- In House of the Dragon House Hightower is one of the Major players. They represent a part of the Green Faction in the Targaryen Civil War known as the Dance of Dragons. Question?
We know Blood and Fire was written by Maesters to make all the women seem evil and the males seem valiant and daring, do you think, Sunfyre is dead, and that Aegon, will make Rhaenyra summon a dragon the same way she did in The Red sowing, but Cannibal will show up and consume her, with her believing it to be Silverwing?
I can't see why Rhaenyra wouldn't seek Silverwing instead of hatching more Dragons
And if Saera is the one who later returns Rhaenyra and Daemons son
I also noted, under the Valyrian Culture Rhaenyra could inherit, but not under the faith of the Seven she could not in the eyes of the Old Houses under the faith of the seven
I needed this history lesson. Thank you ❤️🩸🐉🔥
Gray can you so some videos on Dune? Pretty please??!!!
Old Town Has left a Bad feeling in me. Self Righteous Cravens & Trifling Schemers. Vatican Vibes thru & thru.
Joe The Magician, Gray Area, and David Lighbringer could legitimately teach a college course on this entire series. NEXT LEVEL analysis 🔥🔥🔥
Rightt!! I want them to teach ASOIAF class for us all!!
Agree and Robert from In Deep Geek.
Add Radio Westeros and History of Westeros
At this point i bet they could write better the last books than Martin ever
🙌🏼🕶️👑👸🏼 Agreed
It's starting to get to a point where im more knowledgeable in a ASOIAF history than my own world 😂

Between the Forgotten Realms’ Toril, LOTR Arda, HP, and ASOIAF I’m steeped in otherworldly lore myself. Nice to meet a fellow traveler ✌️
Same. And the same with Star Wars. I once got to a video that said “Okay we’re all nerds here. A bunch of other nerds kept galaxy building from the first 3 films, and figured out all of the physics, genetics, and astrophysics of every planet and being, and kept on going, yet the movies never kept up.”
As Helaena said: "I'm afraid... not the dragons, the rats!"
Daemon you mean
Gotta tell you this: you are an amazing storyteller. As a college educator, scholar, and artist, I especially appreciate your genius in delivering narrative fictional prose so convincingly that one would swear that Westeros and all its people are real. Maybe they are . . . In any case, please keep the stories coming. This Baltimore elder is one of your biggest fans!
Wow, thank you!
@@GrayArea I 💯% couldn’t Agree more. She’s Gifted🎁@ this.
Could you have come across any more smug?
@@iamza. nothing nice to say Couldn’t U have kept ur opinion to yourself? Hate much?
@@Mr_RaZiM yet here you are, commenting as well. Hypocritical much? Try being self aware once in awhile, mmmk.
Never marry a Hightower. Jorah Mormont could tell you.
Yes to this. The ancient conspirators, oblivious to the danger from beyond the wall. They have been at it for so long and are in the end so unwise. Aegon Dragonbane did not know the lore of Ice & Fire. His mother never had a chance to tell him. Presumably some combination of Daemon as greenseer and Bloodraven while still in service to the realm brought it back at least to King Egg. This series has been a godsend to all of we Ice & Fire nerds. This is great work indeed.
I needed this to listen to and distract me from back to school shopping chaos for my sweet summer children 😅
You got this!
The measter theory is too good not to be true. I will believe it is even if GRRM never addresses it in his books lol.
They didn’t want Maegor to produce an heir because Maegor was more like Aegon and Visenya-a true dragon lord. They wanted Aeneys’s line to shine thru because they knew all his descendants would be weak like him…easier to overthrow & not quite so magical. Aeneys’s also wouldn’t have as strong of an affinity for dragons. Hence why it seems like it’s always life or death whenever one of the Targaryens tries to claim a dragon in Fire & Blood/HOTD. Maegor claimed Balaeryon so easily it wasn’t even talked about in the books.
i think otto knew the conspiracy. otto was too focused for a 2nd son. plus he had alicent read to jaehaerys while he was on deaths door. otto was very *SUS* pimping his daughter out not *ONCE* but *TWICE*
alicent on her death bed even remembers reading to Jaehaerys. Yea the greens were agents of the citadel/Oldtown. Poor sacred dragons, and innocent small folk. they were the real victims.
