Wanted you to know that Katniss was never Gale's girl. They were friends who hunted together but nothing romantic happened between them until that kiss that Snow recorded. He didn't even express interest in that way until after her first games. I think he had feelings beforehand but hadn't acted on it yet. After the games she was overwhelmed with everything that happened and how unsafe she felt.
Peeta's "looking at me like I'm wounded" would have so much more impact if he had lost his leg like in the books.
peeta did lose his leg in the movies, during an interview ceasar asks him “how’s the new leg” but it wasn’t a big part of the movie only if u read the books you’d understand that line

“Why are they making Peeta look weak? He ain’t weak.” EXACTLY. Catching Fire is my fave out of the series, but I hate how they didn’t give justice on how strong, articulate, and charismatic Peeta is in the books.
Not making him lose his leg in the films too was a big mistake. His clumsiness can be easily explained because of his prosthetic leg, but in the films he just looks weak and clumsy for no reason and I hate it lmao

@@michelle1794 how does he look weak ? He's a 17 year old boy who works in a bakery. Why people expect him to be superman ? Katniss gets a lot of help from everyone in the movies. Nobody ever mention this. She's saved by Peeta (twice), by Rue and by Thresh just in the first movie. She gets medicine and foods from sponsors. Peeta doesn't get anything because he asked Haymitch to focus on Katniss.
@@ptitepeluche05 Precisely because he is a baker who has no experience in fighting, that's why he looks (and *is) weak. He's physically "weak" bc he's not as "strong" as the others, but his personal strenght is his intelligence, strategy, charisma and wit. That's why he's still useful even with strong fighters in the team like Katniss, Johanna or Finnick. And he also looks weak because they tried to adapt some scenes of the books where he is weakened because he's literally lacking a leg lol. So with both legs in the films he just looks clumsy for no reason. Count how many times he trips or falls or is left behind when they're running, then come back and tell me.
peeta explained in the book why the tributes acted this way around katniss (chaff kissing her, johanna getting naked, finnick flirting) bc they think katniss is so innocent (like when in first book she was washing peeta's clothes, and she turned around when he got naked even though he didn't mind). also agree with showing peeta as weak here!! it's kinda explained bc he covered katniss with his body when she fell running from the fog so he got more hurt. in the book he has prosthetic leg, but unfortunately creators gave up that plot in movies, like they didn't mention that it was peeta who killed brutus. also the first movie pissed me more with that, cause peeta was shown as weak in the training scenes while he was great in books, even careers said that he's good with knives.
Snow having Cinna beat to death right before katniss goes up is the most gangsta shit I’ve ever seen
Not only does haymitch have ptsd from his game but every year he has to be a mentor to the new tribute , that never came back
The relationship between Katniss and Gale is understandably confusing for those who haven’t read the books, since it’s never specified in the movies 🤓
When Katniss was young(er) her father taught her how to hunt (aka. why she is out there after moving to the victors village, to feel close to her dad) and after her father died, she became hunting-buddy with Gale, he taught her how to build traps and they collected food for both their families and to sell for other things. Katniss did have a little crush on Gale but since he was one or two years older than her, she never thought he’d see her as anything other than like a sister and after the 74th game, to kind of “explain” their closeness for the capitol and such, Gale was made out to be her cousin (aka. why his picture is in the locket)
So to summarise, Gale was never actually her boyfriend, they were actually never together. Gale sort of just realised he had some sort of feeling for her when he got jealous of Peeta 😂
You're right, Katniss is rich. They don't explain it in the movie, but it's in the books. She hunts for Gale's family because she's not allowed to give them her money. And he has young siblings. Gale's father died in the same explosion that killed Katniss' dad so they were kind of destitute after that.
You can find out more about President Snow in "Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes." It's about him when he was a teen. He doesn't become President then but... it'll explain some things. I hope the young actor is as interesting to watch as Donald Sutherland (this actor) is. He best be, because Auntie Viola Davis is actually in that one.
Oh wow, That’s such crucial detail to leave out in the film. I’ll have to read the books at some point. And yes will definitely be checking out the prequel film when it’s out
You should seen the worse, the 1st quarter quell they let the districts to choose their own tributes and the 2nd one they increase the number of boys and girls from 1 to 2. Haymitch was the Victor of the 2nd quarter quell.

