr. Robert Cundick, former Salt Lake Tabernacle organist for 27 years. This video captures the performance by The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square conducted by Dr. Mack Wilberg on the 30th anniversary of the work's premiere.
The creation of "The Redeemer" grew out of a desire by Brigham Young University professor of music Ralph Woodward to produce a work of genuine stature that would have meaning for not only Latter-day Saints but all Christians. He selected the text from all four of the standard works of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He then approached Dr. Cundick to compose the music for the work, which was completed over an intense 10-week period in late 1977. The work was premiered by the music ensembles at BYU in the spring of 1978. Interestingly, a significant number of The Tabernacle Choir members singing in this concert were students in that original performance.

I hadn’t heard this since my mission nearly 25 years ago…and it was just brought to mind again as I thought about Nephi’s vision this week. It’s some of the most beautiful music I’ve ever heard, set to the most true words ever spoken. Glory to God for inspiring artists to make great works!
I can't wait to move to The State of Utah
I sang this oratorio in New York 20 years ago. I sang the second bass part. It gives me goose bumps every time I heard it.
The TABERNACLE CHOIR IS "TOTALLY AWESOME" & I ❤ LISTENING 🎶 ❤️ TO THEIR MUSIC!!! THANK YOU EACH FOR SHARING YOUR TALENTS WITH US!!!😊

I can hear wonderful Ralph Vaughan Williams influences in this piece. Particularly with those lovely rustic sounding lines coupled with rich and expressive harmony.

fab! I don't agree with your politics.. but I love your love for Christ... and your commitment.

I love that you can respect something like the music from a group that you don't whole heartedly agree with. That's the wonder and joy of accepting others the way they are. Cool!
Magnífico
The music is marvelous as usual for the Mormon Tabernacle choir, but Mack Wilberg has aged well, this was done in 2008 and he looks essentially the same as he did in the Easter 2017 broadcast... He is an excellent arranger and conductor (he has done a lot to improve the choir and orchestra since he became the main director of the choir), so I am hopeful he will be around for many years longer.
AMEN!
very nice voice m

Good music
Una de las sopranos, gritona. La mezo, bastante buena. El baritono ligero, muy bueno. Lo mejor el coro en su conjunto: extraordinario.
So cute 🥰🥰
Super.
Belíssimo divino celestial
Beautiful ! 🎶
your comment is so offensive! Know ye not that the full name of the LDS Church is: THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTER-day SAINTS. There you are: the Saviour's name is placed within the very words of the name of the LDS people and His church.
THEY DO NOT MOCK HIM. I know many LDS people. They Love and Serve JESUS CHRIST.
Soy catolico y me encantan los coros del Tabernaculo.
😊👍👍👍👍
Jesus said listen to and do what I say and start by forsaking all first. Luke 14 Luke 6 John 14
This is not a joke or something, someone whispered to my ears saying, serve my people... (if I heard it correct, its not clear tho). Is there voice over of a man on the first part? I dont know what it is but it makes me feel something. could some pls help me.
What do you mean by "on the first part"?
you'll have opportunities, take them
Are you talking about the musical intro? Before the 'obvious' man begins to sing? Bassoons can often sound like deep voices. But perhaps you did actually have a revelation. This is very special. Please believe in and act on what you heard. That still small voice whispered to you.
C for some blue moons it
Where do they get the word "Easter" from and what exactly does it mean?