Stay frosty GrayArea! Love ya work and your voice!

🤗Hey, new-ish subscriber here. Your videos are top notch, but I also wanted to tell you how soothing your voice is! With so many HOTD and GOT videos using AI voices, yours is truly a breath of fresh air. Thank you so much, keep it coming! 🫶🏽
This whole video raises the question how with all the Treason there was ever an Oto & Allisent Hightower as Magor should have ended the whole line.
I know I'm in the minority, but I feel like the Maestors lied about how bad Maegor was. I feel like because he fought against them to the point that he almost got rid of them completely they have exaggerated how he and his mother were. I don't trust anything that they say. Lol
Facts I just don’t believe Maegor was that bad and I won’t tolerate any Visenya slander 🙂↔️
Oh they DEFINITELY did
I could see that being true.
This video was so authentically lay out and so good.
The fact that in lore the Maesters claim they don't know the origins of Oldtown but I'm sure they do, and are covering it up to hide their mysteries.
I read somewhere that Daenerys being break of chains might be the one who bring out the Maester schemes or it could be Euron as he goes to sack Oldtown.
Especially love the ASMR quality of Grays’s voice as she reads her works. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 ‘n like Ser Simon the Slow Clap right now.

@@GrayArea THANK YOU HOLY SHIT IM GONNA CRY 🥹🥹🥹😭😭😭
So it took the high septum 7 days to figure out “hey this dude who burns down cities that don’t submit to him will burn down OUR city if we don’t submit to him” real groundbreaking stuff there
I just feel like it was so obvious that House Hightower , Starry Sept, and the Faith were blatant traitors to the crown time and time again. Yet somehow they always got played. It's like when Otto rolled up to Dragonstone talking about "Aegon was always the heir and you ( Rhaenyra) and your father are just the last one to know." LIKE ALWAYS PLAYING IN THEY FACE
So true
hold on, what, Tyrion thinks Pycelle betrayed Rhaegar? Was this when he told Aerys that Rhaegar was planning to make moves at Harrenhal tourney? Or did he find out that Rhaegar was at the Tower of Joy, so Aerys knew to send Gerold Hightower there to force Rhaegar to come back to KL?
and yeah Runciter is hella sus.
Pycelle betrayed everyone except Tywin. Pycelle Connington and Tywin was his Rhaegar 😂🤣
@@GrayAreaI mean, Tywin was a man’s kind of man! I totally buy Pycelle being deeply in love with the Old Lion! 😂😂😂
I love and appreciate how often you give us such fantastic content! Ive been a fan for so many years now and you just get better! 🎉❤
I really think that the Hightowers and the maesters (maybe in conjunction with the children of the forest but I'm not 100% on that bit yet) worked in conjunction to bring down the dragons because they were too powerful and killed too many innocents and I think this all stemmed from the story being told in House of the Dragon - or it at least reignited the Hightowers original purpose - their original purpose being to rid the world of dragons because of the power imbalance it causes.
So my theory is that all the black stone around the world is Valyrian type stone fused by dragons HOWEVER the reason it is oily in some places is because throughout the aeons dragons have been used again and again to bring the downfall of mankind, think the Doom of Valyria but it happens every couple of thousand years and during that time the knowledge of the dooms and why they happened are lost and the cycle begins again.
The Hightower base is the most primitive of these black stone structures so it tells me it was the starting point of this "technology" (dragons) if you look at the ASOIAF map the black structures get more impressive and elaborate the further east you go until you get to Asshai which is a city built of the black stone however it is oily which tells me a Doom happened there (plus the fact everything is dead and nothing grows there) I think after that Doom happened the people with dragons started heading back west and landed in Valyria causing yet another Doom until we get to the current books where it seems the dragons might be on track to cause a Doom again.
