  • This is Dan's beast 1983 HOLDEN VH COMMODORE.
Worked 202 engine with a true Aussie sound. it's got a fully balanced bottom end, flat top pistons, a yellow Terra stage free head, crow xu1 spec camp, a Holly 350 on a custom intake manifold and a set of Genie extractors
behind the motor I've got a fully rebuilt chromatics chromatic gearbox which is fully manualized it's got an ste 3000 RPM torque converter in it
inside the car I tried to keep everything fairly stock looking if you looked in through this car there wouldn't be anything you notice that it'd be out of the ordinary unless you really know what you were looking at.

My brother had my grandfathers old 1983 model Holden VH Commodore towed down from Mullumbimby in New South Wales to the Newcastle area where we live by my dad after his funeral in 2017 because he said that my brother could have it after he died.
It's a metallic green colour & it does need a lot of work done to it,the odometer stopped at 329,000 kilometres, the rear brakes don't work, the rear main oil seal is leaking very badly & the doors while they have been replaced on the passenger side due to rust they have rust in them now & there's a bit of rust in the car up on the rear.
My grandparents who are both deceased now got a mechanic & body shop at Murwillumbah to replace the doors, cut the rust out of the body, respray parts of the car & replace the clutch,it still has the original 173 cubic inch blue six fitted although it leaks oil as I mentioned & it has had its EGR valve pipes cut off then silver soldered at the cylinder head & an EGR valve block off plate has been fitted because their local mechanic couldn't find another EGR valve for it, the hoses & vacuum switches are either all broken or missing,it has had the struts, shock absorbers - springs replaced in it as well.
I am not sure if it will pass a Blue slip inspection without all of that anti pollution control gear fitted but yours seems to have been passed without it.
It's just at Newcastle someone who I went to school with was driving right through Kooragang island which was where all of the people in the Newcastle area who drag raced their cars was getting pulled over by the cops 30 years ago because they had a big crackdown on drag racing.
Well,he was driving a Ford Escort which was standard but it had no anti pollution gear fitted & he was made to put it over the pits where the engineers went through it,he was issued a defect notice for not having that emission control gear installed in the car.
He wasn't even drag racing,he just happened to be passing through.
The police also pulled over a VH Commodore because it looked nice,it had tinted windows !

Holy crap this brings back memories, had a 82 vh in red, 202 blue yella terra head, camed, extractors, holly carb, and duel fuel with sprint gas set up/stainless tank, toyota 5 speed manual and a 2.5 inch exhaust, vs statesman mags.. GOD i miss that car...... wish id never sold it. sounded just like yours when opened up. imo the vh has got to be the best looking commodore. thanks for the vid and the memories....... CHEERS.

My dad had a VH when we were growing up. A Vacationer, too, but blue. Brings back a lot of memories looking at that interior. Excellent job on this. Hold on to it. They’re appreciating really quickly.

You don't see many VH's around anymore, let alone one that looks pretty stock like this. Which is always nice to see, though this one's got a bit more kick to it. So a nice little sleeper it is too, do wonder how it is doing nowadays & hopefully still looking stock like this, with it being pretty close to 3 years since this video was done.