In the book:
They covered the painting of Rue with a mat and Katniss never saw it. Peeta told them after what he had done.
They reference collecting the arrows after the fight with the monkeys.
When Katniss shot the arrow at the force field it wasn't straight up it was to the side towards a small patch of "weak spot" as Beetie had taught her before. Also, when it fell there wasn't a building behind it. The field fell and they were in an open area. When Peeta hit the field at the beginning of the games they got a glimpse of the terrain on the other side of the field when it flickered.

I LOVE that you said “you can’t just show up at my HOUSE” to Snow close to the beginning, that’s basically the whole idea of Katniss’s narration in the book at that moment as well. I love the way you empathize with the main characters
It's just perfect how you get the nuances and the next lines from the context of the scenes:
1. RUE TRIBUTE SCENE: "if you say I'm sorry" = Katniss says "I'm sorry"
2. NIGHT BEFORE ARENA: "What, no hug?" = *Katniss runs to hug haymitch

The acting in this series is seriously underrated. There’s been so many good performances
The black market is not how Gale ended up with his name in the reaping more times. That is a legitimate thing that the capitol offers to all district citizens that are of reaping age. They already get their names put in the reaping once per year, with it stacking each year, so when they're 12 it's in once, 13 it's in twice, etc. They can also ask for more food for themselves and for their family for a year, and add their name in for each family member. So since Gale has a mother and 2-3 siblings, he put his name in an additional 4-5 times each year to end up with it being in 42 times. Katniss' name was also in more times because she also took the deal, but wouldn't have allowed Prim to even if neither of them had been reaped/gone to the games
Katniss loves both Gale AND Peeta, but she's a teenager who's had to take care of her family since her father died. Her mother stopped functioning when that happened, so her hunting is what feeds the family. It's made clear in the books that Katniss is perplexed by the way Gale and Peeta seem to feel about her, because she doesn't have thoughts about romance, she's laser focused on making sure they all survive. I wish it had been made more clear in the films that, in the first two books/movies, she's not trying to decide between them, she just refuses to think about romance, because it complicates everything.

The beginning of the movie was 6 months after the last movie/games. Then of course the reaping is the full year mark
She still hunts after getting money because gale still needs to hunt to feed his family. He refused to take charity from her. Read the books, they explain so much.

Here's a bit of info I can remember from the books, spoiler free!
The reason Gale's name in was because he took Tesserae, a ration of oil, grain and other things, barely enough for one person. You could put your name in to get more for every member of your family, if eligible (12-18 years). That's how his name was in 42 times by his last year (18), he had to provide for his siblings and mother. He didn't start working in the mines until he was 19, after the 74th games.
The Quarter Quells are historically different each time, the first (25th year) the tributes were voted on by their district, the second (50th, Haymitch's game) was double the amount of tributes and the third was from the existing pool of Victors.
One of the reasons Johanna is so outspoken/angry, is because she has no one left for the Capitol to use against her, they killed them all.
A story about the elevator scene:
Jena Malone had some trouble getting the timing down so that she would be unclothed for the opening of the elevator and on one take, it went one floor too many and the door opened to a regular person, I can't remember if it was a hotel employee or a guest, and there she was in all her glory. Sne stayed in character and strolled right by him. 😂

The Rue Eulogy is truly heart breaking
Movie doesn't explain it well she is Ritchie but not allowed to give her money or food to the others in the district she hunts for gale and the black market and other poor families so they don't starve and stop as many children having ro put in their names multiple times for extra food. She was basically helping the district the only way she knew how.

The next movie is a little slower cause it's a lot of set up for Mocking Jay part 2 but I am personally a big fan of the next movie even though it is a little slower, you really get to see a lot of the trauma from the games and dive deeper into the history and inner workings of this world! I really enjoy the next movie despite people feeling like it's not as action packed and I am excited to watch your reaction.