History is a wheel and the only way to break it is to install someone on the throne who does not have the same passions and faults as normal men, someone who isn't just one person but an entire history or an entire network in a single human body so history is remembered and never repeated, I think this is why Bran is crowned because that's exactly what happens.
Isn’t Euron headed to OLDTOWN in the WOW. He’s headed that way and will destroy old town and raid the citadel. That’s the reset, we shall see!!!
Yeah that’s the theory.
Lord Leyton is about to end the who greyjoys and their little fleet
this was one of the best a song of ice and fire/game of thrones videos I've ever seen on CZcams and I've probably watched thousands. good job.
Thank you so muchhhhh 😁😆
House Hightower for sure is up their with fave houses now. Also never looked at the maesters like the bene gesserit but now i will
Quickly becoming my favorite thronesverse account to follow.
The pen (or quill in this case) is mightier than the sword (and dragon?). Knowledge is power!
There’s a reason why these sayings have been around for hundreds if not thousands of years. There was a reason why the church were the only ones who could read and write then later apposed that the King James Bible be translated into English (and other languages) from Latin because when the lower classes started to read and write in small numbers it was only in English and not Latin so they could still tell you what was written in the Bible and because religion was so important to the population they still could push their agenda and the people wouldn’t know any different.
Completely agree that there’s a conspiracy between the Hightowers & Citadel. Now the Hightowers in the main series are different from other Hightowers. If I remember correctly Sam hears that the Hightowers in control during that story are into magic. It will be interesting to see how GRRM inserts the Hightowers in The Winds Of Winter
Post a video every Sunday to keep us at bay
Maybe the rat king isn't Larys but Otto
Maegor was my favorite king. No false promises, just actual Blood and Fire.
I’m reading about Maegor the Cruel and I don’t consider him to be that bad. His personality is quite similar to Daemon. Maesters slandered them to be worse than how they really were. I don’t see Daemon completely responsible for Blood & Cheese. In the book or TV, he never asked for Jaehaerys’ head. In the book, raven had a message saying a son for a son. The assassins don’t know who is who. The target was botched.
Then for TV, Daemon clearly states to target Aemond and it’s open ended if he ever agreed having Jaehaerys killed because the scene is cut after Blood asked what happens if Aemond isn’t there? And in a way, Rhaenyra is sorta responsible for Jaehaerys’ death when she told the council she wanted Aemond and Daemon only recruited B&C to avenge for his wife’s son.
Okay, Daemon did kill his wife, although in the book, that’s not clearly stated. He was in the Stepstones when Rhea Royce had her accident. Maegor had 6 wives and killed two of them. I like what I’m reading from Maegor. He’s not Homelander bad where he’s unredeemable. If we can’t get a series about Aegon, give us one of Maegor. We get Balerion either way and Visenya.
House of the Dragon S3 better deliver. It’s been 18 episodes into the series and we’re supposed to be at war already and we’ve only seen two battles: Stepstones and Rook’s Rest. The former isn’t part of the Dance. Is it called the Dance because they want to dance around a war and not have one? Rhaenyra and Alicent needs to start doing some evil Cersei shit. Stop trying to make them friends again. Fight!
So ridiculous to have Alicent not have Rhaenyra captured or vice-versa. Stop the whitewashing for these female characters and make them scheme. Writers don’t want to make Rhaenyra crueler than she is. If she’s little miss perfect, the Storming of the Dragon Pit is not going to make sense. If HOT D S3 disappoints, the IP should be on life support.
Some Reddit posts compared ASOIAF to Star Wars.
HOT D S1 = The Force Awakens
HOT D S2 = The Last Jedi
Now I don’t think HOT D is comparable to the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy. But I do think the fandom is headed into that toxic fandom. I read how House of the Dragon is so boring and nothing is really happening. How they only tune in for the dragons. If S3 disappoints, then put to rest on anything GRRM related. HBO keeps screwing up. Eventually, the lore will get stale and overhated like Star Wars currently is.
