  • Are you ready to learn something new? In this beginner-friendly tutorial for Unreal Engine 5, I'll show you how to create a realistic "polarized" iridescent glass material using Substrate Materials.
It appears on headlights and glass when you take a photo of a car using a polarized filter on the camera.
    Let's get started!
    00:00:00 intro
    00:01:06 vector noise
    00:02:27 substrate thin film
00:03:05 substrate to transmittance to mean free path
    00:03:43 thanks for watching!

If your material looks different (white/silver) after about 01:15, dont panic. Follow all the steps, and once you hit "apply" at the end your outcome should match.
    I hit apply early.
