Procedural law and substantive law are two essential branches of law that work together to ensure that justice is served.
Substantive law establishes the rights and obligations of individuals and entities. It defines what conduct is legal or illegal, and what remedies are available to those who have been wronged. For example, substantive law would define what constitutes a breach of contract, and what damages a party may be entitled to if they are the victim of a breach.
Procedural law sets out the rules and procedures for how legal disputes are resolved. It governs how cases are brought to court, how evidence is presented, and how judges make decisions. For example, procedural law would specify the deadlines for filing a lawsuit, the types of evidence that are admissible in court, and the standard of proof that must be met in order to win a case.
The two branches of law are closely intertwined. Procedural law cannot exist without substantive law, because there would be no disputes to resolve if there were no rights or obligations to be enforced. Similarly, substantive law cannot be effectively enforced without procedural law, because there would be no way to ensure that cases are decided fairly and justly.
For example, imagine that a person is injured in a car accident. The substantive law would define who is liable for the accident and what damages the injured person is entitled to. However, the procedural law would govern how the injured person can file a lawsuit, what evidence they need to present, and how the judge will decide the case.
In this way, procedural law and substantive law work together to ensure that justice is served. Procedural law ensures that legal disputes are resolved fairly and efficiently, while substantive law ensures that the rights and obligations of individuals and entities are protected.
Here are some other examples of the relationship between procedural law and substantive law:
The procedural law of a criminal trial ensures that the accused person has a fair trial, while the substantive law of criminal law defines the crimes that are punishable by the state.
The procedural law of a civil lawsuit ensures that both parties have an opportunity to present their case, while the substantive law of civil law defines the rights and obligations of the parties involved.
The procedural law of a contract dispute ensures that the parties' rights are protected, while the substantive law of contracts defines the terms of the contract and the remedies available to the parties if the contract is breached.
The relationship between procedural law and substantive law is complex and constantly evolving. However, the two branches of law work together to ensure that justice is served in all legal disputes.

Admission Rules for B.A.LL.B.
The admission of a five year B.A.LL.B. programme opens generally with other bachelor programmes of the Tribhuvan University. Students seeking admission to this programme can apply while the Faculty announces for admission. Applicants seeking admission, except foreigners, should face entrance exam to be conducted by the office of the Dean, Faculty of Law, TU. Entrance exam shall be taken on the basis of subjective and objective test. The language of entrance exam is either English or Nepali. The general outline for entrance exam is given below.