The extent of George's creation is just astounding! That's why I can't part from it and still hold out hope for the ending. It also makes me somewhat sympathetic as to why it has taken so long. I mean, how do you end something that's so extensive??? All the history, all the lore, the main story itself. It's astronomical.
The Hightowers were always thirsty for power they thought they found it with Maegor but that didn't happen because he was determined to do what he wanted to do, if in fact they gave her moon tea they sealed her fate🤷🏾♀️.
They thought they found with Alicent but the Blood of the Dragon and the Beacon of the Hightowers proved to be almost as crazy as two Targaryen's having a baby, at the Queen Rhyneara was more sane than her brothers and yes even her sister at least from the outside because Helena was way smarter than everyone in the series they just didn't know it, she had no hate but she had a lot of fear and that's because she could see stuff others couldn't, the Lady Witch at HH was quite smart to I must admit, she seems to have been trying to stop Deamon from doing what he wanted to do.
You know George says that you can't believe a lot of what the Maesters write or say because they seek to make their masters look good and others seem unworthy.
I always love when people bring up Walys Flowers, because he is by far the most likely person to be Haldon Halfmaester. Ned finds out about Jon/Aegon YG, sends for Walys to disappear and send Walys Ashara and his silver haired nephew while he takes Jon home. He would trust them with his sisters son.
You bring me such Targaryen joy!! Thank you!!
wait a sec..... I thought the "black oily stone that drinks the light" found on battle isle, asshai, the five forts, the seastone chair, the toad stone and yeen was noted to be slightly different from the the "fused black stone" that the Valyrians made in the freehold....
I also wondered how Otto became hand of the king. I read the fire and blood book several times and listened to it on Audible. Not once is a previous relationship mentioned. 🤔🤔
I still listen to your spooky westeros series.. the music and the sound of your voice help me fall asleep at night.. even tho ive watched these videos 19382 times now 😂😂😂
What I found interesting in the original series is that Sam found the cure for grayscale at the citadel. This meant that the maesters kept this knowledge secret and knowingly let people die.
In the series Sam and Gilly find the supposed passage of Lyanna and Rhaegar’s wedding in a Maester’s diary written at the bottom of a page in the same diary that he kept track of his bowel movements, To me that is GRRM hinting that this diary was “full of shti” . I won’t make my usual rant that there is no way R+L+J. The maester’s behavior also means that they are working in cahoots with the Children of the Forest and against mankind.
Awesome video! The Gray rats deff sus me out, gatekeeping all that knowledge., there could be sources about the long night up in that Citadel and no one would ever know
This makes a lot of sense. I did not expect Oldtown to be so interesting. Thank you for this. Keep it up!
i searched online and there nobody seems to see this little detail. uthor king of the hightower married a daughter of garth the green. maris. garth is suppposed to be the first king of the first men who let them into westeros. Does this not imply that uthor and the hightower where already present when the first men came ???
House Hightower the strongest, non lord paramount house. I suspect their origins can be traced back to the Empire of the Dawn. It seems to be an attraction between House Hightower and House Targaryen. Maybe they have the blood of ancient dragon riders in their veins. I wonder... if a Hightower can be bound to a dragon.
What if Alys is Tyanna of the Tower or Alys Harroway? It would maybevexplain why she's "lonely."
Hellooo Grey! We in South Africa love your videos. Keep up the Fantabulous work❤❤❤
❤❤❤ Thank you!
I always assumed the dragon was always deep within. The only reason we see it only with the sickly, premature, or stillborn is due to the inability to mask the magical shield with good health.
This place should have been Harrenhal'd back in the conquest. It's the Asshai/Qohor of Westeros although Aegon didn't quite comprehend that upon the conquest. Visenya was the only one with any sense about this place. No other part of Westeros put up such fierce resistance in more ways than one. Only the three eyed raven and CotF come close when it comes to such sinister machinations.
