Preparing For Kidding

To prepare for kidding this year we decided to split our yearling nannies from our older nannies to kid out. We talk through our thought process on why we did this instead of leaving everything in one herd. We also show you the sorting process with our sort gate.

I’m curious about what percentage you see of does that have aborted and what you believe caused it? We are about to begin kidding and we are experiencing some issues with abortion for the first time.

We are in the neighborhood of 4%, the vast majority were yearlings. I believe the cause is some of that is inevitable with yearlings as well as my poorer pasture conditions this year brought on by a dry fall, winter, and now early spring.

@@benhabig5346 that is understandable. Our percentage was about 18%. I end up getting some blood drawn on a few does to see what is going on.
