Go watch Journey to the Microcosmos, my favorite thing on CZcams: czcams.com/video/wS2mdmt4JPw/video.html Okay I am going to bed for real now. Thanks for the well wishes. -John
Get well soon! I think there are a lot of viruses going around everywhere at the moment I keep hearing about people getting ill (I got pneumonia myself, which is a bacteria and not a virus but still!)
Damn you John. Now I want to watch Journey to the Microcosmos, but I have already seen them all... Twice... This week. Please tell Hank to narrate more stuff. Like a bag in the wind.
I am currently on the journey of watching every single one of your videos in chronological order. I've gotten to March 19, 2007. That happens to be one of your videos, so this was good timing!
Hey! I'm currently on the same journey! I just finished 2007! (Although I've already watched everything after 2011 so I only have a few years worth to catch up on.)
I started watching vlogbrothers three months ago. I immediately told myself to watch all of your videos. Right now I'm done with that task and let me tell you: possibly the best three months of my life. So much good content. Also: It's weird to have to wait for more vlogbrothers content this is a new experience, it makes me appreciate them more I think. Thank you for everything!!! dftba
@@vlogbrothers it was a risk I was willing to take! (I've got to mention, I woke up with a runny nose today, but it's prob an allergy so I'm not blaming you yet 😂)

I spent my summer break doing an internship that isolated me from people in the mountains. Now I’m on a college campus and have been here for two days and already I have a virus. Proximity to others is sickening
I've also heard that viruses are promising weapons against things like cancer. Viruses are great at adapting to invade one specific type of cell, so loading them up with new DNA that can kill ONLY cancer cells would be an AMAZING step up from the no-cell-left-undestroyed treatment of chemotherapy and radiation.
First - Feel better soon John. Second, I agree with John 100% about Journey to the Micro Cosmos being my favorite CZcams channel. it's both fascinating and somewhat theraputic; I like the way Hank speaks in those videos- soothing. His energy can be so high when he talks on things he is fascinated with or excited by; knowing how exciting he finds the microbiological things, I wonder how hard it is for him to not just be amped to 11 lik, "Guys! this organism is made of glass! like its cell was is just glass! IT'S AMAZING! AAAAHHH!!!"
Vlogbrothers is just constant shower thoughts. Lol love the channel you guys. Now I cannot stop thinking about how we make up the world, but viruses make up us. Weird weird weird.
John you just TLDR'd a solid three weeks of lectures from my college micro course bout viruses so kudos, but I hadn't heard the placenta thing we didn't cover that. That's actually really cool.
Feel better! Related- viruses are actually a developing area of therapeutics. Phages, which are bacteria viruses, can be used against bacteria infections. We also use phage to do a lot of molecular biology in bacteria. :)
Haven't seen anything but the title yet, but I know this video is exactly what I need right now. Because it's a Tuesday and it's a John video and I always need a John video on a Tuesday. Convenient, that.
It strikes me that those lovely images you showed look like the eye floaters I see when I look at a bright light. Also, I want a shirt that says, "Life is Really, Really Weird." I'm off to sub to Journey To The MicroCosmos. Feel better, John!
Love your content! Just wanted to make one correction about the virus life cycle in case others are interested. Some viruses (like HIV and other retroviruses) incorporate viral nucleotide sequences into the host DNA, but this is not typical for most viruses. Most viruses have their genomes (RNA or DNA) replicated by host proteins in the nucleus, but do not incorporate this into host DNA. Here is a link to a great page about the viral life-cycle from Michigan State: msu.edu/course/mmg/569/lifecycles.htm
I like to think that aside from Hank falling in love with James Weiss' footage on Instagram and thinking "This would make a great CZcams channel!", he also thought "Maybe this will help my brother see there's beauty here, and not feel so phobic". Because I like love stories in all their forms.
When hank first announced the Journey to the Microcosmos channel I was afraid that it would be a bit unhealthy for John but I'm glad it turned out okay. I personally always liked the idea of millions of little creatures living inside of me, mainly because it makes me feel a tiny bit more significant in a world where it's hard to feel that sometimes.
I love love love the journey to the microcosmos channel! It is so fascinating and relaxing at the same time. I showed one video to my seven year old sister and she was in awe and immediately wanted to look through a microscope herself.
I also have a cold, and this was a nice thing to watch while having cold. I imagine it will be even better to watch when I don't have a cold, because I'll be able to appreciate viruses from a distance. Hope you feel better soon John

Watching this in 2020 gives it all new meaning.