Is show otto being held captive by his brother/the maesters/the faith for failing the mission 😂
My favorite channel now ❤❤❤
(Every word you said makes sense! Even the honorable Maester of Winterfell told Bran that there's no magic.)
AHHH GREY!! When you threw the "Old Powers Waken, Shadows Stir" I cried!!!!😭💗
I love all of your videos, your hard work is much appreciated ❤
Wonderful job Grey Area! This video gives validity to the young Alicent Hightower being so intelligent in her mannerisms in season one, and being a bit disgruntled with Raynera when she was reading in the Godswood. Her family has taught her ancient knowledge, so the royal seemingly lacked appreciation for books in comparison to her upbringing.
Thank you, my Gray Queen. I really needed a fascinating video that I can dive into! I need it today, so thank you.
Thank you for always putting such quality content. 🖤👸🖤
King Viserys should have married the Velarion girl.
I feel like oldtown is responsible for holding back progress in westeros, so euron destroying won't be so bad.
Yeah… they are pretty bad.. Euron go offfff LOL
@@GrayArea pretty much my queen
facts. in millenia almost no technological advancement. oldtown is def keeping everyone dumb and faithful. i hope in the 2nd dance, dany or young griff or jon destroys the hightower and the maesters!!!!
I don't think the citadel is completely to blame. The government doesn't want people to be literate, The free cities are slightly more advanced, and the rest of the world is stagnant, too. I blame the irregular seasons. Them the gover
nment and them the faith.
The technology is stagnant globally.
@Wedontknoweachotherr also Asshai seem to be a capital o major city of the GEOTD that was magically nuked. They fact that we don't know what the long night was on the Far East only that the Five Forts held the line against the darkness. What was the Bloodstone emperor really doing? Are the Iron Islanders descendants from exiles from the GEOT? Something really bad happened in the past that screwed the world.
I remember i was searching for videos of Old Town during sesson 1 snd searching for the houses of this series / what happened to them or where were they during GoT. Especially because i thought Old Town didn't have a House. Very happy to get this from you! Cant wait if you do other houses

I find it sad how much hate Daemon gets when it's all down to Otto's manipulations and lies. People think Daemon's a bad guy, but we only think that because that's what people say about him, and they say that because that's what Otto has manipulated them into thinking.
Everything Daemon does in the books is perfectly normal for a Targ, a Westerosi noble, and a member of the royal family. The show had to go out of its way to show him doing things not in the books just to force us to see him as a bad guy.
Thank you, Grey Area! Very interesting video and great information about the Citadel and House Hightower
It sounds like in real life you would've been Team Lancaster my dear 😉
I'm so happy we got something so soon after the finale, hope we see more videos about black stone whereabouts!

This is a great video! I’m genuinely shocked you didn’t implicate Alicent & Otto in the grey rat conspiracy. I feel that way too but I didn’t know you did. And I thought the show was leaning that way too with the shady way they showed Otto and his elder brother discussing the succession.
How I wish you (GrayArea) would Direct a Game of thrones Series. It would be amazing. This piece is a master piece, blow my mind.
That was wonderfully explained and makes total sense. You are very insightful Gray.

Thank you!!!
@GrayArea oh you are so welcome! As soon as HotD was over, always RAN to CZcams next to hear your thoughts! Now I can just binge watch your videos 😁
They're already my fav house before HoTD. They got a dope castle.
A good assumption could be that like Dragonstone, Battle Island was an outpost built to protect the trading post in the Redwine. Probably given to some minor Valyrian family and the Hightowers were their bannermen like Valerions or Tyrells were. Would also explain how in the books I think it was Alicent or here mother was described to have Silver hair like a Targaryen. Probably led an uprising against their Lords and started building the tower on top of the old fort site; choosing to be Lords and Ladies in Westeros instead of Valyria. Remember the histories of Westeros are like the histories of Medieval Europe: shaky at best
I love your content and viewpoints! You're def my favorite GOT/HOTD content creator
